Chapter 5 New World Hotel 3

Chapter 5 New World Hotel 3

I tossed and turned all night.

With a terrible headache and something on his mind, Wang Ze couldn't sleep at all. As dawn broke, he jumped out of bed—after thinking about it all night, he finally decided to go to the hospital for a rabies vaccination.

When he went to the parking lot to get his electric scooter, two cleaners happened to be chatting there. "People these days are so wicked! I don't know who killed the cat before, and just left it here."

“It wasn’t killed by a person,” another person guessed. “It had scratches and bite marks on its body, so it must have been fighting for territory and died from its injuries.”

Wang Ze suddenly realized something.

He remembered the "ten-day observation method" the shop assistant had told him. It said that if the cat that bit him didn't die within ten days, it would be fine. If the cat died, it absolutely had to be vaccinated.

"What did the dead cat look like? When did it die?" Wang Ze asked urgently.

The cleaner was startled by his sudden interruption.

After racking his brains for a long time, he asked uncertainly, "It's been dead for about half a month? As for its color, was it an orange cat?"

“No, no,” another person corrected, “It’s not a pure orange cat, it’s orange and white, with a tuft of white fur on its neck.”

"Oh, really? I don't remember."

What did the cat that bit him look like? Wang Ze tried hard to recall, but too much time had passed and he could no longer remember.

I still need to go to the hospital.

Wang Ze hopped on his electric scooter and hurried away.

The cleaner was baffled. "The stray cat died, why is he so worried? It wasn't his pet."

Upon arriving at the hospital, the doctor said that seven injections of immunoglobulin plus the first rabies shot would cost approximately 1500 yuan. If he received all five rabies shots, the total would be 2700 yuan. "So expensive?!" Wang Ze exclaimed in surprise.

But the thought of the dead cat in the parking lot filled him with panic. Finally, he gritted his teeth and said, "Hit!"

While the doctor was dispensing the medication, Wang Zexin was bleeding. He began to regret ever provoking the cat.

After getting all the necessary shots, he finally felt relieved—he had the vaccine, he was safe, and there was definitely nothing wrong with him.

On the way back, Wang Ze was all smiles, and his spirits seemed to have improved.

Back at the hotel, upon seeing Tong Jia, he even went up to greet her, "Purchaser, I went to get vaccinated today!"

When Tong Jia saw Wang Ze, she couldn't quite describe her feelings and involuntarily took a step back. After a moment, she mumbled, "Oh, that's good."

After receiving the vaccine, Wang Ze felt as if he had received some kind of get-out-of-jail-free card and went to work happily.

Tong Jia watched his retreating figure, her heart filled with repulsion. Every cell in her body seemed to be telling her that she must stay away from this person.

Rest time.

Tong Jia pulled Yun Xin to a secluded corner and lowered her voice, "I just saw Wang Ze and noticed something was off about him. Did you already guess that?"

When they first met, Yunxin was recommended by the manager, which Tong Jia found quite objectionable.

Later, thanks to Yunxin calling her to leave, otherwise she would definitely have been hit by a car, Tong Jia felt a greater sense of closeness and trust in her heart.

After that, Tong Jia recounted the strange things that had happened to her. More than half a month passed, and no strange rumors circulated in the hotel.

Tong Jia increasingly felt that Yun Xin was tight-lipped, had good character, was a very good person, and spoke more freely.

"Huh? What's wrong with him?" Yun Xin tilted her head.

"Stop pretending." Tong Jia thought about it more and more and felt that her deduction was correct. "You must have known all along that the cat that scratched and bit them had a problem, which is why you advised Zhao Zechen to get a rabies vaccine."

"Wang Ze verbally agreed, but secretly went against his word, which is why it was late."

Yun Xin asked in confusion, "What happened to Wang Ze?"

"His eyes were lifeless, and he looked tired; he gave off a very bad impression," Tong Jia casually described.

Yunxin asked again, "Did you go to the hospital for a checkup and get diagnosed with rabies?"

Tong Jia, "...No, not at all."

