Chapter 3: He never beat her in debate

Professor Bai saw Lan Xiaolan standing there motionless in a daze, and thought she was frightened by the meeting with so many people. After all, Professor Bai was very clear about her apprentice's unsociable personality.

But what Professor Bai didn't know was that Lan Xiaolan was not scared by everyone present, but by one person.

"She is Lan Xiaolan, a staff member of our institute. She was the one who conducted the on-site investigation yesterday." Professor Bai stood up and introduced.

"You said the cordon at the scene cannot be lifted. Have you made any new discoveries?" the leader continued to ask.

Lan Xiaolan took out her notebook and mobile phone from her backpack and showed them to everyone.

"Last night we unearthed the second and third coffins next to and above the first coffin respectively. Here are photos of what was found at the scene."

Everyone present was very surprised. They didn't expect that this inconspicuous girl would be digging the ancient tomb all night long, and now she found not one but three corpses.

Lan Xiaolan continued, "The second body has been fully recovered. It's also female, aged between 15 and 25. The third body's remains are still being excavated at the scene."

Although everyone is still quite surprised by the new discovery, based on the current situation, the owner of the tomb, who is such a young female skeleton, should not be an important historical figure.

The artifacts found in the second body were just two porcelain plates and two rotten wooden sticks.

The most distinctive feature is the ring made of Hetian jade.

However, such rings are also very common in the ancient tombs of ordinary people, so it cannot be compared with the cross-river bridge project worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

The leader looked at the photo handed over by Lan Xiaolan, and then looked at Ren Tingxi.

Wasn’t this kid very excited when he was arguing with Professor Bai just now? Why is he silent now?

The leader pointed at the photos and said, "That's all? These coffins, corpses, and these artifacts. Handing them over to the research institute for further study shouldn't be difficult, right?"

"If the construction site is closed, progress will be delayed, and the cross-river bridge cannot be completed smoothly before the economic and trade fair. The impact and losses caused to our city will be very serious."

"We can't lift the siege!" Lan Xiaolan said firmly, emphasizing her tone.

"These three bodies were not placed side by side, but in a triangle, and the distance between them was very neat. This may have been done intentionally."

"This is reminding us that this may not be just one or two ancient tombs, it is very likely a group of ancient tombs! And..." Lan Xiaolan walked to the leader's side, showed the photos of the skeletons of the first and second corpses, and enlarged them to look at them.

"The skeletons of the first two bodies were completely white in the head and limbs, while the bones in the throat, lungs, and abdomen were black and reddish-brown. Furthermore, some areas of the throat and abdomen had already developed crystals."

"Crystals are formed by minerals, and it is common for crystals to appear inside coffins. This doesn't mean anything." Another leader next to the leader also raised questions.

"But why didn't the crystals appear elsewhere, only in the throat and abdomen? And it wasn't just the first and second bodies that had this."

"Before we arrived, the upper torso of the third body had already been exhumed. Her throat and ribs were also revealed, blackened and crystallized. If all three bodies were like this, it definitely couldn't be a coincidence."

Professor Bai looked at the photos Lan Xiaolan brought and said, "It was poisoning. So, these bodies most likely died a violent death."

In this case, these young girls may have died of poisoning more than two thousand years ago. They were deliberately murdered and then buried neatly here.

So who are they? And who is so cruel as to poison these young girls in their prime?

Who is the owner of this tomb? What secrets are hidden in it that have not yet been discovered? Everything is still a mystery.

Lan Xiaolan stood up and straightened her body and said, "If the fence is lifted rashly, the construction workers will most likely cause damage to the ancient coffins that have not yet been discovered in the surrounding area."

Lan Xiaolan is usually not a talkative person because she spends most of her time in the research institute repairing cultural relics.

Even when she was working in the field, she would just quietly dig, record and organize. It was rare to see her speak as excitedly as she did today.

Lan Xiaolan continued, "Stopping construction will only delay the progress of the project. But if an ancient tomb from over 2,000 years ago is damaged, the consequences will be devastating."

"After all, the cross-river bridge project will still have a future, but the cultural relics sleeping underground can never go back to the past." Lan Xiaolan explained every word clearly in front of everyone, and her words were very sincere.

The leaders seemed to be persuaded by Lan Xiaolan and nodded, looking at each other. Finally, their eyes fell on Ren Tingxi, the chief designer and general manager of the project.

Ren Tingxi looked at the anxious and persistent Lan Xiaolan. Her serious look was still so heartbreaking and touching.

Ren Tingxi actually had ten thousand reasons to refute in his mind, but he had never won a debate in front of Lan Xiaolan.

Because she is Lan Xiaolan, the person who makes his heart beat all the time, so he can't win, won't win, and won't win.

Ren Tingxi clenched his fists and leaned towards the table.
