Chapter 96 The Unattainable Inside Story
Chen Muyun smiled at Lu Huainan and said, "Let's continue looking around. It seems that there aren't many people here today, so we can have a quiet visit."
Lu Huainan followed behind Shen Muyun, with his hands in his pockets, and walked forward with him. The basement was a little dark, and the lights were dim. There were some unused desks and some miscellaneous items inside.
Chen Muyun touched the tabletop. There were no clues worth noting. The light flickered, which was a bit creepy.
"Let's go Huainan, let's go somewhere else, not just here."
A thick layer of dust had accumulated, and it looked like no one had been here for a long time.
Lu Huainan looked around and nodded, agreeing with Shen Muyun's statement.
When I came out of the basement, it started to drizzle, and the rain seemed to be getting heavier, even though the weather was pretty good just now.
Lu Huainan immediately opened the umbrella and shielded Shen Muyun. "Brother Yun, you're not feeling well. You can't get wet in the rain. Why don't we go back?"
Shen Muyun looked at the orphanage, and there were still many doubts in his mind that had not been resolved. He wanted to solve them all at once so that he could solve them once and for all.
"Take another turn, it's okay, and I feel safe with you by my side."
Lu Huainan paused, looked at Shen Muyun and smiled, "Well, okay, where is the next place?"
Shen Muyun pointed to the archives room, "There."
The archive room has been renovated and is brighter and safer, with firewalls all around. However, many bookshelves are empty according to their age, probably because the damaged books cannot be sorted out.
Shen Muyun casually walked to a row of bookshelves. On them were their dates of birth, but they were empty. It seemed that it would be very troublesome to find the previous files.
He continued walking inside. All the books were from recent years, and there were also records of adopted children. He casually flipped through a few pages, but didn't find anything useful, so he gave up.
"Brother Yun, the archives here have been completely renovated. I should have taken a closer look at them for the first time..."
Shen Muyun turned and smiled at Lu Huainan, "It's okay, we came here mainly to see the animals, not for the orphanage."
"Shen's also has plans to invest in the construction of an orphanage. This is what my father wanted."
Lu Huainan pursed his lips and smiled, "Doesn't that mean we're related again? That's perfect."
"Mr. Shen, Mr. Lu, so you are here."
The director of the orphanage happened to come over and said, "I've been looking for you for a long time. Those kids all want to play with you."
Shen Muyun held Lu Huainan's hand and said, "Did you hear that? They all want to play with us."
"Dean, where are the children?"
"In the small animal breeding room, they adopted a rabbit from over there and are happily observing it."
Shen Muyun took Lu Huainan's hand and walked forward.
"Brother Yun, how come you are so familiar with this place? We have obviously never been there before. I was just thinking of asking the dean to lead the way."
Shen Muyun turned his head and looked into Lu Huainan's eyes. "Actually, I don't know either. I just have a hunch that it should be over there."
"Brother Yun, have you been here many times?"
"No, my brother usually likes to come here for inspections, but he's been busy with overseas projects lately, so he doesn't come here often."
Shen Muyun gently pushed open the door of the breeding room. To their surprise, there was no one here, only the little rabbit staying obediently in the small cage. The child seemed to have disappeared in an instant.
"Brother Yun, look, these rabbits are really cute."
"Well, yes, it's very cute. The dean said they only adopted one, so isn't this a flock?"
The director's voice came from behind, "These children adopt one each time, so now there is a group like this, including the orange cat in the office over there. It was also adopted by them. When it first came here, it was very skinny, but now it's different. It's become a little pig."
Shen Muyun pinched the ear of one of the rabbits and looked into its eyes. Shen Muyun's appearance was reflected in its scarlet pupils.
"Huainan, do you think these rabbits can understand what we are saying?"
Lu Huainan shook his head. "It shouldn't be possible. After all, they are just small animals. How can they have such high IQs?"
"Big brother, of course not. The little rabbit is very smart. You just need to pull its tail."
Lu Huainan saw a little boy coming over with vegetable leaves in his hands, as if he was going to feed the little rabbit.
He reached out and gently touched the rabbit's tail. The little rabbit looked at him arrogantly, then kicked his arm hard.
"Big brother, you are too strong. The little rabbit feels pain and it will be like this. You have to touch it like this."
The little boy gently touched the rabbit's tail. The little rabbit didn't resist at all and ate the leaves happily.