Yun Xin looked up and asked, word by word, "Then why do you think there must be something wrong with the cats that scratched and bit them?"

Tong Jia was completely stunned. "What?"

"Didn't you realize it yourself? Your logic is very strange." Yun Xin analyzed seriously, "No one has been diagnosed, so why are you convinced that Wang Ze is sick? Then you deduce that the cat has a problem, and then you deduce that I knew about it all along."

Tong Jia opened her mouth, but couldn't utter a single word for a long time.

She had a feeling that her speculation was correct, but Yunxin's statement also seemed to be right.

So why were I so certain before?

"Is it possible," Yun Xin said slowly, "that the one with the keenest sixth sense isn't me, but you?"

“I was just being cautious and giving advice in a perfectly normal way. It’s because you’re so eager for a companion that you find my behavior suspicious.”

is that so?

Tong Jia was in a daze.

Logically speaking, there's no problem.

But a voice inside me kept shouting, "No, that's not how it is."

"I say, aren't you being too nervous?" Yun Xin said in a rather casual tone. "After the car accident, your physical abilities have improved, but have you become a superhero?"

"No," Tong Jia quickly shook her head.

“That’s it then, she’s still a normal human being.” Yun Xin asked again, “Women’s intuition is naturally strong. From childhood to adulthood, haven’t you ever met a girl like this before?”

This reminded Tong Jia of someone: "There was a female classmate in college, in the same year but different class, everyone called her 'the scumbag detector'."

"How exaggerated was it? The first time I met my roommate's boyfriend, she told her privately that she didn't have a good feeling about him."

"My roommate didn't believe it at first, but then her boyfriend cheated on her."

"Then another time, a classmate got a new boyfriend. She joked that she had a good eye for men and that I should let her meet him so he could help me vet him."

"When we met again, she didn't say anything, just shook her head. Her classmates thought she was deliberately causing trouble and got angry. Not long after, her boyfriend was exposed for cheating on her with several women, and that classmate wasn't the first one he had seduced."

In the end, Tong Jia began to doubt whether she was too nervous.

It turns out that there are such people in real life; she herself has met them, but she just didn't think of them at first.

"There are many things in the world that science can't explain. Having close contact with death can trigger a surge of potential, leading to a significant increase in physical abilities afterward. While I've never heard of such a thing before, it's not entirely outlandish," Yun Xin concluded.

Tong Jia hadn't said it, but she had been in a state of constant anxiety since the car accident. After talking with Yun Xin, she could clearly feel that her anxiety had lessened considerably.

It's as if the matter itself is perfectly normal, and it's just that she's making a fuss and that's why she's making herself anxious.

"Also, thank you for telling me that Wang Ze has a problem." Yun Xin thanked him sincerely. "Listen to advice and you'll eat your fill. I'm willing to listen to advice! I'll stay away from him in the future."

"Hmm..." Tong Jia felt something was off.

But what exactly was strange about it? She couldn't figure it out yet.

The next morning.

Wang Ze rubbed his eyes and struggled to get out of bed.

Since developing a low-grade fever, he has been sleeping poorly and has been experiencing frequent headaches.

After opening the medicine box on the bedside table and swallowing the pills with water, Wang Ze muttered, "I've been taking medicine for several days, why isn't my illness getting better?"

He put on his slippers and was about to go to the bathroom when suddenly his ankle felt itchy, numb, and painful, as if ants were crawling on it.

"What's biting me?" Wang Ze quickly pulled up his trouser leg.

There was nothing on my ankle, but I could still feel discomfort.

Wang Ze looked around for a while, then suddenly remembered that the stray cat had bitten him in this very area. He hadn't thought about it after the wound healed.

But now, the itchy, numb, and painful area seems to coincide with the wound area.

Wang Ze panicked immediately, "I've already been vaccinated, how come I still..."

"No, no, no," he said, then denied it again. "Maybe I pressed on it while sleeping, that's why my leg is numb."

As he spoke, he endured the numbness and pain and began to walk around the room.

However, no matter how long he walked, the numbness did not subside.

