Xie Linzhou stared at Song Ning for a long time before finally asking, "You...you're awake?"
Song Ning came to her senses and slowly sat up.
There was only one lamp lit in the room, placed on the bedside table. It was pitch black outside. Xie Linzhou sat beside her, staring at her blankly.
What's going on?
She glanced around the room; it was the same room where she had washed clothes during the day.
Why is she lying here? What was she doing before?
Oh right, she poured water all over Xie Linzhou and then used a rag to wipe him off. And then what?
Song Ning knew nothing about it.
Judging from her appearance, she must have fainted.
She glanced around, wondering if Xie Linzhou had ambushed her.
"Um... what's wrong with me?"
Seeing that Song Ning had spoken, Xie Linzhou quickly stepped forward to check the situation.
Are you alright?
Song Ning didn't feel any discomfort, so she nodded and said, "I should be fine now."
Xie Linzhou's thought at that moment was, "Why didn't you say those words earlier?"
Given how much Song Ning liked him, she would have been awake long ago.
Xie Linzhou breathed a sigh of relief; it was good that nothing had happened.
Then Xie Linzhou became awkward: "Did you hear what I just said?"
Song Ning raised an eyebrow slightly: "What did you say?"
Could he be referring to what he just said? Were those words meant for her?
Is that disgusting?
Xie Linzhou's earlier embarrassment and awkwardness vanished instantly, replaced by his usual calm expression.
"nothing."
"You rest first, we can talk about it tomorrow." After saying that, he left without looking back.
Song Ning lay back down, but couldn't fall asleep.
She didn't go home tonight, and she doesn't know if Xie Linzhou sent anyone to inform her parents.
But why did she suddenly faint?
After thinking for a long time, Song Ning came to two conclusions: either he was ambushed by Xie Linzhou, or he was so angry with Xie Linzhou that he fainted.
Song Ning got up as soon as it was light, opened the door and looked outside. There were already servants cleaning the courtyard.
Just as he was about to ask, Zheng Gaoyi's delighted voice rang out from not far away: "Er Ya? You're awake?"
"Lord Zheng? What are you doing here?"
"I was just worried about you. Are you alright?" Zheng Gaoyi was genuinely worried. Putting everything else aside, he really liked Er Ya.
"Thank you for your concern, Lord Zheng. I'm fine now." Then she asked, "Lord Zheng, what exactly happened yesterday?"
"do not you remember?"
"I only remember General Xie asking me to do the laundry, and I don't remember anything after that."
They firmly denied splashing water.
Song Ning wasn't surprised by anything else, but when she heard that Lord Zheng had gotten lice at her house, her mouth dropped open.
Really?
Could it be that Xiaomei and Zhaodi got it while taking a bath that day?
Song Ning gave an awkward laugh: "Lord Zheng, we've been fleeing famine all this way and haven't had a chance to bathe, so..."
Zheng Gaoyi didn't take it seriously and quickly told Song Ning not to overthink it.
"Did General Xie say anything?"
Zheng Gaoyi chuckled lightly: "Let him tell you himself."
Xie Linzhou came over from the corridor and saw Zheng Gaoyi and Song Ning chatting and laughing.
She glared at Zheng Gaoyi, but when she saw Song Ning looking over, she immediately returned to her original expression.
Because of what happened last night, Xie Linzhou's gaze towards Song Ning is now different.
He glanced at Song Ning and asked, "Are you sure you're alright?"
"It's alright now."
"Um... I'll take you home."
"Stop! ... Uh... Hehe, no need to thank General Xie, I... I... I'll go back with Lord Zheng."
Zheng Gaoyi received a look from Song Ning and immediately smiled: "Yes, I'm going back too, I'll take Er Ya back with me."
Xie Linzhou wasn't annoyed by being humiliated, but when he looked at Zheng Gaoyi, there was a hint of dissatisfaction in his eyes.
Song Ning had thought it through. Xie Linzhou was the type of person who could turn on you faster than flipping through a book. One second he could be all nice to you, and the next he could be messing with you.
Send her? Forget it, you might just get her killed on the way.
When Song Ning left, Xie Linzhou specifically said these words to her: "Don't worry, I keep my word. I've agreed to what you said before."
Song Ning: ? ?
Allow what?
She and Xie Linzhou probably didn't have much of a relationship; if you had to say, it was a tragic fate.
She didn't ask, since General Xie had been sick for quite some time anyway.
Song Ning returned to Tianxiang County with Zheng Gaoyi, and as soon as he got back, he was "interrogated" by a group of people.
What did General Xie say?
How is General Xie doing lately?
Is General Xie coming anytime soon?
Should we also bring some of the vegetables we grew for General Xie?
......
Ever since they found out that Xie Linzhou had helped them last time, this group of people have practically worshipped Xie Linzhou.
"Let's all handle this as we see fit." She couldn't bear to hear the name "Young General Xie" anymore.
When Song Ning got home, he lay down on the kang (a heated brick bed) and immediately thought of the lice Zheng Gaoyi had mentioned.
He quickly got up and shouted, "Mother!"
Upon hearing the noise, Liu Yuelan rushed in and saw Song Ning carrying bedding with a mournful face: "Mother, I have lice."
She was tormented by Xie Linzhou because of a louse.
"What's the big deal about lice? Just wash them a few more times and they'll be gone."
Song Ning said with a bitter face, "But our family's lice have already infested the county magistrate and General Xie."
