Chapter 164 I swear on my life that you can punish me as you wish
Gu Nan's strength couldn't even be called a fight, but Qi Yan covered his forehead with both hands and hid his red eyes by lowering his head. "I'm not talking nonsense. I'm useless. I can't give you anything. I'll only hold you back and embarrass you."
It was a favor from Gu Nan that he was allowed to stand by his side. It would be too embarrassing if he became a cripple.
He should be more sensible and leave on his own without her chasing him away.
But for some reason, when he thought about leaving her, he couldn't control his emotions and his tears kept falling.
He hurriedly wiped his tears, but the waterproof down jacket fabric covered his face with tears, making him look embarrassed and miserable.
As he was wiping, he suddenly burst into tears uncontrollably.
"I lied. My foot wasn't twisted. He hit me with a chair. I couldn't beat him."
"I'm in so much pain. I want to go to the hospital, but I'm afraid of the cost. I didn't know it was so serious. I don't want to become a cripple."
"Sister, I hate them so much."
"I hate them. Why did they do this to me?"
He was incoherent, crying and sobbing. Regret, resentment, fear, the surging emotions swallowed up his reason.
He had been patient for too long and was almost going crazy. He was stuck in a dead end and urgently needed an outlet.
Gu Nan stood up and held him in his arms.
Qi Yan hugged her back tightly and buried his face in her arms.
It didn't matter if he had one more wound or one less wound on his bruised body. He had suffered more serious and painful injuries than this and had survived them all.
What made him collapse was not his body that was like a ruin, but the fact that he had finally climbed up and saw the moon. He tried his best to win the favor of the moon, but the chains on his feet pulled him back into the abyss again.
At this moment, as much as he feared being abandoned and was reluctant to leave Gu Nan, he hated the violence Qi Feng had inflicted on him.
He's ugly enough without adding more scars.
Gu Nan hugged him tightly, silently soothing his fragile spirit, accompanying him as he broke himself down and rebuilt himself.
She had never fallen into the abyss, so she could not empathize with the dark despair. She had not experienced Qi Yan's life, so she did not know why he chose to sing the praises of death with his life at the end.
But with every day she spent with him, she seemed to understand a little more about his suffering.
It piled up little by little, and then the last straw killed him.
In this fucked up world, it’s always the unfortunate people who suffer, and after suffering, they are tortured by the pain with a scarred heart.
How unfair.
The crying gradually subsided, and Gu Nan went to the bathroom to wet a tissue and wipe Qi Yan's face.
The mottled tear marks, like the complicated and tangled skytrain in this city, divided the fair face into pieces.
Gu Nan gently cleaned him. Qi Yan's eyes were red and swollen, and he looked at Gu Nan with sobs, "Sister, please don't chase me away. I will cooperate with the treatment and work hard on rehabilitation. I won't become a cripple."
It seemed like in the blink of an eye, the old Qi Yan who was self-pitying and passive disappeared, and was replaced by a new Qi Yan who was unwilling to give up and worked hard to prove himself.
Gu Nan glanced at him and snorted, "Even if you want to leave, I won't let you go. We agreed to do a sketch every day, and you want to leave before you finish it? Dream on."
"Besides, he's a potential talent at Qingda University, a future cartoonist. Only a fool would let him go. But there's one thing I must make clear to you."
Gu Nanhu frowned, "Don't say those stupid things anymore. I don't like to hear them."
Qi Yan sniffed and said pitifully, "If I say it again, will my sister abandon me?"
Gu Nan raised his eyes, "Just because I said I wouldn't do it, you're going to do it again?"
"No more talking." Qi Yan immediately shook his head, "As long as sister wants me to, I won't say anything more."
His eyes were red, and a circle of tears gathered around his eye sockets, swirling wetly and reflecting crystal clear light outwards.
Gu Nan raised his hand and wiped the corners of his eyes with his fingertips. Tears fell from his eyes and soaked onto his fingertips, making them wet and salty.
"Idiot." Gu Nan said.
Qi Yan looked at her doubtfully.
"How could I possibly abandon you just because you've become a cripple? When we first met, your legs were even more lame than they are now. Do I dislike you?"
Qi Yan's eyes turned red again. He grabbed her hand, kissed away the water stains on her fingertips, and said vaguely but obediently, "No."
"I never disliked you before, and I certainly won't dislike you now." Gu Nan moved his fingertips, and gently brushed his lips with his soft fingertips. "Qi Yan, be more confident. I will always stand by you."
Qi Yan raised his eyes to look at her, his crystal tears like the stars slowly flowing in the sky, "Really?"
"Really." Gu Nan said softly, "Just go forward with confidence. As long as you look back, I'll be standing behind you."
Qi Yan's eyelashes trembled slightly, unable to believe that she would be chosen so firmly, "Is it really forever?"
"Yes." Gu Nan said slowly and firmly, "I swear on my life."
Qi Yan trembled even more violently, but he didn't dare look at her, "No, what if one day you want to regret it..."
Gu Nan chuckled, "No."
Qi Yan looked at her.
Gu Nan looked back at him. It was difficult for Qi Yan, who was covered in scars, to be sincere to someone. She understood and comprehended it, so she felt even more sorry for him.
"There won't be a day to regret. If that day comes, I'll punish you however you want." Gu Nan said, "Is that reassuring?"
Qi Yan looked into her eyes, and then seemed to be burned by her sincerity. He quickly looked away, and the hand holding her spasmed unnaturally.
His heart suddenly beat so hard it felt like it was about to burst out of his chest. His mouth was dry, but he tried to speak calmly, "Any punishment is fine."
Gu Nan raised his eyebrows and glanced at him meaningfully, "Yes, any punishment is fine, it's up to you."
"Okay." Qi Yan lowered his eyes, but his trembling eyelashes revealed that he was not at peace in his heart.
Gu Nan smiled.
The little rabbit wanted to find something to hold against her and become the master.
But how could she let him catch her tail?
She came for him.
Her preference, her planning, her good intentions were all given to him.
How could Qi Yan have the chance to punish her?
But it is quite interesting to see the little rabbit go from being timid and cautious to being full of courage and hiding its claws in the end.
There is no need to flatter or try to please others, just be yourself, maybe she will see a different Qi Yan.
"How's your comic drawing going?" Gu Nan changed the subject.
Speaking of comics, Qi Yan's spirits finally perked up a bit. "I drew some this morning. I'll buy some crayons and go back to color them later. I'll scan and revise them and then submit them."
"Okay, I'll wait for your good news." Gu Nan picked up his shoes and handed him the crutches. "Get a haircut before you go back. We'll take things one step at a time."
