Chapter 24: Sparse Moonlight Like Remaining Snow

Fugui pushed open the door and entered the imperial study to report. Xunhe knocked on his hat with his whisk: "What are you doing, so reckless?"

"Master, Aunt Xia Chan from Qiwu Palace came to ask the emperor to come, and she said that human life is at stake."

Xun He thought for a moment and called out, "Call her in. We will take her to see the Emperor."

Zhu Dunyi was bent over his desk, with memorials piled up like a mountain on the table.

His eyes were fixed on the memorial, and he was busy writing and drawing with a cinnabar pen in one hand.

"explain."

The emperor's voice was not loud, but it could be heard clearly by everyone present.

"Empress Rou poisoned Ning Shuyi. Ning Shuyi is seriously ill and has been sent to the Imperial Hospital for treatment. The Empress Dowager requests that the Emperor go to Qiwu Palace."

"I understand."

Xunhe pushed open the door and led Xia Chan out.

Zhu Dunyi put down his pen and slowly stood up.

"Xun He, do you know why I prefer to stay at Jiuhua Peak and not come back?"

"I heard that the gods all live in the mountains." Xunhe answered very pertinently.

Zhu Dunyi paced back and forth, "There is nothing to do in the mountains, but there is a lot to do in the palace."

"As the old saying goes, 'Love is long-lasting, but heroes are short-lived.' I am no hero, and my affection cannot be fully shared with everyone. If my affection, love, and companionship are not evenly distributed, there will be disturbances in the palace."

"I wish I could transform into millions of people so I could take care of everyone's emotions."

Xun He opened the door for the emperor, smiling, "The boy Shancai, who was beside the Guanyin Bodhisattva of the South China Sea, only had three heads and six arms. The emperor has transformed into billions of incarnations, which shows that his supernatural powers are vast. Moving mountains and filling seas is just around the corner."

"You are always saying nice things to please me. Although I am the Son of Heaven, I am still a mortal. How can I have the magical power to move mountains and fill the sea?"

When Zhu Dunyi went out, he was followed by a large group of eunuchs, palace maids, and guards.

The octagonal hall in the Imperial Garden was packed with beautiful ladies who came to have a chance encounter with the emperor; even Chuchu and Biantao went along to join in the fun.

A group of people crowded in the direction where the emperor was passing, only Gu Yinwei was walking alone in the opposite direction with the cat in her arms.

Gu Yinwei had already found out that the person in the sedan chair was not the emperor at all.

Just now when the emperor's procession passed by, she didn't catch any true dragon luck, but instead the scenery here was unique and beautiful.

The tabby cat spread its legs and ran forward, and Gu Yinwei followed behind it.

Gu Yinwei squatted down and reached out to hug the tabby cat. A man in black clothes squatted down and hugged the cat first.

Gu Yinwei looked up at the person in front of him. Dragon energy was surging around him, like a huge energy field, and a golden dragon was hovering above his head.

While Gu Yinwei was looking at the other person, the other person was also looking at her.

Her hair was combed into a fairy bun, her eyes were as bright as autumn water, she was tall and frail, and she was holding a tabby cat in her arms.

"Who is this person? I seem to have seen her somewhere." he thought to himself.

Gu Yinwei wanted to rush over and absorb more energy. Zhu Dunyi stretched out his hand to her, and Gu Yinwei stretched out her little hand and put it on him without hesitation.

The moonlight leaked through the forest, sparse as the remaining snow, and the person in front of him was brighter than the moon in the sky.

There were many flowers blooming in the imperial garden, including tender pink roses, lavender hydrangeas, and white flat bamboo flowers. Many beautiful girls were standing among the flowers. They were crowded together and waving handkerchiefs embroidered with various flowers.

The concubines were lively and noisy, but Gu Yinwei stood there quietly. She said nothing, but her words were more powerful than a thousand words.

Zhu Dunyi turned and left, murmured softly: "The moon tonight is very unique."

He walked to Qiwu Palace, and Xunhe and his group had just arrived. Fugui tiptoed out of the sedan chair. Zhu Dunyi, dressed in black clothes, sat in the sedan chair. When he came out again, he had changed into a bright yellow robe.

The Queen brought everyone out to greet them, and Concubine Rou knelt at the end of the team.

"What's going on again?" Zhu Dunyi said unhappily.

"Concubine Rou poisoned Ning Shuyi and her life is in danger." The Queen said righteously.

"Your Majesty, Concubine Rou treats human life as worthless. She must be severely punished, otherwise the people in the harem will follow suit and it will be difficult to convince the public." Concubine Yi also comforted.

Zhu Dunyi held his forehead and said nothing, while the two of them chattered without stopping for a moment.

From the moment he stepped into Qiwu Palace, he seemed to have entered another world, a world full of noise, calculations, and intrigues.

He looked out the window and through the thick clouds, he could see the moon hidden in the clouds. The moon was blocked by the dark clouds, with only a corner showing. Quietly, the expression on Zhu Dunyi's face gradually relaxed.

The Queen and Concubine Yi looked at each other. They had just said a lot of things, but the Emperor didn't hear a word of them.

Concubine Rou lay on the ground and cried, "Your Majesty, please listen to my heart."

Zhu Dunyi blurted out one word: "Speak."

"Ning Shuyi told me a huge secret. She said that the reason why the harem's monthly salary and palace clothing could not be distributed on time was because someone used the palace's monthly salary to lend out."

The Queen said, "The accounts in the harem are clear and precise. Concubine Rou, please do not speak nonsense."

"Go on." Zhu Dunyi's voice was very soft, and no emotion could be heard.

Concubine Rou wiped her tears and took a deep breath.

"Ning Shuyi grew up with Concubine Rou and her younger sister. The two sisters are very close. These words were most likely revealed by Concubine Yi unintentionally."

"Ning Shuyi is now in such great distress because of Concubine Yi."

Concubine Rou pointed fingers at Concubine Yi. Concubine Yi had guessed that Concubine Rou would blame her and was ready to fight back at any time.

"What Concubine Rou said is contradictory. You also said that I grew up with Ning Shuyi and we are very close. Why would I harm her?"
