Unexpected Incident #004: My Gossipy Best Friend is a Bit Unpredictable
Once in the car, Gu Mingxia immediately started the engine and drove straight to Liu Yan before stopping. Gu Mingxia leaned back in her seat, her delicate face still showing signs of shock.
With her eyes closed, Gu Mingxia's thoughts drifted back to seven years ago, a memory she didn't want to dream about even in her dreams.
That year, to celebrate her university graduation, Xiao Yan took her and her younger brother Gu Mingdong to climb Mount Tai. The three of them played so much that they forgot about time, and by the time they were ready to descend the mountain, it was already getting dark.
Unfortunately, they chose a rarely used route up and down the mountain, so the three of them had to quicken their pace. However, when they reached the halfway point, a torrential downpour began, and the mountain path became slippery.
Xiao Yan led Gu Mingxia and Gu Mingdong, the siblings, down the slope step by step. He thought the summer downpour would stop soon, but the rain showed no signs of stopping.
But Xiao Yan walked steadily with every step. When they were about two-thirds of the way down the mountain, Gu Mingdong slipped and fell down, taking Gu Mingxia and Xiao Yan with her.
The hillside was very steep. Gu Mingxia was stopped by a rock as she rolled down, but Xiao Yan and Gu Mingdong were not so lucky. The two of them quickly rolled down the hillside.
Amidst flashes of lightning and thunder, Gu Mingxia watched the two people tumbling down the road, gritted her teeth, and stumbled down the slope, supporting herself on her sprained ankle.
By the time Gu Mingxia arrived at the foot of the mountain, it was already midnight. Xiao Yan and Gu Mingdong were lying on the ground, hand in hand, with large raindrops pelting them, and bright red blood flowing on the ground.
Gu Mingxia squatted down and checked the injuries of the two people. She found that Gu Mingdong had suffered a severe head injury and was bleeding profusely, while Xiao Yan's injury was less serious.
With the wind and rain raging and no phone signal, Gu Mingxia hesitated only slightly before pulling Xiao Yan behind a rock sheltered from the rain, and then carrying her younger brother on her back despite her swollen ankle.
Finally, just before dawn, they arrived at the roadside. Gu Mingxia immediately called for an ambulance. After watching her younger brother get into the ambulance, she immediately led a group to search for Xiao Yan in the mountains. However, when she arrived, all that remained behind the rock where Xiao Yan had been placed was a mess of scattered pieces of clothing and bright red bloodstains.
Afterwards, both the Gu family and the police did their best to search for Xiao Yan, but to no avail. Subsequently, Gu Mingxia used the Gu family's resources to search for him for another three years, but still without success. At this point, Xiao Yan completely disappeared from her world, and everyone was convinced that he had surely died at the foot of the mountain at the hands of wild animals.
Whenever Gu Mingxia thinks about this, she feels guilty towards Xiao Yan. Although it was an accident, Xiao Yan disappeared because he was accompanying her on the mountain climb.
Gu Mingxia closed her eyes tightly, her long eyelashes trembling. Her hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, her heart pounding. She took a few deep breaths and forced herself to regain her composure.
When Gu Mingxia opened her eyes again, she had regained her composure. Grabbing her handbag, she quickly got out of the car and strode towards the waiting bar in her three-inch heels. As she pushed open the door, she saw Liu Yan lying on the bar counter, her white flesh exposed.
"Oh, I thought you were enjoying some romantic time and weren't coming!"
"Your bar is opening today, of course I'll come!" Gu Mingxia stood outside the bar, looking at Liu Yan's long, wine-red hair gleaming under the lights. "What do you know?"
Liu Yan didn't say anything, but gave her an ambiguous smile, turned around and swayed her serpentine waist as she walked inside. After a while, she took a brown envelope and placed it on the bar.
"Here it is!" Liu Yan lit a cigar, took a puff, exhaled a smoke ring, and looked at the pale-faced Gu Mingxia with seductive eyes.
"Life's been boring. I was just looking to dig up some gossip about the rich and powerful for fun, but I never expected to find something about you, my dear lady. The photos are all here. You can decide what to do with them!"
Clutching the envelope tightly, Gu Mingxia's face was pale, her eyes flashing with hatred. Liu Yan leaned on the bar, a wicked smile on her face.
"Xiaxia, to be honest, these twin brothers look pretty good! Why don't you just divorce your scumbag and take them in?"
Trash? Indeed, Bai Zixuan's actions today, according to the popular internet terminology, certainly qualify him as trash!
From the very beginning, Liu Yan disapproved of Gu Mingxia leaving her family to marry Bai Zixuan, who had nothing. According to her, how could someone who couldn't even afford basic necessities talk about love? Even if you struggled with him until you had enough to eat, he might be the first person he would want to replace, the wife who had already become a haggard old woman!
Gu Mingxia put down the envelope, picked up a water glass, took a few big gulps of water, then put the glass down and stared at Liu Yan with wide eyes.
"I ran into Xiao Yan when I arrived!"
"So what if we run into each other? We run into a lot of people every day!" Liu Yan exhaled a smoke ring with a nonchalant air, leaning on the bar with a dazed look in her eyes. Suddenly, she threw her cigar into the ashtray, staring at Gu Mingxia in disbelief with her big eyes covered in black eyeshadow.
Who did you see?
"Xiao Yan!"
Compared to Liu Yan's surprise, Gu Mingxia had already regained her composure. Her life was already a mess, so how much worse could it get with Xiao Yan's arrival?
"Xiao Yan? Didn't he die seven years ago? Xia Xia, are you seeing things? Or is his ghost coming to claim your life...?"
I shook my head. Having a super gossipy and unreliable best friend is such a terrible thing!
Gu Mingxia took a large red envelope from her handbag and placed it on the bar. She glanced at Liu Yan and walked out without saying a word.
"Hey, Xiaxia, I was just kidding. You're not so bad, are you? Besides, even if Xiao Yan really came back to life, he wouldn't hurt you!"
"Liu Yan!" Gu Mingxia glared at her as she turned around. Liu Yan immediately made a zipper gesture with her hand over her mouth, and only then did Gu Mingxia turn around and continue walking out.
"Bai Zixuan gave me such a generous gift, wouldn't it be a shame not to do something in return for his good intentions?"
Gu Mingxia's tone held a hint of amusement, but Liu Yan, who knew her well, knew that the more Gu Mingxia smiled when she spoke to you, the angrier she was!
She hadn't seen her like this in seven years! She began to anticipate what tragic fate awaited Bai Zixuan; the thought alone was thrilling!
"Xiaxia, remember to call me when there's something exciting going on, you know I always love gossip..."
