Chapter 73

Chapter 73

The three of them found a secluded place.

The woman's name was Wang Tan, and she was an ordinary employee in the industrial park. In this city, the residents were divided into two types: polluters and ordinary people who were unpolluted.

The latter were called "lower class" or "slave" in the city.

The lower classes lived in the industrial area, and their wages were in a different currency that could not be used to buy things in the commercial district, but only in the shops in the industrial area.

Wang Tan risked stealing the medicine because his mother was dying, and the best medicine was in the commercial street, while the medicine in the industrial area was just defective.

The two listened with furrowed brows. According to Wang Tan, this city had existed for over a decade. Where did its residents come from? Why would ordinary people exist in a place filled with pollution? And where did these ordinary people go after being polluted?

"My lords, thank you for buying me the medicine, but only slaves are allowed in the industrial zone. I will try my best to repay you." Wang Tan bowed deeply. She seemed to have become accustomed to being obsequious, her eyes flashing with fear, and she could never straighten her back.

"Since the industrial zone is inaccessible, what about the aquaculture zone?" Having finally found an opportunity to gather intelligence, Xiao Shengyun was determined not to let it slip by.

As soon as she finished speaking, Wang Tan's face showed extreme fear, and her whole body began to tremble.

"I don't know, I don't know what's inside. If you two are new here, then the only place you can enter is the fighting arena."

Her face was frighteningly pale, as if she might faint at any moment. Xiao Shengyun didn't ask any more questions, after all, Wang Tan was an ordinary person through and through.

"Then you should go back quickly and take the medicine to your mother," he said gently. "But I have a few more questions. How about we meet here at eight o'clock the day after tomorrow?"

After agreeing, Wang Tan thanked him repeatedly.

"Any other questions? Why don't you ask now?" Zhou Zhi asked, puzzled, after the others left.

"There are no problems now, but there will be problems after we finish touring this place," Xiao Shengyun said with a smile.

They then drove through the industrial area and got off at the fighting arena.

This is a huge circular building with five floors.

"Is this your first time here?" the waiter at the door greeted them.

After receiving an affirmative answer, the waiter briefly explained the rules of the fighting arena. To the two's surprise, fighting was their job.

You can earn points by winning matches. The fighting arena ranks players monthly based on their points, and different rankings earn different amounts of wages and nutrient solutions.

However, those who rank higher can still enjoy various privileges in the city.

The fighting arena allows for team play, with matches in one, two, and three teams. This is because some players specialize in support roles, while others focus more on combat. Points are awarded based on the performance of each member of the team after a match is won.

This is practically like raising a venomous insect. What exactly does the city lord want to do by recruiting so many corruptors?

They filled out the forms and went downstairs, where there was a bustling noise, and there were even gambling dens operating downstairs.

A man with a goat's head is standing on the platform, raising his hands.

He was clearly the victor in this war.

"So who will be 'Goat's' next opponent?!" the host shouted at the top of his lungs to create excitement, drawing out the last syllable.

The people nearby immediately scattered and rushed to other rooms.

What's going on?

The two newcomers looked completely bewildered.

Then the goat-headed man pointed at them.

"Alright, congratulations to these two, you are the next group of opponents for the Goat," the host shouted.

The other spectators cheered; a new unlucky guy had been born!

"Can we abstain?" Xiao Shengyun asked.

"If either of you abstains, the money in your cards will be cleared," the host threatened.

"Let's go clean up," Xiao Shengyun said generously.

"If you don't go on stage, the money in your card will be cleared!" The host was even angrier.

He pulled up the newcomer's card number, and a large zero appeared on the screen.

"That's why I told you to clear it as you please." The person looked completely innocent. There was only one thousand in the card, but it was cleared to zero after buying medicine for Wang Tan.

The host turned green.

"Then let's choose another one, you it is." The goat was quite good-natured.

The chosen person, who was grinning and watching the spectacle unfold, immediately turned terrified after being pointed at by the goat, as if the person in front of him was not in a fighting ring but on a guillotine.

This creature also appeared to be a marine animal, with two bright red crab claws replacing the human arm. It shakily climbed onto the stage, the two claws making a "clanging" sound as they crossed.

Xiao Shengyun and Zhou Zhi found seats near the entrance and sat down to enjoy the performance, which was full of violent aesthetics.

The long crab claws extend first. Unlike human arms, which are of fixed length, these claws fold like straws and are much longer than they appear when extended.

