Chapter 1 Hellish Start

"Moon Lady, Er Ya seems... seems to have stopped breathing..."

"How could this be! Er Ya! My daughter!"

The next second, I heard a loud wail.

At that moment, the person on the bed suddenly opened their eyes.

The room fell silent instantly.

Song Ning looked at the person in front of the bed, her head throbbing. The woman in front of her looked to be only in her thirties. What did she call her just now?

"Er Ya, Er Ya, you're awake!"

She was on the verge of spitting out a mouthful of blood.

"Er Ya, are you alright?"

The two people in front of her looked to be in their thirties. Was it appropriate for them to call her daughter?

Suddenly, a flood of memories that didn't belong to her rushed into her mind.

Song Ning froze.

Are you kidding me? She's a successful modern urban woman, and now she's dressed up as a lovesick fool?!

The owner of this body has been infatuated with Zhou Ling'an, the youngest son of the village chief, since childhood. However, Zhou Ling'an looks down on her and rejects her repeatedly, but Er Ya just keeps pestering her.

Now that Zhou Ling'an has passed the imperial examination and become a scholar, his status is even more different. Why would he take a fancy to a poor girl like the original owner who has nothing?

Because of Zhou Ling'an, the original owner had a lot of unpleasantness with her family. She blamed her family for Zhou Ling'an's disapproval of her, and complained all sorts of things at home, such as why her parents didn't give birth to her in a good family, why they weren't rich, and if they were, they would be a good match.

But they never considered whether they were worthy of it.

In order to marry Zhou Ling'an, she did not hesitate to use her own reputation to force him to commit a crime.

The original owner wanted to let everyone see her disheveled with Zhou Ling'an in public, so as to force Zhou Ling'an to marry her. However, Zhou Ling'an had already seen through her intentions and did not give her a chance to get close. She was still thinking of chasing after him, but she accidentally fell and broke her head.

The key point is that Er Ya is only 12 years old! When she was twelve, she was still playing in the mud, and Er Ya is already thinking about her life's important matters!

Er Ya's reputation was already terrible before, and now she's broken her head trying to cling to Zhou Ling'an. Who knows how people will be mocking her behind her back.

Now, she has truly become the biggest laughing stock in the village. Everyone in the village is saying that she is a shameless young woman who insisted on giving herself away, and that she deserves what happened.

Song Ning closed her eyes, not wanting to face any of this.

"Er Ya, Er Ya, wake up! Don't scare your mother!" The woman who called her daughter thought she had fainted again and shook her head desperately.

Song Ning had a real headache and had no choice but to open her eyes.

"Er Ya, Er Ya, you're alright!" Liu Yuelan cried tears of joy.

Song Ning sighed, then glanced around the entire house. It was a low mud wall with a few planks stacked on top of it, just a thatched hut with a few pieces of wood on a frame and a thatched roof, letting in drafts from all sides.

The two people in front of me were wearing tattered, patched clothes, and were emaciated, looking just like the refugees on TV.

The original owner of this family only had one daughter, whom Song Dahai and Liu Yuelan doted on. As a result, any good things they had could never be kept. Once they entered the original owner's hands, they would immediately be given to Zhou Ling'an.

Previously, the original owner's father had fallen and injured his leg while climbing the mountain, and it hadn't healed. He finally managed to borrow one or two taels of silver from a relative, hoping to go to town to see a doctor.

However, Er Ya stole it and used it to buy gifts for Zhou Ling'an. But Zhou Ling'an didn't like it at all, and Song Dahai's treatment was delayed, leaving him with a limp.

Song Ning sighed, "Song Er Ya's glorious deeds are countless, simply too numerous to count."

She has not been kicked out of the house to this day; this family is truly kind.

"I'm thirsty," Song Ning said in a hoarse voice.

"Hey, Mom will get you some water right away."

When Liu Yuelan saw that her daughter had spoken, she quickly brought over a bowl of water.

I took the bowl and stared at it for a while. There were five chips on the bowl. If there had been any more water, it would have leaked.

But with her throat sore, she couldn't worry about anything else.

After gulping down a bowl of water, Song Ning felt that even her breathing became much easier.

Liu Yuelan was delighted: "Er Ya has finally woken up, I'll go cook now."

Although it's called cooking, there's actually not much to eat at home.

With just a handful of wild vegetables picked from the mountain, boiled in water, one could have a meal and not starve.

Song Ning looked at the bowl in front of her; it was dark and smelled terrible.

Just looking at it makes me want to vomit.

After hesitating for a long time, with her stomach constantly protesting, Song Ning finally picked up the bowl, took a sip of the dark soup, and almost burst into tears.

It tastes absolutely awful...

The soup also contained unknown wild vegetable stalks, which were so sore and hard to swallow.

Song Ning forced herself not to spit it out and swallowed it down.

He only managed a few bites before he couldn't swallow any more. He glanced up and saw Song Dahai and Liu Yuelan sitting to the side, with nothing to eat.

Song Ning was taken aback. What she was disgusted with was their daily staple food for survival.

She put down her chopsticks and said softly, "I'm full." Then she pushed her bowl forward.

Usually at times like this, the original owner would immediately lose her temper and start cursing, and the couple would watch her cautiously.

With a slight twitch at the corner of her mouth, Song Ning sighed helplessly. Oh well, her image couldn't be changed overnight.

Standing up, Song Ning walked outside and said casually, "I'm going for a walk."

I went straight out of the yard and only then did I see what kind of house this was.

She now lives in the thatched hut in the middle, which also serves as the kitchen. There are two other rooms on either side; one is used to store miscellaneous items, and the other is where Song Dahai and his wife sleep.

When the wind blew, the thatched roof swayed precariously, and it looked like it was about to collapse.
