Chapter 34 Parting (1/2)

Soft-hearted? Lin Shuxian has caused her so much suffering, how could she possibly be soft-hearted?

She only regretted not witnessing Lin Shuxian's breakdown firsthand, missing out on some of the thrill.

Zhou Yue shook her head: "No, I just want to know where you will send her. After I leave with you, there will only be an old person and a child at home. I'm afraid she will come back."

"You don't need to know where she went, but I can assure you she won't come back."

Zhou Yue breathed a sigh of relief, thanked Gu Yunzheng, and quickly went back into the house.

She was leaving in two hours, and she wanted to hold her daughter a little longer!

Looking at Zhou Yue's rabbit-like back, Gu Yunzheng touched his face. Was he really that scary?

"Everyone tells you to smile more, but you always complain. Look, not only are unmarried girls afraid of you, but even married mothers turn into mice when they see you!" Team member Li Wei joked. "If you don't change, you're destined to be a bachelor for life!"

Gu Yunzheng boarded the military vehicle: "If she were just a rat, it would be simple; we wouldn't have wasted a year and a half on her."

Li Wei smiled helplessly.

He said something about the east, and Gu Yunzheng replied something about the west. They couldn't find common ground, so they stopped talking!

Inside the house, Liang Guiying washed the rice and put it in the pot. With three family members and five children, a small rice cooker was definitely not enough, so she switched to the large pot she usually used for boiling water.

This pot can cook enough rice for more than a dozen people. Regardless of what dishes are served, Liang Guiying can cook enough rice for everyone.

She bought pork and vegetables in the morning, enough for three people. She immediately grabbed two chickens, killed them, and boiled water. Just as she was about to pluck the feathers, a few young comrades came in.

"Auntie, we're here to help," Li Wei said with a smile.

Captain Gu of his family had amazing hearing. Hearing the noise inside the house, he said that the Zhou family had killed two chickens and guessed that they had cooked their meal. So he called them in to help.

Liang Guiying smiled broadly: "No, that won't do. How can we let our guests do the cooking? Please sit and have some tea. I'm quick, and I'll be done cooking soon. As long as you don't mind a simple home-cooked meal, that's fine."

“We were in the same unit as Comrade Zhou Yue’s father, we were comrades-in-arms. When you’re at a comrade’s home, you’re one of us. How can we just sit around and wait to be fed?”

"Yes, he's one of us, young comrade..."

"Auntie, my name is Li Wei, his name is Cheng Fangfang, and our captain's name is Gu Yunzheng. Auntie, you don't know, what we soldiers miss most is this home-cooked meal."

Liang Guiying did need help, so she didn't stand on ceremony: "Then send one of you to the kitchen to help me watch the fire. There's rice in the big pot. I'll go pick some vegetables, and you can help me pluck the feathers and chop the chicken. There are other vegetables on the stove, so you can take care of those as well."

"Okay, Auntie."

Not having enough vegetables, Liang Guiying wanted to go to Aunt Wang's to buy some. She had only rushed halfway there when she saw Aunt Wang and Aunt Zhong. Aunt Wang had half a basket of vegetables, ginger, scallions, and garlic, while Aunt Zhong had dried bamboo shoots and two large bags of sausages.

"Thank you so much, ladies! You're such a lifesaver!"

"Why be so polite? But is Zhou Yue leaving immediately?"

"Yes, they said we have to leave in ninety minutes. Oh dear, I'm so flustered!"

"Don't panic, we're here."

Upon entering the house and seeing Li Wei and the others helping out, Aunt Wang pulled Liang Guiying aside: "Don't you have some cured fish? Take out a few, and also take out the eggs. That'll make five or six dishes."

Liang Guiying quickly grabbed a few dried fish and took out all the eggs.

Mrs. Chang from next door came over: "Grandma Niannian, the stove in my house is empty. If you need it, just come and use it. When you're done, just wash it and lock the door for me. Old Chang and I have a shift tonight and we have to fly to Kyoto. My daughter won't be back until tomorrow morning at the earliest."

"Oh, Mrs. Chang, thank you so much!"

"We're neighbors, we don't talk about these things!"

A short while later, Uncle Zhong brought over two cases of drinks, along with two other neighbors. They immediately rolled up their sleeves and started helping out.
