Lu Jingyao's desire to win over the eldest son of the Zhou family was not just talk; she was extremely serious about it this time.
I inquired with my friends in high society about the preferences and whereabouts of this young master of the Zhou family.
She then discovered that this young master of the Zhou family was elusive, and very few people in the industry had ever seen him; they couldn't even produce a single photo of him.
Even if she wanted to pursue him, she wouldn't know where to start.
In the end, Lu Jingyao set her sights on Zhou family's wife, Ruan Qin.
That morning, she wore a red one-shoulder dress, heavy makeup, and dressed herself up in a flamboyant manner.
He even spent a lot of money to buy a box of top-grade bird's nest and a century-old wild ginseng, in preparation for going out.
Lu Zhiwei happened to be off for the weekend, so she slept in and then busied herself in the kitchen.
Grandma said she wanted to try her cooking, so she had no choice but to embarrass herself by showing off her skills.
Several exquisite blue lunch boxes, engraved with the Lu Group logo, were placed on the kitchen counter. Lu Zhiwei had the maid bring them over; these were custom-made gifts from the group, and there were still some in stock at home, but no one usually used them.
Lu Jingyao followed the aroma to the kitchen door, but didn't step inside, afraid that the smell of cooking oil would ruin her noble demeanor as a socialite.
She was nothing like Lu Zhiwei, a beggar who scavenged for trash; she was a pampered young lady who had never lifted a finger since childhood.
"Are you going to the sanatorium today?" Lu Jingyao asked her, leaning against the door.
Lu Zhiwei, who was busy preparing the corn and shrimp rice, carefully plated it without even looking up: "Speak quickly if you have something to say, or shut up if you have something to say."
"Give me a ride. Both of our drivers are on leave today, and I can't drive," Lu Jingyao pleaded, her tone relatively gentle.
Lu Zhiwei glanced at the expensive gift she was carrying. "Is it for my grandmother? If so, I'll take you there."
Fearing that Lu Zhiwei would laugh at her for deliberately trying to please Madam Zhou, Lu Jingyao replied evasively, "I suppose so."
At worst, she could prepare another box of inferior bird's nest.
Anyway, her maternal grandmother was a countrywoman, and she was a homeless person, so she couldn't tell good from bad.
After parking the car, Lu Zhiwei got out of the car carrying a lunchbox.
Looking at the vast and magnificent high-end sanatorium in front of her, Lu Jingyao felt a little dizzy. She didn't know which floor Madam Zhou was staying on, so she had to go to the front desk to ask.
Following Lu Zhiwei's footsteps, we entered a sanatorium and inpatient building and arrived at the elevator.
The elevator doors came up from the basement level.
It opened with a ding.
There were three people standing inside.
Lu Zhiwei spotted Zhou Yan standing in the middle at a glance. His hairstyle was impeccable today, and his short hair made him look much more energetic. He was also wearing sunglasses, which, perched on his high nose bridge, added a touch of mystery to him.
Lu Zhiwei was about to step inside when Lu Jingyao grabbed her sleeve, glanced disdainfully at Zhou Yan in the elevator, and said in what she thought was a soft voice, "Let's take the next elevator. This guy is so ugly. I can't stand being in an elevator with someone like that."
Zhou Yanfei, feeling rejected, pursed his thin lips, his face showing little change in expression. In contrast, the two people beside him almost simultaneously revealed their fierce glints.
Lu Zhiwei cursed Lu Jingyao as an idiot in her heart.
Shaking off Lu Jingyao's hand, Lu Zhiwei walked straight into the elevator.
Lu Jingyao watched her go in, and had no choice but to suppress her disgust and follow her in, but she stood far away, trying to stay as far away from Zhou Yan as possible.
"Have you had lunch?" Lu Zhiwei asked him, looking up at him.
"No." Zhou Yan smiled slightly.
The man and woman standing nearby stared wide-eyed.
When has this ancestor of theirs ever accepted a woman's advances?
“I’m bringing lunch to my grandma. I made a lot, so I’ll share one with you.” Lu Zhiwei always felt sorry for him and thought he wasn’t getting enough to eat.
She handed him a blue lunchbox from the insulated bag in her hand.
The woman behind him was about to speak.
Zhou Yan glanced at the woman with a sharp look, signaling her to be quiet.
He then took the lunchbox with both hands, holding it carefully in his palms, the warm lunchbox providing a comforting warmth to his hands.
Lu Jingyao turned her head and looked at Lu Zhiwei and that ugly woman with disdain: "Do you know why she was so kind as to give you a box of food? It's because she used to be a beggar on the street. When she was overflowing with compassion, she couldn't bear to let the stray cats and dogs on the street go hungry."
Lu Zhiwei really wanted to slap Lu Jingyao out of the house.
The elevator doors suddenly opened and stopped on the third floor.
"You'll get beaten to death sooner or later with that mouth of yours." Lu Zhiwei grabbed Lu Jingyao and pulled her out, not wanting her to embarrass herself in the elevator.
Zhou Yan, still inside the elevator, held the lunchbox in his hands, examining it intently, and murmured softly, "I see."
As she passed the service counter, Lu Jingyao suddenly stopped. "Please take this box of bird's nest to your grandmother for me. I won't go in."
Lu Zhiwei glanced at the two more valuable boxes of bird's nest and wild ginseng in her hand and instantly understood.
Visiting her grandmother was just an excuse; her real purpose for the trip was to please someone else.
Instead of confronting her directly, Lu Zhiwei shook her head, chuckled softly, and carried the food box into her grandmother's hospital room.
Upon entering the ward, I saw that the room was in complete disarray, and the old lady seemed to be looking for something.
"Weiwei, it's all Grandma's fault. She insisted on airing out the quilts. The notebook you left on the bed seems to be missing. I asked around, but no one said they had found it." The old lady looked worried and full of guilt when she saw her.
Lu Zhiwei pressed the old lady into the dining chair: "That notebook is no longer needed. If we can't find it, so be it. Please eat first."
"Really not important? You're not just trying to comfort Grandma, are you?" The old lady was skeptical and still had no appetite.
