When they arrived at the canteen, they learned that Liang Guiying's family was not the only one who had come to accompany the army. There were ten other families who had arrived over the past few days. The canteen staff felt it was too much trouble to add dishes and entertain guests every day, so they decided to wait until the last family arrived before entertaining them all at once.
The last family is Liang Guiying's family.
This is the Northwest. A hundred kilometers or so further out are the Gobi Desert and the Gobi, where the wind and sand are strong and the air is very dry.
The canteen prepared a fairly abundant selection of dishes, with noodles as the staple food. The noodles were handmade and very chewy, but the other dishes were quite heavily seasoned, which was a considerable challenge for Liang Guiying, who was used to eating light flavors.
The family members came from all over the country and were not familiar with each other. Liang Guiying was not in a hurry to make friends with them. She just glanced around and remembered a few of the more prominent family members.
After a harmonious meal, Zhou Xiaonian held Liang Guiying's left hand and Zhou Yue's right hand, and walked happily towards the courtyard. When they passed the army store, Zhou Yue bought her a big bag of snacks, and Liang Guiying also bought a lot of things.
She originally wanted to buy some rice, but the convenience store didn't have any, so she bought two pounds of noodles and a small bag of flour, along with oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, and other similar items.
Zhou Yue got up at 5:30 the next day.
The kitchen light came on, and Liang Guiying was cutting cured meat there. Hearing the noise, she turned around and smiled, "It's not even dawn yet, why don't you sleep a little longer?"
"Get up and start training."
"Oh right, I forgot. This is the military, and you're a soldier now. What time will you be back? I'll make you some noodles when it's about time."
"About an hour."
"OK."
There was a small open space in front of the courtyard gate, overgrown with weeds. Liang Guiying felt it was a pity, and wondered if it could be used to grow vegetables.
Regardless of whether it was possible to plant it, Liang Guiying cleared away the weeds first.
Zhou Yue returned quickly, covered in sweat.
"I've boiled some water for you, so take a shower first. I bought some shampoo last night, so wash your hair while you're at it."
"good."
When Zhou Yue came out, Liang Guiying had already prepared the noodles. A large spoonful of stir-fried diced cured meat was piled on top of the white noodles, filling the room with the aroma of meat. Zhou Yue's stomach immediately started growling.
Zhou Yue finished the large bowl of noodles in no time, even drinking all the soup.
"Grandma Niannian, your cooking is so delicious," Zhou Yue said sincerely.
"I'll cook for you every day from now on," Liang Guiying said with a smile. "By the way, where's the market around here? Is it far from here?"
The camp is about a 20-minute drive from the nearest town. There are three buses a day: one at 8:00 AM, one at 2:00 PM, and the last one at 6:00 PM.
Liang Guiying planned to go to town every year when she got up to buy some necessities.
Speaking of this, Zhou Yue felt ashamed: "I'm sorry, I originally wanted to prepare earlier, but after I called you, I was temporarily transferred to another place and only came back yesterday. There wasn't enough time for anything. I'll arrange a car for you later and have the orderly accompany you and Niannian to the street."
Wow, Zhou Yue is so capable of arranging a car and even having an orderly accompany her when she goes out.
Around nine o'clock, the orderly arrived. She was a very young and energetic girl named Xiao Xu.
Xiao Xu smiled and said, "Aunt Guiying, the car will be here soon, don't worry."
