Chapter 145: Drinking and Misbehavior

Brothers rob tombs together, fathers and sons fight together in battle.

The two brothers Yao Dayang and Yao Wenyuan cooperate with each other and serve as each other's arms. They have emerged as a rising star in recent years. Just after they turned 20, they have become the best among this group.

Yao Dayang was a little worried about his brother, so he used the excuse of going to the bathroom and told his eight subordinates to quickly go down the cave.

He secretly went back along the same route to find Yao Wenyuan, "Brother."

"Brother, I'm glad you're back. I think something big is going to happen tonight, so let's go down the mountain first."

The brothers walked down the mountain along the path, and their brothers on the mountain were abandoned by them.

Not long after the two Yao brothers came down the mountain, they heard the barking of dogs and the continuous climbing up the mountain with torches. For a moment, the entire mountain behind the imperial mausoleum was filled with noise.

Gu Yinwei walked forward holding an umbrella. There were eight young men kneeling on the ground. These people were slender, with long fingers on their hands. They all had fierce eyes and stared at Gu Yinwei with hatred.

Fugui was so angry that he dared to dig people's graves so arrogantly, and he went up to the tomb robber with a ferocious look and hit him with a stick.

The man spat out a mouthful of blood with a "wow" sound, then raised the back of his hand to wipe his mouth, his eyes still defiant.

Fugui wanted to continue beating people, but Gu Yinwei stopped him.

"Where are your accomplices?"

When Gu Yinwei asked questions, several tomb robbers had evil smiles on their faces and looked vulgar.

"It seems you don't want to talk about it."

The leading tomb robber boasted, "Prepare a table of wine and food for us. If I'm happy, I might be merciful and tell you."

Gu Yinwei raised her hand gently: "Xunhe, they don't want to talk, do you know what to do?"

"I understand. Come, drag him away and cut out his tongue."

Xun He looks elegant, but what he says is very frightening. Tomb robbers are not afraid of skulls or ghosts, but when Xun He ordered the tombs to be dismantled, they were really scared.

There was a burst of ghostly howling outside. Chuchu and Biantao covered their ears in fear. There were eight people in total, seven of whom had their tongues gouged out. The last one confessed voluntarily with his teeth chattering.

Xun He tied his hands and feet and led him to Gu Yinwei. The man lost his previous arrogance and knelt on the ground with his head lowered humbly.

Fugui held a whip in his hand, and Xunhe tightly grabbed the rope tied around the tomb robber's neck.

Gu Yinwei asked through the screen, "How many people are there in your gang?"

"There are twenty-five of us in total, and each of us has his or her own duties."

"What are you responsible for?"

"I am a scatterer."

After some inquiries, Gu Yinwei learned that this group of tomb robbers had three hideouts in total. Xun He immediately sent people to investigate, but he came up empty-handed.

Xun Hebai ran away, then rushed into the cell and beat the tomb robbers half to death.

Fortunately, Chuchu stopped them, otherwise Xunhe would have beaten these people to death.

"The Emperor Emeritus loves his people like his own children. You, his subjects, do not love him, but instead want to dig up his grave. The spirits of your deceased ancestors will never forgive you."

"During the reign of the Retired Emperor, he issued many policies that benefited the people. Without him, you would have died in the war long ago."

"The emperor has so much money that he can't use it even if he dies, so it's okay for us to take some."

"You still say that, I will beat you to death."

Xunhe held an official position, so killing a few tomb robbers was not a big deal. However, Chuchu did not want to see Xunhe killing anyone, so she hurriedly sent someone to deliver a message to Zhu Dunyi.

Upon hearing this, Zhu Dunyi ordered the tomb robbers to be paraded through the streets as a warning to the public and beheaded at Caishikou three days later.

People who have lived in Kyoto for generations have more or less some family wealth. Most of them are well-educated and well-mannered, and have strong discernment. They all despise tomb robbers.

"You have lost all conscience and will go to hell."

"If you dig up someone's ancestral grave, the entire family will end up without descendants."

Shouts and curses rang out one after another, and rotten vegetable leaves, stones, and eggs were thrown onto the prison van.

The procession circled the downtown area several times until three o'clock in the afternoon. The supervising official took off the token and shouted, "Behead."

The executioner spat on his hands, then rubbed them, held the knife with both hands, and chopped it with all his might. The knife rose and fell as if he was cutting a winter melon.

There were quite a few onlookers in the crowd, some of whom were accomplices of the tomb robbers. Yao Wenyuan and Yao Dayang hid and dared not show up, so they sent a few beggars to investigate.

The little beggar told the Yao brothers what he had seen and heard. Yao Dayang picked up the big knife in his hand and shouted that if his men had not stopped him, he would have rushed out to assassinate the executioner.

"Let him go, let him go."

The people who were holding Yao Dayang let go of their hands, and Yao Dayang walked out with big strides.

"Brother, go ahead. You'll die in vain if you go. The brothers didn't betray us so that we could keep our lives so they could avenge them. If you act so recklessly, won't their deaths be worth it?"

Yao Dayang threw away the knife in his hand and burst into tears.

These people were his confidants, who had followed him through thick and thin. They had drunk the blood wine of oath that day, promising to share wealth and honor, life and death together.

Now his brothers are dead, but he is still alive.

"It's all my fault. It rained so hard that night. You advised me to stop, and I should have stopped."

"The deceased are gone, so let's collect more money and send it to their families."

Yao Wenyuan has become the leader of the entire tomb-robbing gang. After this incident, Yao Dayang obeys his brother's orders.

The Yao brothers were very good at hiding, and Gu Yinwei sent people to look for them for a long time but still found nothing.

Seeing Gu Yinwei looking sad, Gu Yingxia offered to help.

"How are you going to help?"

"I'll pretend to be a gang of bandits and say there's a huge tomb on the mountain. We need someone to dig it up, and we'll split the profits 50-50."

"You'd better save your energy. Your method doesn't sound reliable."

Gu Yingxia swore, "God makes things happen, but man proposes. I just don't believe that with all that bait, we can't catch a few of those small fish."

Gu Yingxia and Gu Mengjun discussed going to the mountains to be bandits. Bian Tao disguised them and the two women dressed as men. Then they took the token to leave the palace and went out to hire people.

Then they acted like the king of the mountain. They spread the word and many tomb robbers who had no real skills benefited from it. Naturally, the Yao brothers also heard the news.

As soon as Yao Wenyuan heard it, he knew it was a trap. Yao Dayang was ready to make a move, but his restless heart gradually calmed down after his brother's analysis.

But there are still some people in their gang who are eager to try, fleeing and hiding. It would be better to earn enough money for retirement in one go and start a new life in a place where no one knows them.

In order to prevent his men from revealing their identities and attracting pursuit from the imperial court, Yao Wenyuan stipulated that the stronghold should be changed every two days.

During lunch, Yao Dayang wanted to buy some wine because the food was too salty, but Yao Wenyuan stopped him, and the two brothers immediately had a falling out.

"You've been hiding all day, not even being allowed to drink a sip of alcohol. How long are you going to hide?"

"After this period, it's better to stay out of the spotlight."

"You keep saying it over and over again. It hurts my ears. I don't care about that. I just want to drink today."

"Brother, drinking will cause trouble."
