Chapter 48 I always feel like I'm running naked.

Song Ning squeezed into the crowd and saw an old woman lying in the middle of the crowd, with a woman crying and wailing beside her.

The old woman had her eyes tightly closed, her face was pale, and she looked pained with her brows furrowed.

Although Song Ning didn't understand medicine, he knew that people shouldn't crowd together at this time, and that the patient should be given a comfortable environment to breathe.

Then he shouted, "Everyone, spread out! The patient can't breathe!"

Those nearby, hearing the shouts, were completely oblivious to the seriousness of the situation and continued to join in the commotion, with no one making a move.

Seeing that the old woman's lips were starting to turn purple, Song Ning quickly pushed the people around her back.

"Don't crowd together! People will really die!" Song Ning shouted again.

The words had barely left her lips when the woman lying on the ground cried out in a piercing voice, "Mother..."

The old lady's chest was no longer rising and falling. Song Ning went over and checked her nose; she was only exhaling and not inhaling.

That's how it was when her maternal grandfather passed away.

"Didn't you go to call a doctor?"

The woman looked at the servant beside her and choked up, saying, "We've already gone to invite them, but it's too far from the clinic, so they probably won't be able to get here anytime soon."

Given the old lady's current condition, she will probably be dead by the time the doctor arrives.

He felt the contents of his pocket. He figured he had no choice but to try anything, saving lives was the priority, and he couldn't worry about anything else.

"Help me help your old lady up."

Hearing Song Ning speak, the woman stopped crying and asked with teary eyes, "Do you have a way?"

Song Ning paused, then said, "I have a medicine here that might work."

After helping the person up, Song Ning took out a small bottle from his pocket, gritted his teeth, and poured the contents directly into the person's mouth.

Not long after she finished drinking, Song Ning breathed a sigh of relief when she saw the person's chest rise and fall again.

Just then, someone outside the crowd shouted, "The doctor is here!"

The next second, Song Ning was shoved to the ground, followed by a barrage of angry curses: "Who told you to give my mother random things to drink?!"

The scene immediately became chaotic, and no one had time to pay attention to her. Song Ning was not angry. She stood up from the ground, let out a long breath, and then pushed through the crowd and walked out.

Amidst the surrounding noise, people's attention immediately shifted to the crowd as Song Ning, carrying a basket on his back, walked towards the city gate.

Whether her water was useful or not, at least it wasn't something harmful, and it helped the old lady hold on until the doctor came.

As they approached the city gate, Wang Fugui had just arrived.

As the sun set, the group left the county town and returned to their village.

In summer, the shops in town close late. Song Ning used the money she received from Qi Liangyuan that day to buy a lot of fabric at the cloth shop. She didn't want to make cotton mattresses and quilts for the time being; she would just make do with what she had.

Now, there are still Song Xiu'e and her family of three in their household. At night, they sleep on thatched floor and just a layer of cloth on top. It's not good to sleep like that for a long time.

The cloth shop owner made a big deal today; Song Ning bought nearly a tael of silver worth of cloth, and when he left, he could barely carry it all.

After leaving the cloth shop, I quickly put the items into my spatial storage while no one was around, and then headed towards the town entrance.

I told Li Daniu that I would wait for her at the entrance to town before dark when I left today.

When Song Ning arrived, Li Daniu hadn't come yet, so he quickly took the items out of his spatial storage, and in no time, a small mountain of things had been piled up at his feet.

After waiting for a while, Song Ning saw Li Daniu driving the oxcart from afar and quickly waved to him.

Li Daniu helped load the things onto the car, and the two returned to the village.

Luckily it's getting late; it would probably be dark by the time she gets back. Otherwise, with all these things she brought back, she'd probably attract a lot of envy.

The oxcart stopped in front of the Song family's house. Song Ning called out "Mother!" and Liu Yuelan and Song Dahai came out of the house.

A bonfire was lit in the courtyard so that it would provide light when Song Ning returned.

Using the light from the yard, the couple were stunned when they saw the things in the car, and quickly began to move them into their home.

After moving everything, Song Ning handed a small bag to Li Daniu: "Uncle Daniu, you've worked hard today. This is for you. Take it back and have it with my aunt."

Li Daniu refused for a long time but finally Song Ning forced him to accept it.

The things they had just brought back from the car were all laid out on the table. Song Dahai and Liu Yuelan were already used to it, but Song Xiue was stunned.

Good heavens, this was the first time she had ever seen so much grain, and also the first time she had ever seen so much new cloth.

"Mom, keep these two bags of flour to make cold noodles, and keep the rest for ourselves."

Song Dahai quickly put the flour into the cabinet next to him and locked it.

Song Ning's eyes flickered slightly as she pulled out bundles of vegetables: "These were bought from the county town, and they're very fresh."

Then he took out the snacks and fruits from the basket.

He exclaimed, "Wow, the county town is great! They sell everything here, I'm overwhelmed by the choices!"

She picked up the bag of pastries and handed it to Song Xiu'e: "Aunt, these are for the two children."

Song Xiue took the pastries in a daze. Before she even opened them, she could smell their sweet aroma. The two children couldn't help but swallow.

Liu Yuelan picked up the fruit that Song Ning had taken out and asked curiously, "Er Ya, what is this? It looks pretty good."

"Oh, people in the county town call it fruit. I've never seen it before. Let's try it later."

Everything else is here except for the seeds she bought.

Song Xiue touched the pile of cloth, and her mind went blank.

Er Ya is such a spendthrift! Even if she earns money, she can't afford to spend it like this!

How much silver would all these things cost?

"Er Ya, why did you buy so much fabric?" Liu Yuelan asked.

Song Ning bought a lot of linen today. It's cheap and thick. She spread it on the bed and then covered it with a softer layer to make sleeping more comfortable.

Song Dahai has already started making the new bed today. All he needs to do is lay a thin layer of thatch on top and cover it with some cloth.

She also picked out some fine fabrics in the shop, waiting for Liu Yuelan to make her some underwear.

The villagers don't care about such things. The men basically don't have the means to wear any undergarments. The women just wrap a piece of cloth around their upper body and wear undergarments.

The children were completely naked underneath, which Song Ning found uncomfortable, always feeling like she was running around naked.

She bought quite a lot, enough for each of the family members to make two outfits.

Song Ning had walked too much today and was exhausted. After eating some fruit with her family, she couldn't hold on any longer, collapsed onto the bed, and fell fast asleep.

Liu Yuelan went in, took off Song Xiu'e's shoes, and covered her with a quilt. Song Xiu'e seemed to want to say something, but in the end, she didn't speak.

Although her surname is Song, she is ultimately an outsider after marriage, so it's not appropriate for her to say anything.

The next morning, Song Ning still didn't get up. Song Dahai and his wife felt sorry for their daughter and didn't wake her up. The couple went to town with Li Daniu to deliver cold noodles.

When Song Ning got up, the sun was already high in the sky. She sat up in bed, and since she was alone in the room, she got out of bed and prepared to go out.

Before I even reached the door, I could hear voices outside.
