Chapter 22 The Mysterious Sacrifice Temple

Xu Guangzhi pulled Lan Xiaolan aside mysteriously and looked around to make sure no one was eavesdropping on him.

"I've seen these things somewhere before, but I'm not sure if they're the same as the ones in your photos."

"Come with me quietly." After saying that, he gave Ren Tingxi another fierce look: "But don't tell this guy, he's a bad guy."

Xu Guangzhi led them through the streets and alleys and came to an old house.

The house is located in the deepest part of Shimo Village, surrounded by dense forests and tranquil fields.

There is no hustle and bustle of the city here, only fresh air, birdsong, flowers and a peaceful atmosphere.

From a distance, the house looks like a mysterious castle hidden in the mountains and forests, surrounded by lush trees, giving people a feeling of isolation.

As you get closer, you will see that its architectural style is unique and ancient. The walls are made of thick stones and the roof is covered with dark green tiles, revealing a strong historical atmosphere.

There are no couplets or plaques in front of the door, and the door is ajar, as if inviting people to come in and take a look.

Xu Guangzhi gently pushed open the door, and a stale smell hit him in the face.

The room was dimly lit, and apart from two tall stone tablets standing in the middle, no special items could be seen.

"Wait for me here."

Xu Guangzhi lit an oil lamp and walked in slowly.

After a while, an elder and Xu Guangzhi came out of the dark house.

The old man's hair was completely white, gleaming faintly like silver threads.

Every strand of hair looks so soft, as if it would float away with a gentle breeze.

The old man with snow-white hair gives people a feeling of oldness and solemnity, as if he has experienced the baptism of countless years.

"Are you Lan Xiaolan? The archaeologist?" The old man looked at Lan Xiaolan with a kind look.

"Hello, old lady, this is my work ID." The old man looked at her work ID and examined it carefully.

"Aren't you Director Xu, a village committee official from Shimo Village? Hello, I'm Ren Tingxi. We've met before."

Ren Tingxi stretched out his hand, wanting to shake hands and say hello to Director Xu.

But Director Xu put his hands in his pockets, rolled his eyes at him, and had no intention of shaking hands with him.

Then Director Xu looked at Lan Xiaolan with gentle eyes and said, "Girl, please follow me."

Seeing Lan Xiaolan was about to go in, Ren Tingxi naturally followed. Xu Guangzhi pushed him out with one hand: "You are outside, you are not allowed to go in."

Ren Tingxi was a little angry. He pulled Lan Xiaolan's hand and stopped her from going in.

After all, this house is really old. Standing at the door and looking inside, the room is very dark and pitch black.

He was worried that Lan Xiaolan might be in danger if she went in.

Lan Xiaolan patted Ren Tingxi's hand and smiled quietly: "Wait for me here, don't worry, I'm fine."

As soon as you enter the door, you will see that the house is a quadrangle structure.

There is a gate in front. The house opposite the gate is not big and there is no excessive decoration. There are only two large stone tablets.

One of the stone tablets was filled with ancient characters, while the other was empty with nothing on it.

On the east and west sides of the courtyard are two small rooms. In the east room there is a large table with some fruits and utensils for offerings.

The door of the house on the west side was locked, and you couldn't see what was inside at all.

There is a big banyan tree planted in the middle of the courtyard. The banyan tree is tall and strong, and the branches at the top of the tree have covered the four sides of the house.

The lush banyan tree blocks all the sunlight that should enter the house, so the courtyard looks so dark and gloomy.

Lan Xiaolan walked up to the stone tablet and looked at the words carved on it carefully.

She covered her heart, unable to calm down due to the excitement.

Suddenly, she knelt down, bent her waist, and kowtowed three times in front of the stone tablet to show her respect.

Director Xu and Xu Guangzhi watched her every move.

Director Xu waved to Lan Xiaolan and asked her to follow him. They walked to the room with a locked door on the west side of the courtyard.

The door was opened and a musty smell rushed out of the room. It seemed that this was a place where few people came.

Director Xu walked to a shabby wooden box and carefully opened the lid.

"Look, aren't these the ones?" he said, pointing to the utensils in the box.

Lan Xiaolan took a closer look, a flicker of surprise in her eyes. It was a pile of ceramic plates and bowls. There were so many of them, and they were neatly stacked in the box.

The bowls were intricately carved with designs. She put on her gloves, took out one of the plates, and examined it carefully, sensing a strange energy emanating from it.

"This is exactly the same plate as in my photo!" Lan Xiaolan said excitedly.

These plates have been kept in the ancestral hall used for sacrifices in Shimo Village for thousands of years. Moreover, these porcelains are exactly the same as the artifacts unearthed from the ancient tombs excavated at the cross-river bridge.

This is the ironclad evidence that the ancestors of Shimo Village are inextricably linked to the ancient tombs of the cross-river bridge.

At this moment, she put away her excited expression and her face became serious.

"This may be the key clue for us to find the truth." she whispered.

"Director Xu, can I take a few photos here? I have to report this to the institute."

This is an ancestral hall used for sacrifices, where the Xu family in Shimo Village worships their ancestors.

Taking photos here may be a very impolite behavior to these ancestors.

Therefore, before obtaining evidence of these discoveries, she still needs to obtain Director Xu's consent.

"I swear here before the Gate of Gods that I took these photos only for archaeological purposes and I absolutely do not mean to offend anyone. Furthermore, I will never reveal what happened here to anyone other than the staff of our institute."

Lan Xiaolan raised three fingers and swore to the sky.

Director Xu looked at her sincere expression and remembered that she had knelt down and kowtowed to the stone tablet as soon as she entered the door, so he believed her words and agreed to let her take photos here to collect evidence.

Lan Xiaolan quickly took the photos, sorted out all the photos and notes she had, and sent them to Professor Bai.

After finishing all the work, Lan Xiaolan left with satisfaction.

As soon as she went out, she saw Ren Tingxi. He put his hands in his trouser pockets leisurely, leaned back slightly, and stood outside the door in a relaxed posture.

He was afraid that she might be in danger, so he waited outside the door and didn't leave.

"Is everything taken care of?"

"Yeah, yes. Thank you. If you hadn't brought me here, this wouldn't have gone so smoothly."

"Then how are you going to thank me?"

"How about I treat you to dinner tonight?"

"Just eating?"

"What else?"

"At least give me a kiss..."

"Get out! Hooligan!"
