Xiang Dingguo was a talented general who knew how to endure and deal with situations, but his talents were never fully utilized. Old Lady Xiang doted on Xiang Anbang, and whenever Xiang Anbang got into trouble, Old Lady Xiang would put pressure on Xiang Dingguo as an elder, forcing him to act according to her wishes.
Xiang Anbang and Xiang Dingguo's parents were far away in the frontier, and Lady Xiang held all the power and had the final say.
The improper family tradition has fostered evil tendencies. Since Xiang Anbang became well-versed in military books, General Xiang and his wife have placed high hopes on him. However, Xiang Anbang has grown from a straight sapling into a crooked tree that is hated by everyone.
His own parents risked their lives to protect civilians, yet his grandmother asked him to trample on them.
Xiang Dingguo was sitting in a carriage, which was speeding towards the farm.
A group of remnants of soldiers who had fought in the battlefield were stored in the farms outside Beijing. They trained at night and farmed during the day.
Everyone has experienced a brutal war and suffered tremendous psychological trauma. They cannot live an ordinary life of marrying and having children. They can only huddle together for warmth, gather on the farm, and live a day-to-day life.
Rural villages are not as prosperous as towns. People work from sunrise to sunset. As soon as it gets dark, the households in the village blow out the lights. After dinner, a group of people gather around the big tree at the entrance of the village to chat, either about trivial matters of family life or about whether the livestock are healthy.
When Xiang Dingguo's carriage passed the village entrance, the villagers stretched their necks to look. When a stranger entered the village, the dogs in the village would always bark once or twice.
One dog started barking, and then the other dogs followed suit. Then all the dogs in the village started barking, and gradually even the dogs in another village on the other side of the river started barking.
"Woof woof woof."
The villagers have been tied to the land all their lives, are peace-loving and lack a sense of adventure. When they saw the man coming down from the carriage with a knife in his hand, they all took their benches and went home and closed their doors.
The village chief stood up and dispersed the crowd: "Disperse, everyone, disperse. The people from the city are here to look for those in the mountains."
This group of people came to the mountain seven years ago. At that time, there was a group of bandits living in the mountain. The bandits were lazy and did not work all day. They only knew how to rob farmers of their food. Later, this group of people went up the mountain and killed all the bandits.
Seeing that they had no ill intentions, the village chief helped them settle down.
Xiang Dingguo knew the village chief. The two men met and nodded to each other, and then the carriage drove towards the top of the mountain.
In the second half of the night, everyone in the village fell asleep, and the sound of orderly footsteps came one after another.
The villagers guessed that someone had come down from the mountain.
Everyone heard the noise, but no one lit a lamp and came out to see. The timid ones hid under their covers, not daring to show their heads, while the brave ones leaned forward to look out through the crack in the door.
The night ends with the crowing of roosters, and the sun lazily rises from the clouds.
The main land woke up in the morning light. The people on the mountain had already gone into the city under the cover of night. Now the crowd gathered in front of the Sanfei College.
The vendors stopped setting up their stalls and just craned their necks to watch the fun.
"What's going on? Is Sanfei Academy going to be shut down by the government?"
Another onlooker said, "Girls should stay at home, nursing babies, embroidering, cooking, feeding pigs, and attending school."
"That's right. Going to school makes your heart wild. My niece is studying at Sanfei School. She's fifteen years old and still unengaged. I introduced her to a good family, but she still thinks the other man's conditions are not good enough."
Everyone was talking at once, and more and more people gathered at the door.
Xiang Anbang had a bandage wrapped around his head and had the support of his brother and a group of old subordinates, so he mustered up the courage to knock on the gate.
"Mo Qiqi, hurry up and get out here and follow me back to the Xiang Mansion to be a greenhouse maid, or I'll tear down your gate."
Miss Mo stood behind Gu Yinwei, frightened out of her wits, but still stood straight. If she really couldn't escape this time, she would rather die than be a greenhouse maid.
Gu Yingxia rubbed her hands excitedly. Someone came to cause trouble early in the morning. Third sister, please take action and wipe out the Xiang family.
Oh, I love watching my sister bully the weak.
Gu Yinwei took the lead, with two capable subordinates, Concubine Chen Mei, standing behind her. Princess Zhaoyang was holding a whip in her hand. If everyone hadn't stopped her, she would have rushed out to beat people.
"Xiang Anbang is just a idiot. He dared to come here, which means he brought enough helpers with him."
Concubine Chen's words made the final decision. Princess Zhaoyang waved her whip, which wrapped around a big tree, and jumped onto the treetop. There were crowds of people outside the courtyard gate, and Xiang Anbang indeed had many helpers standing behind him.
"They actually brought an army here. Wait, I'll have Hai Dongqing tell my brother to send more people over as well."
"Zhaoyang, the game between the two sides is not about numbers, but wisdom." Concubine Chen warned.
"Concubine Chen, please use your wisdom to repel them."
Concubine Chen's face stiffened. She had wisdom, but not much. Her IQ was at a critical juncture when dealing with a tense situation like today.
Gu Yinwei ordered someone to open the door and walked out confidently. Gu Yingxia and Gu Mengjun followed closely behind him. The three of them protected the younger generations behind them. The three of them walked in unison, and they looked intimidating without even getting angry.
Xiang Anbang had never seen Gu Yinwei before. Seeing that she was only thirty years old, he thought she was a noble lady from some family and shouted, "Little old lady, please get out of the way."
Gu Yingxia secretly suppressed her laughter and said to Gu Mengjun, "Did you hear that? He calls my sister a little old lady."
"The young man is so brave, even the emperor doesn't dare to shout like that."
Gu Yinwei stood still like a mountain and called out, "Kneel down!"
Xiang Anbang trembled all over. Her voice was very soft, but he felt as if he had heard thunder. His legs went weak and he knelt down.
"No gatherings or noises are allowed outside the school. The second son of the Xiang family has violated the school rules and must kneel for an hour."
After saying that, he pasted a rune on Xiang Anbang. Xiang Anbang seemed to be under a spell and didn't move, kneeling obediently.