Wang Ze slumped into a chair and suddenly had a strong urge to smoke a cigarette.

During working hours, Zhao Zechen was focused on his work.

Wang Ze suddenly appeared from some obscure corner, grabbed his wrist, and asked, "Have you had your rabies vaccine?"

"I did get hit." Zhao Zechen got angry just thinking about it, his words laced with sarcasm. "What? You finally had a change of heart and are willing to pay my medical bills?"

Wang Ze hadn't slept well for days; his eyes were dark and he looked extremely haggard. His voice was hoarse as he pressed, "Where did you get the call?"

Zhao Zechen rolled his eyes inwardly, but seeing how pitiful he looked, he still gave the name of the hospital.

Wang Ze and I went to the same place.

Wang Ze then asked, "Did you feel unwell after receiving the vaccine?"

"Yes! My arms are sore and swollen, and I feel weak all over. I can't do any work, but I don't dare to ask for leave to rest. I also have to watch what I eat!" Zhao Zechen got angrier and angrier as he spoke, wishing he could grab Wang Ze by the collar and beat him up.

But he was a civilized man.

More importantly, fighting at the company could lead to being fired. So he suppressed his anger and only used words to condemn the act.

"That's it?" Wang Ze panicked.

The hospital is the same, and the brand of vaccine should be the same too. How come Zhao Zechen is acting like nothing happened, while he…

Is it really because the vaccine was administered too late?

"Isn't that enough?" Zhao Zechen suspected the other party was deliberately trying to cause trouble. "Are you even speaking human language? I've been dragged into this by you. I paid over two thousand yuan out of pocket for the vaccine, and you still think my reaction wasn't severe enough?"

"No, no..." Wang Ze became increasingly distraught, stumbling and disappearing in no time.

After holding it in for a long time, Zhao Zechen finally managed to utter a sentence: "This wasn't a cat bite, it was a zombie that ate your brain, wasn't it?"

Although Yunxin promised Tongjia that she would stay away from Wang Ze, their jobs didn't overlap, so it was quite difficult for them to run into each other.

For three consecutive days, Yunxin worked diligently and actively, striving to be an outstanding employee.

During her lunch break that day, she was sitting there, holding a drink, lost in thought, when a familiar feeling of palpitation washed over her.

Looking up, I saw a customer pulling back the curtains of the lobby's floor-to-ceiling windows. The sun was shining brightly outside, casting golden sunlight onto the floor and illuminating the room.

The next second, Wang Ze rushed to the window and quickly pulled the curtains shut.

"What are you doing?" the customer complained, and pulled the curtains open again.

"Don't open it!!" Wang Ze roared and pulled the curtains back up.

The customer laughed in exasperation, "I'm staying at your hotel, can't I even open the curtains and let the sun shine?"

What's even more outrageous is that there were no other customers around, so it didn't affect anyone else at all.

"No! We can't let the sunlight in." Wang Ze refused decisively.

customer,"???"

What kind of bizarre hotel is this? They won't even let you draw the curtains?

"I'll pull it anyway." The customer, stubborn as ever, argued with Wang Ze. "I don't believe it. There's even a hotel with a written rule against customers drawing the curtains."

"Where is your manager? Is there anyone in charge who can come forward and speak?"

As she spoke, she reached out and pulled at the curtains.

Wang Ze held on tightly, refusing to budge an inch.

The two men, one trying to open the curtains and the other trying to close them, were locked in a struggle, neither willing to give in.

Wang Ze hadn't slept well for several days, felt weak all over, and gradually became unable to keep up.

Just as the customer was about to laugh, Wang Ze suddenly pounced on him and bit the customer's hand hard.

The customer, in pain, released the food, exclaiming in shock, "Why did it bite?!"

The curtains were pulled open a little more. Sunlight streamed in through the gap, dappling the floor. Wang Ze looked frightened and quickly pulled the curtains back shut.

The customers were shocked, taking several steps back and shouting at the manager, Tong Jia, and security guards who rushed over, "Your hotel is secretly raising zombies?!"
