Chapter 9 Zhou Ling'an

Pour out the lard from the pot and seal it properly. Use the remaining oil to stir-fry vegetables.

Following Song Ning's instructions, Liu Yuelan began stir-frying the meat. The seasonings were precious, so Liu Yuelan dared not add too much, using only a little of each. However, the taste as soon as the meat hit the pan was just different.

The stir-fried dish smells even better than the stewed meat from yesterday; even Song Dahai, who was lying next door, could smell it.

The meat and vegetables were stir-fried in the pot, filling the air with a wonderful aroma. Song Ning couldn't wait any longer.

Seeing the food coming out of the pot, Song Ning quickly prepared the bowls and chopsticks and helped Song Dahai inside.

The rice was put into the bowls, and the dishes were served. The whole family was especially happy today.

Today, their table has white rice, two dishes (one meat and one vegetable), and half a small bowl of egg drop soup. In Nanshan Village today, this should be considered a top-notch meal.

Song Dahai smiled and said, "Let's eat then."

Song Ning and Song Dahai didn't care about anything else and started shoveling rice into their mouths. Even Liu Yuelan didn't say a word today and just ate her rice silently.

After the meal, not a single vegetable leaf was left. The family patted their stomachs contentedly, feeling quite full.

After sitting for a while, Liu Yuelan looked at Song Ning and asked, "Er Ya, is it really okay for us to eat like this?"

At this rate of eating, we'll run out of food in just a few days.

They've been eating so well lately that after just a few days, they're already afraid of going back to the days when they didn't even have wild vegetables.

"How about we eat two meals a day from now on, eat less, and then we can eat for more days?"

Food is so precious these days, we really can't afford to eat like this.

Song Ning thought about it carefully: "Mother is right. When I went to town today, the price of grain had gone up again."

The faces of Song Dahai and his wife fell instantly. Food is not so easy to come by. The little food they had now was hard-earned by their daughter. They would have to be very careful with the remaining food at home.

"But... don't worry, Father and Mother, your daughter will find a way."

She can't just eat and scratch like a chicken; she has to work hard so that she can have enough to eat in the future.

"Er Ya, don't push yourself too hard," Liu Yuelan said with some concern.

Since Er Ya woke up after hitting her head, she has become much more sensible, but this still worries Song Dahai and his wife.

"It's all my fault for being useless; I couldn't take good care of you and your mother," Song Dahai said dejectedly.

"Dad, don't think like that. We are a family. I was ignorant before, but I will help you and your parents in the future."

Since Song Ning changed, Song Dahai and Liu Yuelan both believed that Song Ning had been bewitched before, but now the Bodhisattva has appeared and their daughter has finally returned to normal.

Hearing Song Ning say these words now, her eyes immediately welled up with tears.

"So don't worry, Mom and Dad, we will never go hungry again."

After dinner, Song Dahai and Liu Yuelan went back to the next room to rest, while Song Ning took out the seeds she had bought that morning and went into her spatial dimension.

She bought a lot of seeds at the market today.

She had long been paying attention to the two plots of land in her space. If food could grow in the space, her family would never have to worry about not having enough to eat, nor would they have to worry about food shortages due to rising food prices.

The two plots of land in the space had been empty until Song Ning sowed the seeds on them and scooped some water from the spring to water them.

Now most of the land in the village is cracked and dry. Not to mention crops, even weeds don't grow anymore. Few people grow grains or vegetables. Only a few households in the east end of the village, which are close to the well, still have a small vegetable garden in their yards, but the vegetables that grow there don't grow very big because they don't have enough water.

Even the seeds she bought weren't of good quality; they were dry and shriveled, and she didn't know if they would even grow anything.

After lingering in the space for a while, Song Ning returned to her room, filled the water tank next to the stove, and then lay down on the bed, thinking about what kind of business she should start in the future.

When she went to town today, she made a special trip to the market. There were many things for sale at the market, but the most common items were food.

However, food is scarce now, so food is a bit expensive; a coarse flour bun costs two coins.

There were many stalls on the street early in the morning, mostly selling food.

However, to set up a stall in town, you have to go early to secure a good spot, and you also have to pay a stall fee every day. It costs five coins for half a day and nine coins for more than three hours, which is not cheap.

If you want to go when the market is crowded, you have to get up before dawn; if you go late, you probably won't get a good spot.

However, Nanshan Village is a bit far from the town, and it takes almost an hour to get there by oxcart. If you want to get a seat, you have to go even earlier.

But starting this early every day might be too much for my body.

Unfortunately, the family had lived in Nanshan Village for many years and did not know anyone in the town.

Song Ning sighed. Life is tough...

This matter had to be put aside for the time being, and taking advantage of the fact that there were fewer people around at noon, she went into the mountains again.

It's cooler in the mountains than in the village, but besides Song Ning, there are quite a few other people on the mountain.

Some even brought their children to dig for wild vegetables, but now the wild vegetables in the forest have been almost all dug up, so people can only go deeper into the forest.

Song Ning climbed up and inadvertently saw a small sapling, no bigger than a person's palm, growing under the shade of a large tree, its leaves already beginning to wilt.

The big tree next to it has already died, so this sapling probably won't live long either.

After observing for a while, I realized that the leaves indicated it was an apricot tree. In my previous life, I often picked a lot of these things when I went to the orchard during my vacations.

Song Ning dug around in the soil with her hands, carefully moved the sapling out, and quietly placed it into her spatial storage.

Since she's not going to live much longer anyway, why not let her try it out in the space? If it really works, then we can have fresh sweet apricots to eat in the future.

Having made up his mind, Song Ning wanted to dig up any saplings he saw, whether they were apples, oranges, or pears, just in case.

I walked up a bit further, and since I had nothing else to do, I decided to dig up a few more saplings. But after only a few steps, I heard a familiar voice behind me.

"I just want to search with you. Don't worry, I'll give you everything I find. I don't want anything else." A young girl followed a young man, her eyes shining, almost throwing herself at him.

"No need, I prefer quiet." The man's calm voice rang out, a straightforward refusal.

"Don't worry, as long as you let me stay by your side, I'll keep quiet." Her voice was so soft it was almost dripping with tenderness, which was completely at odds with her appearance.

Wang Cuicui was probably wearing her best clothes, and she had combed her hair and put on flowers. Although her skin was a bit dark, she looked somewhat vibrant, if you ignored her hair, which looked like it hadn't been washed in ages.

The man was also dressed in coarse cloth clothes, but there were no patches on his clothes, and he was clean. His hair was also neatly combed. Who else could it be but Zhou Ling'an?
