If we keep going, we might still be able to get out of this hellish place. But instead of feeling relieved, I feel even more depressed.
The livestock hadn't drunk any water all day and were too exhausted to walk.
Just now, two more fell down.
After people stopped, they didn't rush to cook or eat; instead, they all sat on the ground with long faces.
Song Ning knew they couldn't go any further; both people and animals had reached their limit.
Her legs started to cramp.
We need to find a way to get the water out.
Song Ning approached Village Chief Zhou: "Village Chief, I want to go some distance to find water before it gets dark."
The place where they stopped now didn't seem to have any water in front or behind them, so it would be easier for her to maneuver if they went further away.
"Okay, then take Gao Tiedan and the others with you. They can help out if anything happens."
Song Ning didn't bring everything; he only took the high-speed rail egg, as the rest were for patrolling.
Actually, she wanted to bring some people who weren't so quick-witted, so they wouldn't easily give themselves away, but everyone disagreed.
Hearing that she was going to find water, all the men in the family rushed to go with her.
Song Ning had no choice but to select a few who were physically strong and powerful.
Each person carried a bucket in their hand and a hoe and shovel on their back, even though they might not be able to find it.
Before Song Ning's group even set off, someone in the group started kneeling down and kowtowing to God.
This happened the last time we encountered locusts, and now they're back again.
Song Ning: ......
Seriously, instead of praying for rain like this, you might as well just silently chant Jam Hsiao's name a few times.
Song Ning ignored them and set off with several burly men.
Seeing that the team in the distance could no longer be seen, Song Ning had the group split up so that they could act independently.
"Uncle, you stay here. Let's dig a hole first, and dig it deep. If we don't find one, we'll dig a few more nearby."
"Brother Tiedan, this place is in your hands now."
Gao Tiedan laughed and said, "Er Ya, don't worry."
And so, Song Ning left the others behind.
Song Ning walked to the front, and seeing that he was far enough away from those people, he also started digging a hole.
When she had dug almost finished, Song Ning took advantage of the fact that the people over there weren't paying attention, took out a large plastic bag, put it in the hole she had dug, and then covered it with another layer of soil.
Song Ning dug several in a row, all using the same method.
After the pit was dug, I realized I hadn't brought the water out of the house beforehand.
She can retrieve items stored in her spatial dimension without going inside, but she can't do that with items in the house; she has to go in herself to retrieve them.
Looking over there, everyone was busy digging holes. Song Ning flashed into her spatial dimension and took out all the basins in the house to fill with water.
Gao Tiedan, standing in the distance, glanced towards Song Ning's direction, but Song Ning was nowhere to be seen.
He just saw Er Ya bending over and digging a hole.
Fearing something might happen to the person, he was about to go over when suddenly someone appeared in the previously deserted spot. Gao Tiedan thought he was seeing things, so he rubbed his eyes and looked closely. There stood Er Ya.
As soon as Song Ning turned her head, she saw Gao Tiedan staring at her blankly. She felt a pang of anxiety. Had she just given herself away?
He waved to Gao Tiedan and called out, "Brother Tiedan, have you found water yet?"
Gao Tiedan snapped out of his daze: "Oh, not yet. What about you?"
"I haven't found it yet either. I was tired and sat down on the ground to rest for a while."
Gao Tiedan wondered, "Could he have misread it?"
But he clearly saw that it appeared out of thin air.
After thinking for a while, I decided to forget it; I must have been mistaken. How could Er Ya, a living, breathing person, suddenly disappear and reappear?
Seeing that Gao Tiedan was still digging the hole, Song Ning quickly poured the water he had taken out into the hole.
As soon as water was poured in, the water washed away the soil at the bottom of the pit, exposing the plastic bag underneath.
After Song Ning waited until the soil had settled, he sprinkled some more soil in to make sure it wouldn't give away the secret.
After waiting for a while, Song Ning came over, pretending to be tired, and chatted with a few people.
"Er Ya, you can rest now. We'll take care of digging the hole," Zhu Shun said.
"Yes, with a few of us grown men around, we don't need you to do any work."
As he dug, he couldn't say anything anymore.
In such a large area, they moved quickly and dug dozens of holes in a short time, but after waiting for a long time, they didn't even see a trace of water.
Everyone looked dejected and now they're crestfallen.
Song Ning stood up, pretending to go back to check on the pit she had dug, and then jumped up excitedly as soon as she got there.
"There's water! There's water!"
The person on the other end immediately stopped what they were doing and stared at her blankly.
"What are you standing there for? Hurry up and bring the bucket over."
The group then picked up their buckets and ran towards this direction.
There were several pits in the ground, all filled with water, and everyone was so moved they almost cried.
Zhao Tiezhu from Dongyuan Village stepped forward and grabbed her hand: "Er Ya, we are truly blessed to have you."
After filling all the buckets, Gao Tiedan wanted to dig a few more, but Song Ning stopped him: "Brother Tiedan, I've tried it, there's no water anywhere else, only these few."
Including Song Ning, there were six of them. The other five people each carried a bucket, making a total of ten buckets. However, the buckets were not large, and the water was not enough for everyone to drink.
Song Ning told them to go back first, and she would stay and wait to see if water would come out of the pit.
Zhu Shun was worried and wanted to stay with her, but Song Ning immediately refused. If they stayed, how could she continue?
As soon as the person left, Song Ning quickly filled the pit, and it was almost done after going back and forth.
However, things got out of Song Ning's control. People knew there was water, so they rushed over, and the water in the pit quickly dried up.
