Chapter 99 Chapter 99 Unreliable System
Standing at the door of the orphanage, Shen Muyun looked inside and felt that everything would indeed happen and end here, which was not a surprise.
"You guys are here again, are you planning an investment project here recently?"
Lu Huainan smiled and said, "Dean, we came here to see you. We hope to know something about what happened back then."
The dean's face was noticeably darker, but he couldn't get angry any more.
"What do you mean? What happened back then? I don't understand!"
Lu Huainan smiled at the dean. "That is, regarding Shen Liuyun's matter, and the matter of us children, aren't you involved? And those files have completely disrupted our thinking. What we thought was the truth is actually all an illusion, isn't it?"
The dean's face looked even worse.
"Director, please tell me what happened in this orphanage. Or should I say, are there many secrets here?"
The dean tugged at his clothes and said, "I don't know what you are talking about. Besides, it's lunch time now, and I have to watch the kitchen."
When Lu Huainan saw the dean preparing to leave, he immediately grabbed her arm.
"Dean, running away isn't a good option. So, we must say what needs to be said. There are things that shouldn't be concealed. Don't you know that the young master of the Zhou family committed suicide?"
The dean was stunned and stood there blankly, not saying a word for a long time.
"I better tell you."
These few short words gave Shen Muyun hope. He didn't expect the dean to agree so readily.
"Actually, this orphanage wasn't an orphanage before. It was more like a nursery. Many of the children were from wealthy families. Back then, our nannies would take care of all the children. It was actually a new concept of childcare, allowing them to come into contact with outsiders. That's when the whole thing started."
Shen Muyun recalled his dream, and that inexplicable feeling rose up again. Yes, it was that strange thought that seemed to invade his brain all the time.
"That's how your parents sent you all here. You were young at the time, so you probably thought this was an orphanage. After all, you were only two or three years old, so it's normal to remember it wrongly. Every time I took the children home, some would cry and make a fuss, saying they were adopted. That's when I started to think the same way."
Lu Huainan nodded. Sure enough, their memories were biased. No wonder things didn't match up.
"It's not much. After you were sent away, this place became a real orphanage. We receive abandoned children almost every day. Some come on their own. I hope they can find a good home."
"What you mean by a good destination is to select a group of children who are in line with your wishes, or rather, meet your expectations, and may be helpful to you, or, in other words, your own children?"
A hint of surprise flashed across the dean's eyes, but it disappeared in an instant.
"I don't understand what you are saying."
"You don't have to play dumb. We have received much more information than you thought, and you probably don't want to be arrested right now."
The dean breathed a sigh of relief.
"You still know too much. I have to say, I didn't expect you to suspect me. However, those children really have nothing to do with me. All I want is money. Money can buy everything. Don't you know that?"
"You shouldn't let them suffer like this just for the sake of money!"
"What do you know? As long as one can enter the circle of rich people, they are successful. And what they eat, wear and use will suddenly be different. What's the point of being in dire straits? They are obviously enjoying themselves, but they refuse to admit it."
Lu Huainan smiled and said, "Such a great benefit, what about your child? Why don't you give it a try?"
"Mr. Lu, you're not right. I don't have any children. I've always been single."
Lu Huainan directly took out a paternity test report, on which were clearly written the names of two people, who happened to be the child they met that day.
"Tell me, what does this mean? You're still trying to make excuses."
"Whatever you say is what it is. What can I say? You've all decided that I will send my child away. So what else do I have to explain?"
"Dean, what about the Lu and Shen families? What's going on?"
"It's nothing. You are the bloodline of the Lu and Shen families. Only Shen Liuyun is not. His parents died in a car accident, and he is older, so he should remember it more clearly."
This is basically consistent with Shen Muyun's guess that Lu Huainan knew him when he was a child.
"What happened to my brother?"
"The previous file said he was in a car accident when he was two or three years old. Later, they changed it to say his parents were in a car accident while driving, leaving him completely orphaned. That's the second version you saw. You were all very young at the time, so how could you remember so much?"
"Then what?"