But just as Lu Huainan was about to take action, the rabbit looked at him, motionless, as if it sensed him.
"Huainan, it looks like this rabbit doesn't like you very much."
"Big brother, how could that be? Small animals really like humans. As long as you don't harm them and give them food and water, they'll be lazy all day long. Maybe it's just your smell that makes them feel strange."
The dean on the side listened to them quietly, reached out and took a piece of vegetable leaf, put it to the little rabbit's mouth, and it suddenly stopped eating.
The little boy took a carrot from the basket in his hand and said, "Eat it, eat it. I know you don't like eating leaves."
Shen Muyun took Lu Huainan's hand and said, "Huainan, I saw a kitten over there. Do you want to go over and take a look?"
Lu Huainan nodded in understanding and followed Shen Muyun over.
"Have you noticed that the dean seems to be deliberately taking us to see what we want to see, and hiding all the discordant things?"
Lu Huainan followed Shen Muyun, thinking, "Didn't you say that all the children were here? After looking for a long time, there is only that little boy here."
"So, there's definitely something wrong with this boy, but we don't know about it. And he's so young. Logically, it should be written in the file, but we've only seen this child's file."
"Maybe it's because there are too many files and we haven't looked through them all."
Shen Muyun pinched Lu Huainan's cheek and said, "There are only about forty or fifty people in total. How could they not have noticed? This only means that something is wrong with the dean. We should be more careful."
Lu Huainan nodded, and the rain outside got heavier.
They stood at the door and wanted to leave, but they saw a little girl taking shelter from the rain.
Lu Huainan motioned Shen Muyun to go over and take a look.
"Little boy, you don't have an umbrella with you. How about I take you there?"
Lu Huainan had originally brought an extra umbrella with him just in case, and it came in handy.
"Big brother, didn't you go to see the animals? Why are you here?"
"Have you finished reading it, little sister? Aren't you all over there? Why is there only one little boy left?"
The girl lowered her head and remained silent.
"Tell me, brother will keep it a secret for you, okay?"
Shen Muyun's voice was so gentle that Lu Huainan felt a little jealous. This guy must have done it on purpose.
"Then let's make a pinky promise!"
The little girl stretched out her finger and made a pinky promise with Shen Muyun.
"We'll make a promise and stick together for a hundred years. If you do, you'll be a pighead!"
The girl's thumb touched Shen Muyun's.
"Okay, I believe you."
The three of them walked in the rain. The girl looked around and saw that there was no one around, so she continued.
"Actually, the dean always likes to have the best children appear in front of tourists."
"What does this mean, little sister?"
"That's all intentional, including for adopted children. Only those children that the director likes have a chance. People like us who are ordinary and quiet usually don't even have this opportunity. For example, if we like a parent, the director won't let us meet them. She will just pick the child she likes and hand it over to them."
Shen Muyun was stunned. If that were the case, Shen Liuyun should have followed this process at the beginning. This would also prove from the side that Shen Liuyun was indeed very smart since he was a child.
"Will the uncles and aunts be dissatisfied and ask for a new one?"
"Yes, of course there are. But those who are sent there are the ones that the dean likes. They are all very outstanding. As for ordinary children, they will just stay here for their whole lives. It's actually nothing. It would be very troublesome if they had parents."
Shen Muyun was a little confused, "Why?"
"It's very simple. Some children aren't as well behaved as they appear. They're all pretending. Just like the boy they adopted last month. I know that child. He only acts nice in front of the dean, but he's not good to us."
A child who was only seven or eight years old actually said such words, which was beyond Shen Muyun's cognition.
"Really?"
"Even though they're back now, the dean is still biased and always believes that there will be a way to send them out in the end. They are all her favorite students."
"How old are you, little girl?"
"Do you want to hear whether it's true or false?"
"Of course it's true."
The little girl smiled and said, "Actually, I'm already 20 years old. It's just a rare disease that makes me always look like I'm seven or eight. It's actually quite good this way. I'm just pretending. I can be free and at ease. This dean came here about two years ago. The previous dean was a relative of the current one, so they know me very well."
Shen Muyun already thought that this was a child, but he actually saw the real version, where the adults were children.
"Then why don't you go outside and take a look?"
"I've seen it, but it's very troublesome. I have an ID card, so every time people see my age and then look at me, they always feel something is wrong. Every time I can prove it, it makes me look bad. I am indeed an orphan, and coming to the orphanage also meets all the procedures, so I just stay here."
