There was a murmur outside, then silence, and after a while, there was a knock on the door.
Song Ning made a shushing gesture, and no one in the room dared to make a sound.
Hearing no movement from inside, the person outside seemed to laugh a few times before pushing the door open and entering.
As soon as the person entered, Song Ning made a gesture, and a stick struck the person on the head. Then everyone in the room rushed forward.
Over the years, they had never failed. But when they entered the room and saw a room full of people, they immediately panicked and more than a dozen of them ran out as fast as they could.
Song Ning shouted, and Gao Tiedan and the others outside yelled back, urging everyone in the courtyard to rush into the house.
They were all old, weak, sick, and disabled. They were good at using dirty tricks, but when it came to strength, how could they possibly beat these young and strong men?
When the sticks started hitting him, he had already begun to kneel down and beg for mercy.
At this point, the fine tradition of respecting the elderly and caring for the young was no longer valued; even Song Ning was going to kill.
Gao Tietou and Tian Youcai didn't aim their knives at vital points; they just sliced them off piece by piece, like slicing a duck.
After the dozen or so men were beaten half to death, Song Ning gave the order: "Tie them up."
He took the hemp rope from the house and wrapped it around and around, making sure he couldn't break free.
These ropes were originally meant to tie them up.
The commotion was quite loud; everyone is now gathered outside.
Gao Tiedan wasn't satisfied and kicked it several more times.
"Keep an eye on them, we'll talk about the rest when it gets light."
Village Chief Luo instructed everyone not to wander around and to leave a few people to guard each courtyard at night.
Many of them couldn't resist eating meat, and now the effects of the drug are kicking in, and they're all unconscious.
Looking back now, what these people told them was full of loopholes, but at the time they were only thinking about getting into the village to rest, so they didn't have time to think about it carefully.
Song Erya was indeed their lucky star.
Song Ning leaned against Song Dahai and Liu Yuelan and dozed off for a while. After what happened last night, no one dared to sleep too soundly and woke up early.
When Song Ning woke up in the morning, a strange smell wafted from the yard. She sniffed it and realized it was the smell of meat from last night.
In broad daylight, people became bolder and followed the smell.
Upon entering the old woman's courtyard, the smell became even stronger.
They quickly located the room on the far right.
Village Chief Luo and Gao Tiedan were about to go in to take a look when Song Ning grabbed them, saying, "It's better not to go in."
Given the taste and the scenes depicted, it's probably not something the average person could accept.
Ignorance is bliss; if I actually got in, I'd have nightmares every night.
"This is no good place; we'd better leave quickly."
But Gao Tiedan and his friends just wouldn't believe it, and even Village Chief Luo was intrigued.
"We're just going in to take a look. If there's nothing there, we'll come out. These people have harmed countless people. What if there are still survivors?"
Well, those words successfully convinced Song Ning.
But there's no way she can get in.
Song Ning hesitated, but ultimately said nothing, just in case everything inside was normal.
The group entered the house together and headed towards the room with its doors and windows tightly closed.
Almost instantly, screams erupted from inside the house, and then the men who had gone in stumbled out and collapsed there to vomit.
Song Ning sighed: "I already told you not to go in."
Several grown men squatted in the yard, almost vomiting bile.
If Song Ning wasn't mistaken, that room was the kitchen.
When Gao Tiedan and Village Chief Luo went in, the fire on the stove had already gone out, but the contents of the pot were still there.
Meat was simmering inside, already overcooked. There was a head in the pot, its eyeballs had fallen out, its nose was rotten, and its tongue was dangling out.
The entire pot was filled with human limbs.
Some of the people present were curious and kept asking what was inside, but those people couldn't say a word.
Many people ate meat last night. If they knew what they ate, I wonder if they could still be so calm.
"Don't ask anymore, it's better not to know."
After saying that, Song Ning lit a torch, surrounded the house with dry grass, and then set it ablaze.
Look at all those people who went in; they still haven't recovered. Gao Tiedan is the strongest among them, and even he finds him disgusting. What good could he be?
"Alright, let's pack our things and get ready to go."
When we came out of the neighboring courtyard, we had to help each other out, because our legs were too weak to stand up.
Song Ning had instructed them beforehand: "It's best not to talk about what you see inside, otherwise you won't have a peaceful journey."
Village Chief Luo and the others nodded, their faces ashen: "Er Ya, thank goodness you came back in time last night, otherwise... otherwise..."
Otherwise, he would have actually eaten all that meat.
The thought of this possibility made everyone vomit again.
Everyone was packing their bags. Look at these people, they were fine when they left, how come they've changed now? I'm worried that something might have happened.
Song Ning smiled and said, "Don't worry, everyone. It's nothing serious. It's just that too many people have died in the village, and they can't accept it for a while."
The fire in the neighboring yard was getting bigger and bigger, and they had almost finished cleaning it up.
Song Ning didn't know where these people got their sleeping pills from, but in any case, countless innocent lives were lost here.
The village is mostly populated by elderly people, and it is precisely because of this that those who stay overnight are able to lower their guard.
Song Ning didn't want to ask the dozen or so old men and women in the village why they were so cruel and why they killed so many people.
They had several men drag him away to a deserted spot behind the village.
Song Ning looked around and saw that the area was nothing but overgrown weeds; no one went up there.
Leave them there to fend for themselves; whether they die of thirst or starvation, it's their just deserts.
And those mounds of earth in the village, upon closer inspection during the day, reveal that they are filled with human bones.
Everyone instantly got goosebumps; it turned out they had spent the night with these dead people.
Village Chief Luo remained steadfast throughout the journey. As the village chief, he had to set an example. If he backed down, how could the others continue forward?
But today, he was carried into the car by his son.
With Village Chief Luo gone, Village Chief Zhou became the pillar of support.
The livestock pulled the cart slowly out of the village. After the old woman's house burned down, Song Ning followed the main group out.
We stopped briefly as we passed a courtyard.
This is the courtyard she and Gao Tiedan passed through last night. She heard a sound then, but it stopped after that.
This place was so unlucky that Song Ning didn't want to go in at all. He glanced inside and then turned to leave.
But after taking only two steps, he heard a "clang" sound coming from the yard.
Song Ning stopped in her tracks, frowned, and looked back at the courtyard.