"Then, when the Shen couple came to the orphanage, they mistakenly recognized Shen Liuyun as their only son. They kept saying that we took good care of him. In the end, they found out that he wasn't their only son, but they had already developed feelings for him, so they adopted him. As for Shen Muyun, he was indeed from another province. To put it bluntly, he was an illegitimate child."
Shen Muyun was slightly stunned, but quickly recovered, "What else?"
"It's nothing. The secret of Tongxin Orphanage was nothing in the first place. It's you who have been brooding over it. You shouldn't be so obsessed with it."
Shen Muyun smiled and said, "I don't think this is a big problem, let's just leave it at that."
Shen Muyun grabbed Lu Huainan's hand as if to run away. After hearing the truth of the matter with his own ears, the discomfort and unhappiness in his heart instantly filled his mind.
"Huainan, you saw me when you were a child, right? And do you think my personality has changed?"
Lu Huainan paused slightly, then looked up at Shen Muyun, “Well, Brother Yun, doesn’t that mean everyone will change? It’s just that your personality is different from before, isn’t that normal?”
Shen Muyun smiled and said, “Do you have any guesses, or do you know everything about the things around me?”
Lu Huainan's hand, which was about to open the car door, stopped in mid-air.
"Brother Yun, you think too much. How could I? I just simply like you. Besides, how can those vague memories from childhood be considered as knowing each other? We only met once. We were only two or three years old at that time. Who could know what was going on?"
Shen Muyun nodded and sat in the passenger seat.
"Didn't we take a taxi here? Why is your car here?"
"I asked my secretary to drive it here."
"Huainan, you probably know more than me."
"Well, maybe a little more. But, Brother Yun, you must trust me. I will never hurt you."
Shen Muyun nodded, closing his eyes and recalling what had just happened.
Suddenly, the system's voice rang in my ears.
"Master Host, you are getting closer and closer to the truth. You must keep working hard!"
Shen Muyun muttered silently in his heart, "System, can't you really tell me who the person from the Space-Time Administration is?"
"Of course not. That's the rule of the game. You always have a chance anyway."
"When will that be? Do I have to wait until I run out of time to find out?"
"This is a little secret, host. You have to hold on for a while. It will be over soon."
Shen Muyun opened his eyes and saw Lu Huainan driving the car seriously. An idea suddenly appeared in his mind, but it disappeared in a flash.
Lu Huainan turned his head and looked at Chen Muyun, "Brother Yun, you didn't dream just a moment ago, did you? You're still mumbling to yourself."
Shen Muyun immediately covered her mouth. Wasn’t it that they were talking and Lu Huainan couldn’t hear them? What was going on?
"Just now you were muttering about the truth or something. Did the orphanage incident make you have bad thoughts?"
"No, Huainan, if you have anything to say, you must not hide it from me."
"Well, Brother Yun, don't worry."
Lu Huainan parked the car in the underground garage, and the two of them took the elevator directly back home.
"I bought this place a few years ago. The scenery here is nice. It's especially good for stargazing in the summer, but it's not so good in this season."
Shen Muyun nodded, "Well, maybe that's true."
"Brother Yun, are you in a bad mood?"
Shen Muyun shook his head. "Not really. It's just a strange feeling. I don't know why I feel uncomfortable."
"Really, Brother Yun? If there's anything that makes you unhappy, you must tell me."
Chen Muyun waved towards Lu Huainan, "Nothing, I'm a little hot, I want to rest first."
Lu Huainan did not stop Shen Muyun and told him the layout of the room. Shen Muyun went straight into the room.
"System, is your immediate superior Lu Huainan?"
"How is that possible? He is an original character in the book. Host, you are not going to have a fever and your brain will be damaged!"
Shen Muyun directly pinched the system's wings and said, "If you can speak, say a few more words. If you really can't, then don't say anything. It's really annoying."
"Master Host, the one from the Spacetime Administration is amazing. Don't overthink it. Many things are not what you think."
Shen Muyun nodded, "System, if I clear the level, will I have a chance to meet that person?"
The system flapped its wings and flew into the sky. "Maybe there's a chance. To be honest, I'm not too sure. After all, I've never seen his true face. He always issues tasks with his back to me."
Shen Muyun's face was covered with black lines. This was outrageous. How could he encounter such an unreliable system?
