Chapter 15: One TV is Missing (2/2)

She was fair-skinned and had taken a bath, so Liang Guiying stopped her: "I can pull out these few weeds in a few minutes. That old woman returned the things a few days ago. If there's anything she hasn't returned, I'll go to the flashlight factory to ask her for it."

Zhou Yue obediently went back to her room.

Liang Guiying worked quickly and soon pulled up all the weeds.

After clearing away the weeds, only a few rose bushes and bougainvillea bushes remained in the huge flowerbed.

The roses were thin and weak, with hardly any green leaves, and the bougainvillea was half-dead; they were really an eyesore.

It would be better to pull them up and make room to grow vegetables.

Liang Guiying muttered something to herself, then swept up the weeds and piled them in the corner of the wall. After drying them for two days, the weeds could be burned, and the ashes could be used to nourish the soil.

After finishing the work in front of the house, the sun had already set, and the sky was full of red clouds. Liang Guiying glanced at it and said, "It's quite beautiful."

As she returned to the house, she ran into Zhou Yue, who was rushing out of the living room. Liang Guiying gripped the broom tightly and said, "You old hag, did you really forget to return something?"

Zhou Yue nodded: "Yes, a television."

That television was a gift from someone when Zhou Yue turned eighteen, a coming-of-age present. The television was kept at home for less than three days before her fourth aunt said there was no picture and it needed to be taken away for repair. After that, Zhou Yue never saw it again. Over time, Zhou Yue forgot that there had ever been a television at home until just now.

Liang Guiying was deep in thought.

That night, Uncle Zhong took some people to the flashlight factory. The next day, Aunt Si's son returned everything. He also replaced the items that weren't returned. Since the TV was such a big item, they didn't dare not return it.

The only possibility is that the TV isn't at Fourth Aunt's son's house, but as for where it is...

Liang Guiying guessed it should be at Zhou Yue's aunt's house.

"Do you have the TV's instruction manual or any other proof of ownership?" Liang Guiying asked.

Zhou Yue shook her head. When Fourth Aunt took the TV away, she packed it up and took the cardboard box with her.

Liang Guiying put down the broom: "Don't worry, I'll go ask Uncle Zhong."

The new union director of the cotton mill brought a lot of gifts. Liang Guiying was about to pick out two to take with her when two people came in through the gate: "Zhou Yue, have you eaten yet?"

Upon seeing the other person, Zhou Yue felt a chill run down her spine and her face changed. She called out in a trembling voice, "Uncle, Aunt!"

Zhou Yue's uncle, Jiang Chunsheng, is the workshop director at the Jiangcheng Toothpaste Factory. He always carries a briefcase under his arm and has a very imposing presence.

Zhou Yue's aunt, Tian Aihua, also worked as the logistics director at the toothpaste factory. She was well-off, but had a mean-looking face.

Liang Guiying smiled. She hadn't even gone to look for them yet, and they had come to her on their own. That was good; it saved her an extra trip.

"Oh my, Uncle and Aunt are here! Come in and sit down."

Liang Guiying greeted them with a smile and then ushered them into the house.

Then he instructed Zhou Yue, "Zhou Yue, go boil some water! Oh, and we're out of tea leaves, go to the department store and buy a box."

"good!"

Liang Guiying spoke quickly and rapidly, and by the time Jiang Chunsheng and his wife realized what was happening, Zhou Yue had already left.

Tian Aihua frowned: "Grandma Niannian, we're not here for tea today."

"So you knew that Niannian had fallen into the water every year, and came specifically to visit her?"

Tian Aihua grunted in response, and Liang Guiying glanced at the couple's empty hands, giving a half-smile and a half-oh.

She said nothing, yet it was as if she had said everything.

—Why do you come empty-handed when you visit someone who is sick?
