Chapter 55 Everything is Ready (1/2)

He rubbed his hands together and then his face to make his smile look brighter and more sincere: "Sister Guiying, there's something I'd like to ask you for a favor."

Liang Guiying laughed: "I've always been the one troubling you, Director Gao. I never thought I'd be the one causing you trouble one day."

Gao Yongde smiled and said, "This is what happened..."

When Zhou Yue resigned, he helped arrange for the granddaughter of a big shot in the province to take over the position. The big shot was very satisfied and revealed that he would be transferred to the municipal party committee at the end of the year.

Gao Yongde originally thought that this matter would not be resolved until November at the earliest, but a few days ago someone from the Municipal Personnel Bureau came to him and asked him to prepare materials, saying that the organization wanted to conduct an investigation on him personally.

The fact that he was suddenly being investigated at this time of year, without any holidays or festivals, made Gao Yongde realize that it was an instruction from Xiao Ya's grandfather, and the relevant departments in Jiangcheng were preparing to go through the procedures.

Gao Yongde had all the other materials, but he had none for the one about caring for the orphans of martyrs.

Since he was transferred to the cotton mill as its director, there has only been one orphan of a martyr in the factory, Zhou Yue. However, Zhou Yue has already left the factory, and he has not provided any assistance to her. He felt embarrassed to ask Zhou Yue to write a letter of thanks.

The people at the personnel bureau told him that the higher-ups really wanted to see this material, so Gao Yongde had no choice but to bite the bullet and go to Liang Guiying, hoping to contact Zhou Yue and ask her to write a letter and put in a good word for him.

After listening, Liang Guiying said, "Director Gao, you did take care of my Zhou Yue, but we can't contact her now, so she definitely can't write this letter. If I were to write it, would it be effective?"

Gao Yongde said, "It would be best if the martyrs' descendants wrote it."

“Zhou Yue’s child is not even two years old, so she can’t write.” Liang Guiying thought for a while with a troubled expression. “How about I write a thank-you letter from my granddaughter’s perspective, about how you, Director Gao, helped our family after Zhou Yue left Jiangcheng!”

Gao Yongde felt that this wasn't entirely unacceptable.

More than an hour later, Liang Guiying finished writing her thank-you letter. Her handwriting wasn't exactly beautiful; it looked crooked and uneven, which made her a little embarrassed. Gao Yongde, however, was very satisfied because her letter was very sincere, and the crooked handwriting only made it seem more simple and genuine.

"Sister Guiying, you've helped me a lot. If you need anything from me in the future, just come to my house. I won't bother you any longer."

The shop had been cleaned and tidied up by Boss Zhang and his team, so Liang Guiying had nothing left to clean. She closed the shop and printed flyers. Several thousand flyers, two thick stacks. If a third of the people picked up these flyers and read them carefully, then that third of them could become customers of the ice cream parlor.

The department store next to the residential area was being run by Aunt Zhong today, and Liang Guiying gave her a flyer.

"What is this?"

After reading the contents of the flyer, Aunt Zhong's eyes widened: "When did you open the ice cream parlor? When did you find the shop? Is everything ready? Have you bought everything you need? Oh my, you've done something so big, how come you didn't say a word!"

"I was lucky and rented a good shop as soon as I went out. It's all set up. I just need to get the cups, soup buckets and other things ready before I can open for business. You guys have to come and help me attract customers then."

"Of course there's no problem, but you didn't say a word. Ugh, you didn't even tell me. Sometimes it's just as good to leave Xiaonian at my house. You did everything by yourself; even an iron man couldn't do as well as you..."

Aunt Wang came out to buy soy sauce and overheard Aunt Zhong's rambling. She couldn't help but complain to Liang Guiying, "You're just too formal. You only call me family when you're delivering chickens to my house one by one."

Liang Guiying listened with a smile as the two finished complaining.

She told the two that she wanted to hire a few people: "I need a few young people, male or female, who must not smoke, as smoking is prohibited in my ice cream parlor. They must be hardworking and quick. I also need two older people, all of whom must be of good character and able to manage the business. The monthly salary is fifty yuan, accommodation provided, but meals not included."

"If business is good in the future, I will raise their salaries. If we open a branch, I will give priority to selecting store managers from among them... Aunt Zhong, Aunt Wang, if you have any suitable people, please recommend them to me. If you really can't, I will have to recruit from outside."

“How can you hire people from outside when you’re in the food business? You don’t even know who they are. What if they put something unclean in your soup pot?” Aunt Wang said. “Leave the hiring to Aunt Zhong and me… But, you’re just starting out, can you afford to hire so many people?”
