Chapter 139 Nemesis

Inside the Zhenxiulou restaurant.

Seeing the scholar suddenly walk in, the shopkeeper felt numb, devoid of the joy of finally welcoming a customer; he felt utterly doomed.

He was just a shopkeeper; he wasn't rich or powerful, but he lived a comfortable life and had no worries about food or drink.

Not long ago, a gentleman came to the capital. Although he was born out of wedlock, he was still quite favored at home. It was thought that he could lead Zhenxiulou to glory.

Maybe when we return to the capital, we can take him with us and let him see the sights of the capital. If we're lucky, he might even make a name for himself in the capital.

But things are much better now.

The master died here, and Zhenxiulou became a notorious, unscrupulous restaurant despised by everyone.

Putting aside the revenue issue, regardless of how much they've been suppressed by the neighboring Shiwei Restaurant.

With Kang An's death, what kind of trouble will he get into when the news reaches the capital?

The shopkeeper didn't want to open the door at all; he just wanted to close it and have some peace and quiet.

"We're closed now, please leave, sir..."

Before he could finish speaking, a sharp, thin dagger was already pressed against his throat.

The young man, who looked like a scholar, had a gentle smile on his face, but the words he spoke sent a chill down the spine of the shopkeeper.

He asked, "How did Kang An die?"

"I...I...I don't know..."

The shopkeeper felt a chill run down his spine, then another, and finally yet another.

He was wrong. He shouldn't have become the manager of Zhenxiu Restaurant in the first place just to prove that he was better than Manager Liang next door.

"Take me to Kang'an's residence."

The dagger grazed the shopkeeper's ear, leaving a trail of red blood moments later.

"If you obey, you will be spared physical pain; if you disobey, there are plenty of ways to kill you."

The man sheathed his dagger, his face gentle and refined, but in the shopkeeper's eyes, he looked exactly like a demon seeking death.

The shopkeeper could only nod to indicate that he understood.

He had only gone a short distance when someone called out to him.

"Oh, Manager Cao isn't opening the door? Going home?"

A familiar voice came from next door. Manager Cao looked up and saw Manager Liang, his mortal enemy.

The two looked at each other.

Manager Liang frowned slightly. He felt that there was something wrong with Old Cao.

The sharp tip of the knife pressed against Manager Cao's waist, and Manager Cao felt another numbness in his back. He said to Manager Liang, "Is it any of your business?"

After saying that, he turned and left.

Manager Liang stood there, watching Manager Cao turn and leave, and felt that something was wrong.

He had been fighting with Manager Cao for so many years, since they were children in the village. When Cao became the manager of Shiwei Restaurant, this guy was desperate to become the manager of Zhenxiu Restaurant.

It's normal to not like each other, but we all know each other well.

Just now, Old Cao seemed a little flustered?

His gaze fell on the young scholar who had just brushed past Manager Cao.

These two...

I probably don't know them.

They didn't talk to each other, and they weren't even walking together.

But if you don't know them, it always feels a bit strange.

Manager Liang felt something was off and was about to chase after him to see what was going on when he heard the voice of the shop assistant behind him.

"Shopkeeper, someone's causing trouble in the shop!"

Manager Liang glanced in the direction Manager Cao had left.

He even thought there was something wrong with it.

There were people causing trouble in this restaurant. If it wasn't Zhenxiulou that did it, then who was?

He wondered why Old Cao had panicked earlier! Turns out, someone had caused trouble for him, and he was feeling guilty!

He actually thought there was something wrong!

"Let's go back and take a look!"

Manager Liang turned around and quickly followed the waiter back to Shiwei Restaurant.
