Chapter 18: Liang Guiying Speaks Out (2/2)

"I don't use this bike very often, you can take it and ride it."

"If there really isn't any, then I'll just have to shamelessly continue using it." Liang Guiying said with a smile, "Then I'll have to trouble Uncle Zhong."

Uncle Zhong asked her again when she would be back: "Your village office has a phone, right? Give me a call before you come back, and I'll pick you up at the dock."

"I have a lot of bags and it's not convenient for me to take the bus, so I'll call you when the time comes."

Zhou Yue was washing quilts in the yard. The mother and daughter were standing in a large basin, stomping around and laughing. Suddenly, Liang Guiying barged in, startling Zhou Yue and making her feel uncomfortable.

Zhou Xiaonian happily called out, "Grandma, wash the blankets!"

"Oh my goodness, are you washing the blankets or playing in the water?"

"The blanket!" the little girl emphasized, "Wash the blanket!"

"Alright, alright, I'll wash your quilt every year." Liang Guiying first picked her up and spun her around a few times, then kissed her soft face several times before putting her down. "Washing your quilt every year is hard work, Grandma will cook you some meat."

"Eat meat, eat meat!"

At noon, Liang Guiying took a nap, and in the afternoon she went to the backyard to tidy up the ground.

The ground, which had been dried in the sun for four days, was very soft and loose. While tidying up the ground, Liang Guiying also dug out the wilted grass roots and turned the open space into vegetable patches about one meter wide. This way, vegetables could be picked from both sides of the patches without having to step into the ground and make the whole house look like a patch.

When Zhou Yue woke up from her afternoon nap, she heard noises in the backyard and went downstairs to help. Liang Guiying took the opportunity to tell her about her trip back to the village the next day.

Liang Guiying squatted down to pick up grass seeds and pebbles: "You can take advantage of these few days to find a nanny, but Xiaonian is my own granddaughter. I need to make sure that she is really good to Xiaonian before I can go back to the village with peace of mind."

There was something else Liang Guiying didn't say, because she knew that saying it at this moment would only add to Zhou Yue's psychological burden.

Zhou Yue is kind and very patient, which means she's easy to bully. Her status as the former mother-in-law is awkward, and her staying here is already a form of bullying. If she were to say anything else, how would she be any different from the likes of Fourth Aunt?

While they were making dinner, Boss Zhang arrived with his two partners, saying he hoped to go back to the village with Liang Guiying first thing the next morning.

“Let’s go with the price you suggested, Sister Guiying. If I can get through this crisis, I’ll give you an extra bonus.” Boss Zhang readily took out twenty yuan. “Sister Guiying, this is the deposit.”

The other party was straightforward, and Liang Guiying was equally decisive: "If I miss the early ferry tomorrow, Mr. Zhang can come to our village and wait for me. I can't guarantee anything else, but I'll definitely leave my five pigs to you."

Liang Guiying wanted to invite Mr. Zhang and his two companions to stay for dinner, but Mr. Zhang waved his hand and said he had urgent business to attend to.

When he saw Zhou Xiaonian in the yard as he was leaving, he immediately took out a dime and stuffed it into her hand, and also patted her head.

Liang Guiying saw it and nodded secretly, thinking to herself that Boss Zhang was really particular.

The next morning, Liang Guiying got up very early. She planned to cook some noodles and also cook some meat porridge for Niannian before leaving. Unexpectedly, Zhou Yue was already up and had even bought breakfast.

While tidying up the table, Zhou Yue said, "The bus to the dock will pass by the entrance around 7:15. Eat before you go."

Liang Guiying nodded and said, "Your uncle and aunt will probably come again in the next few days. If you don't know how to deal with it, go find Uncle Zhong."

"good."

"Forget it, I'll go find Aunt Zhong and ask her to come to our house to watch TV during the day. With her here, your uncle and the others won't dare to make things difficult for you. You just need to treat her to food and drinks."

Zhou Yue raised her eyebrows and looked at Liang Guiying, who was rambling on and on, and a warm feeling welled up in her heart.

She opened her mouth and said, "Thank you."

"No need to thank me. I am Niannian's grandmother, and you are Niannian's mother. We are all Niannian's family. No matter what, this relationship will never change in this lifetime."