The goat held a dagger in its hand. The dagger collided with the crab claw, and then the goat flipped its wrist, plunging the dagger directly into the joint of the crab claw.

That's the most vulnerable part of the crab claw.

With a forceful press of the dagger, the joint was severed, and some white flesh fell out of the crab claw.

The challenger screamed in pain. Since there were no nerves in the crab claws, he didn't experience the intense pain of having his arm severed like a human. So he quickly swung his arm forward again.

A dagger is never the best weapon choice, but in the hands of a goat, it proved to be the most powerful.

The dagger is made of high-quality material, gleaming with a metallic sheen. It cuts smoothly through joints, almost like slicing tofu.

Moreover, its owner was a very powerful butcher. Xiao Shengyun had never seen a butcher skillfully butcher an ox, but today he saw a goat butcher a crab.

He was incredibly fast, his dagger weaving through the joints of the crab's claws.

"ah!"

The challenger let out an even louder scream as the crab claw was severed from the base.

Liquid and white meat from the crab claws scattered on the ground, and the air began to fill with the distinctive fishy smell of seafood. The audience in front covered their mouths and noses.

This is simply art.

Xiao Shengyun suddenly remembered helping Ms. Xu buy groceries before. There was a butcher at the market who was particularly skilled. His pork was freshly slaughtered every morning, and his stall was always surrounded by people. Huge pigs were laid out on the cutting board, and the knife moved between the bones and diaphragm, cutting different cuts of meat, such as forelegs, hind legs, plum blossoms, and streaky pork, into pieces.

"Congratulations, Goat! You've earned 2,000 points in this competition. Goat, please choose your next opponent." The host announced the result.

Xiao Shengyun's gaze swept past the goat that had raised its arms again and landed on the loser.

He slumped to the ground, his face expressionless, no longer showing the pain he had just felt, but rather numbness.

Two staff members dragged him away. He seemed to want to resist, but a crab without its claws can only be at their mercy.

His arm was still bleeding profusely from the broken wound, leaving two long trails of blood after he was dragged away by the staff.

Xiao Shengyun secretly wrapped the black thread around the wrist of a staff member.

They dragged the crabs into the elevator and into the garage at the bottom, where a truck was parked with its rear doors wide open.

The carriage was filled with cages, each containing the remains of a mutilated loser. These people had been locked up like livestock, neatly stacked.

Just as the staff were trying to stuff the crab into the carriage, he suddenly began to struggle violently.

Many creatures unleash tremendous power before their death.

But how can a person with both arms severed resist?

The insignificant fire was quickly extinguished, and the huge iron rod struck the back of its neck, knocking the crab unconscious.

Xiao Shengyun's perspective was just right to see his face, which was covered in glistening liquid. Were they tears?

Pollutants can also shed tears.

He was put in a cage and carried to the train carriage.

The carriage door closed, with white lettering on it: "Special Vehicle for Livestock Farms".

The host's voice on stage drew Xiao Shengyun's attention back.

"Goat has achieved a five-game winning streak today. Now we will settle the rewards. His prize today is eight bottles of nutrient solution. Let's congratulate Goat!"

Can pollutants also drink nutrient solutions?

The host handed a black box to the goat, and the audience stared intently at the box, like a pack of hungry wolves.

But here, the sheep are not sheep, and the wolves are not wolves.

After the match ended, the two left with the crowd, where a long queue formed.

What's going on now?

As they lined up to the exit, a staff member handed them a bottle with the words "nutrient solution" written on it.

There were relevant rules nearby; apparently, you could get a bottle of nutrient solution if you stayed inside for three hours.

No wonder you could die if you went on stage, and there were so many people in the fighting arena.

Xiao Shengyun held the bottle, which appeared to be made of metal and felt quite heavy in his hand.

When I came out, it was already dark outside. A bunch of people were crowded at the entrance, waiting for the bus. The fighting arena was located halfway up the mountain, and if they couldn't catch the bus, they would have to climb down the mountain.

"Are you new here today?" someone asked from the side.

Xiao Shengyun looked in the direction of the sound and saw a goat.

"Yes." He nodded.

"Go back early, it's not safe here at night."

This isn't a warning, it's a reminder. Why would a butcher in a fighting arena remind them? What will happen tonight?

The goat seemed to want to say something more, but it didn't, because the car arrived and everyone rushed forward.

The car only has a few dozen seats, which is not enough to accommodate so many people.

"Go back?" Xiao Shengyun asked.

“Stay and see what happens tonight,” Zhou Zhi replied.
