Chapter 103 Dangerous Weathervane

Mu Wanting finished the yellow soup in the water bag and felt her body full of strength. She tied Aunt Liu to her back and crossed the makeshift bridge by holding onto the support.

Aunt Liu struggled a few times, and Mu Wanting said, "Aunt, are you really comfortable entrusting your child to us? Of course, we are all brothers and sisters, and we will certainly take care of him, but we can never compare to your own mother."

"You clearly had a chance to live."

Aunt Liu stopped struggling, but kept trembling. Finally, she lay on Mu Wanting's back, unable to bear looking anymore.

Mu Wanting couldn't help but laugh, and for some reason, she found Aunt Liu rather cute.

When they arrived, Aunt Liu's face was still pale, her fingertips were trembling, and she looked like she was still in shock.

Shen Yuru thanked Mu Wanting, her eyes red-rimmed.

"Thank you, sister-in-law. My mother has always been afraid of water and heights. If it weren't for you, we really wouldn't know what to do."

The other two sons also thanked her; they had both thought they were going to lose their mother.

Mu Wanting waved her hand: "It's nothing, we're all family."

Shen Yuru paused for a moment before nodding.

There were still some convicts on the other side of the bridge who hadn't come over. The officials tried to drive them away with whips, but in their haste, they lost their footing and fell into the water, where they died.

No one dared to look anymore, and the women of Aunt Liu's household were even more grateful to Mu Wanting.

Murong Rong was limping and unbalanced, so she was carried by a guard.

Shen Yujiao snorted coldly.

"If you think it's difficult to walk, then go back. Aren't you annoyed by following us around like this?"

After experiencing so much, she completely hated Murong Rong.

Many times, Murong Rong looked on as if she were watching the third wife's family make a fool of themselves. Even though she didn't end up seeing them make a fool of themselves, she still disliked this kind of scheming.

Murong Rong said, "I am with my husband."

Shen Yujiao became even more sarcastic.

"Don't you realize that he treats you like his wife? The more you follow him, the more Zhao Zhiyuan will dislike you."

Murong Rong looked again and saw Zhao Zhiyuan in front of her, cautiously watching Mu Wanting.

Murong Rong was furious. Along the way, she had thought countless times that it would have been better if she hadn't been forced into a marriage exchange with Mu Wanting.

Zhao Zhiyuan already has Mu Wanting in his heart, so what difference would it make if she changed her mind?

Originally, she didn't have to be exiled, but Zhao Zhiyuan, that stubborn fellow, actually followed Mu Wanting here. If she didn't come along, what would happen if Mu Wanting kept Zhao Zhiyuan firmly under her control?

The Marquis's mansion would not welcome her either, believing that it was her insistence on a marriage exchange that had driven Zhao Zhiyuan away.

But once she was exiled with them, her arranged marriage became even more meaningless; they ended up in the same place anyway.

After the convicts crossed the bridge, no one waited for Murong Rong and her companions; they left immediately.

The guards struggled to carry Murong Rong, who angrily cursed twice.

"How could you be so stupid? Can't you hurry up?"

The guard looked restrained, and Cui Liu reminded him in a very low voice.

"Second Miss, please stop scolding. These guards are all very good. They even followed you when you didn't receive your monthly salary."

As a result, Murong Rong slapped her, and Cui Liu, with red eyes, dared not try to persuade her anymore.

Mu Wanting's face also turned ugly, and she slapped her across the face.

"You bitch, dare to say another word."

Cui Liu's eyes reddened with grievance, and she dared not say another word.

When the time came, Mu Wanting glanced at her from afar, then looked away as if she had seen something dirty.

On Mu Wanting's side, however, the atmosphere remained harmonious. The third branch of the family, along with Aunt Liu, surrounded her as they walked and whittled wooden spears.

Shen Yujiao was puzzled: "Sister-in-law, why are you making a wooden spear out of nowhere?"

Mu Wanting said, "Now that we're on the battlefield, we don't have many weapons, so we should make some for self-defense."

Aunt Liu's room was quiet and peaceful as she made the preparations, without asking any questions.

After catching up, Murong Rong mocked Mu Wanting.

"If it really is the Xiongnu, all these things of yours will be of no use."

Mu Wanting chuckled but didn't say anything.

Shen Yujiao and Murong Rong are now completely at odds.

"It's better than not preparing anything and having a limp."

"Don't worry, someone like you, when the Xiongnu come, you will be the first person they deal with."

Murong Rong retorted angrily, "I have guards."

Shen Yujiao scoffed: "In our family of military generals, every single one of our martial arts experts is a top-notch master."

Murong Rong was completely defeated and spent the whole day venting her anger on the guards and maids, but they all held back and didn't retaliate.

Shen Mingjiao sighed.

"I really don't know how I could have thought Murong Rong was so good before. I was just too young and couldn't even judge people properly."

Mu Wanting rubbed her head.

"Take it." Aunt Liu's cold voice rang out.

When Mu Wanting looked, Aunt Liu had whittled an arrow for her.

Mu Wanting smiled and thanked her.

The people in Aunt Liu's family were all sharpening arrows. Shen Yuru smiled and said, "Sister-in-law, my aunt said you have hidden arrows that you can use."

As for the wooden spears, Aunt Liu's family had already whittled them all. After they finished whittling, they didn't make any more wooden spears except for whittling arrows.

She gave Shen Yuru some pastries and fabric, asking them to buy some clothes for Aunt Liu's family, as their clothes were already very worn out.

Not long after, Shen Yuru returned the fabric.

“My aunt said she would accept the pastries, but the fabric was unnecessary.”

Mu Wanting was both amused and exasperated. To be honest, she was no longer sure what kind of person Aunt Liu was.

When it was Aunt Liu's turn to cook lunch, Madam Shen asked Shen Yujiao to help, but Shen Yujiao was sent back.
