“At a time like this, Grandma doesn’t need your gift at all.” Shen Jingmo quickly caught up with Lu Zhiwei, trying to stop her.
He was afraid that time would run out.
"Grandma will like this gift. I can go back and get it myself. Don't follow me. I have something I want to ask you." Lu Zhiwei thought she had to get Shen Jingmo away first, so she spoke without hesitation.
Lu Zhiwei rarely asked him for favors, and Shen Jinmo was happy to oblige: "Go ahead."
“Go to Lu’s Group and ask An Yang to bring over a cheongsam that I designed and customized. I originally planned to give it to Grandma for her birthday this year, but I think Grandma would like to wear it one more time.”
"You're so thoughtful, but Lin Jing can handle this." Shen Jingmo wondered why she insisted that he make the trip himself.
"This is your grandmother, and you don't even have this much filial piety?" Lu Zhiwei retorted.
Speechless, Shen Jinmo could only agree: "Alright, I'll be right back. You too."
"Mm." Lu Zhiwei nodded.
The two parted ways and left.
I heard that the old lady is critically ill.
Song Hanzheng and Song Anran, a brother and sister who came all the way from Jiangzhou, also arrived at the sanatorium.
He watched as Lu Zhiwei hurriedly left.
Song Hanzheng watched her get into the car.
As Shen Jinmo was about to leave the parking lot, Song Anran approached him with a bouquet of flowers: "I've come to see Grandma."
The old woman is dying.
She should have come to see.
Shen Jinmo was busy fulfilling Lu Zhiwei's instructions and didn't pay attention to the two siblings. He pressed the elevator button and went downstairs.
Song Hanzheng was angered by Shen Jinmo's attitude: "Look at him, does he even respect you?"
Song Anran shrugged: "Let him be. Brother, go buy me something to eat. I'm hungry after traveling all this way. I'll go visit Grandma Shen first."
"good."
Song Anran sent Song Hanzheng away.
She entered the ward alone, carrying flowers.
The old woman lying in the hospital bed looked up and saw a strange woman walk in.
She had heard that Miss Song was constantly pestering Shen Jinmo, but she never asked about it and stayed in Cuizhu Garden, never seeing Song Anran even once.
"Grandma, I'm Song Anran. I brought you a bouquet of flowers. I wish you a speedy recovery." Song Anran presented the flowers to the old lady's bedside.
The old lady pointed to the side and told her to put the flowers down, her gaze falling on the slightly protruding belly of the woman.
Song Anran is thin, and with her loose dress, her belly isn't very noticeable, but she is clearly more than six months pregnant.
"Thank you," the old lady said simply.
"Just now outside the ward, I heard that your biggest regret was wanting to see your great-grandson. So, I brought your great-grandson to visit you." Song Anran stuck out her belly to make her pregnant belly more obvious.
The old lady's cold gaze fell on her belly. "Is this really my Mo'er's child?"
“Of course,” Song Anran said with a smile.
"I do hope to see a great-grandchild, but I hope it will be one born to Weiwei and my Mo'er. As for children born to other women, it makes no difference to me whether they are born or not." The old lady turned her face away, clearly disliking Song Anran.
Song Anran clenched her fingers tightly, a surge of barely suppressed anger rising within her.
"You're still as biased towards her as ever. What kind of spell did Lu Zhiwei cast on you to make you like her so much?" Song Anran sneered.
"She doesn't need to do anything to please me; she just needs to be herself, and I like that girl."
"So no matter how hard some people try, if you don't like them, you just won't like them?" Song Anran took a fruit knife and a pear from the bedside table and peeled them quickly with her head down.
Her peeling movements were skillful and her technique was unique. The space between her thumb and forefinger perfectly enveloped the entire pear, and the knife spun rapidly in her hand.
This subtle movement caused the old lady's expression to freeze.
A figure flashed through her mind.
The old lady removed the oxygen mask from her face and struggled to sit up in bed.
Song Anran suddenly realized something; habitual actions formed since childhood can be revealed unintentionally, and it would be difficult for her to change them.
He put away the knife and handed the peeled pear to the old lady: "With your teeth these days, can you still eat it?"
The old lady pulled the pear over and placed it on the bedside table, then grabbed Song Anran's hand and opened her palm.
The old lady knew how to read palms.
A person's palm lines cannot be changed.
Song Anran felt a little guilty and tried to pull her hand back.
Although the old lady was frail, she was still quite strong. She gripped her palm tightly, and her withered hand gently traced her nails.
The pale fingers have noticeable calluses on the fingertips and between the fingers, caused by holding a pen for a long time.
"Shuyuan..." the old lady suddenly called out to her.
An aged voice echoed in the ward.
It was like a ghostly wail, as if it were coming to claim a life.
Startled, Song Anran froze, then quickly pulled her hand away from the old lady's grasp: "Are you confused? My name is Song Anran, and I am the daughter of the Song family in Jiangzhou."
"Although I am old and my eyesight is failing, I am still very clear-headed. You are Shuyuan, the Shen family's daughter whom I picked up from the roadside. Shen Shuyuan." The old lady forcefully exposed her identity.
Song Anran's expression returned to calm. "Do I look that much like her? When the second young master of the Shen family first met me, he called me that too."
"Stop pretending. I've watched you grow up since you were a child. When you were little, I even held your hand and looked at your palm, and analyzed it for you. I told you that you shouldn't be too competitive, otherwise it would backfire and you would end up with nothing."
But you wouldn't listen. In order to become a genius in other people's eyes, you painted day and night.
