Chapter 37: Pursuing Her Relentlessly
As night falls, the evenings in late autumn are always short. The setting sun sets, the night sky covers the entire street, the dotted street lights emit bright lights, and the streets are bustling with traffic.
Xu Xian looked up from his phone and watched the car driving outward from the city center. He knew that the old house was most likely located in a secluded suburb.
"How much longer will it take?"
Traffic was congested during the evening rush hour, and she felt like she had been driving for at least half an hour.
"About twenty minutes." There was a red light ahead, and Jiang Shibai put one hand on the steering wheel and answered lightly.
Xu Xian caught a glimpse of something unusual on the back of his hand. A silver halo was particularly obvious under the light. He looked closely and found that it was a ring. The style was elegant and simple, with a very small white diamond inlaid on it.
Jiang Shibai noticed her gaze, raised his eyebrows slightly, and reached out to the storage compartment between the driver's seat and the passenger seat to take out a red velvet box.
"Our wedding rings."
The man opened the ring box with one hand. On the black holder lay a ring similar to the one on his left ring finger. It was obvious at a glance that they were the same pair, with the same width and design of the ring. The difference was that there were more than a dozen white diamonds on this one, completely occupying half of the ring.
Xu Xian stared at the wedding ring and instantly understood what he meant. It was impossible for them to get married without even a ring. It would be easy to be exposed if they went to the old house bare hands.
"When did you prepare it? How come I didn't know about it?" Xu Xian took the box, took off the ring and put it on the ring finger of his left hand. The size was perfect. No one knew how he got the circumference of her ring finger.
The radiant ring is particularly dazzling on the white knuckles, echoing the pink diamond bracelet.
"Do you like it?" Jiang Shibai ignored her question and started the car.
Xu Xian studied it for two seconds and gave an affirmative answer, "I like it! It suits my aesthetic."
She doesn't like things that are too fancy, and this ring completely touched her heart, it's simple and beautiful.
Jiang Shibai raised his thin lips when he heard this, glanced at the wedding ring on his ring finger, and felt secretly proud.
Her words of love were worth the whole night of drawing he had spent.
In the dark night, the car drove into an ancient and elegant garden with mountains, rivers, pavilions and terraces. It covered a large area. It took more than a minute to drive from the main gate to the house with carved beams and painted rafters.
It wasn't until the car stopped at the gate of the house that Xu Xian looked at the towering reddish-brown gate and felt for the first time that she had never seen the world.
"Is your old house the residence of some prince?" She blinked her eyes and asked sincerely.
Jiang Shibai paused as he unbuckled his seatbelt and chuckled, "Grandma built this garden because she liked old-fashioned architecture and style."
Xu Xian was speechless. Rich people were indeed arrogant. They could build a valuable garden at will, especially in the city of Haishi where every inch of land was worth a lot of money.
When Jiang Shibai was with her on weekdays, she didn't tell at all that his family was rich enough to build a garden, which led Xu Xian to think that the old house he mentioned was more like a villa in a TV drama.
After the two got out of the car, the family's driver drove the car to the parking lot. They stepped over the gate and walked along the corridor. There was a new scene with almost every step, which was even more exquisite and elegant than the outside.
However, the interior decoration is no different from the modern style, except that the furniture is mainly made of mahogany, elegant landscape paintings are hung on the walls, and some antique vases or jade ornaments are placed on the antique shelves.
Aunt Liu was the first to notice the two of them and hurried over to greet them. She looked at Xu Xian with a smile and nodded secretly. Sure enough, he looked exactly like in the photo, very graceful and elegant.
"Master, Madam."
It was the first time that Xu Xian heard such a grand address. She suppressed the discomfort in her heart and tried not to let others notice her abnormality.
"This is Aunt Liu from our family. She is responsible for taking care of grandma and has watched me grow up since I was a child." Jiang Shibai handed the gift to the servant beside him and introduced her.
"Hello, Aunt Liu." Xu Xian greeted with a smile.
Before Aunt Liu could say anything, she heard an old voice coming from not far away. It sounded full of energy and said, "Is my granddaughter-in-law here?"
As soon as he finished speaking, an old man in a dark red cheongsam came over, supported by a fairy-like young woman, and behind them was a middle-aged man and woman.
Jiang Shibai naturally held Xu Xian's hand and walked over, standing in front of everyone. She would almost call him a name whenever he called her.
When he heard the word "Mom", Xu Xian felt that he should not lose his manners in front of the old lady, so he did not follow Jiang Shibai's original intention and also called her "Mom".
This sound made Wen Tingyun's face stiffen and she felt a little awkward, but she didn't dare to be too presumptuous in the old house, so she just said "hmm" indifferently.
Jiang Yanfeng, who had been looking serious all the time, knew that his wife was still dissatisfied with Xu Xian. He secretly pulled her wrist, signaling her not to make too much trouble.
Old Madam Jiang was very satisfied with Xu Xian. He was polite, knew when to advance and retreat, had clear eyes, and was graceful and elegant.
She was a little surprised when she heard Xu Xian call Wen Tingyun. Her grandson had already told everyone in the family about what happened yesterday, saying that his mother was not happy with Xu Xian and asked her to call her auntie, so she could use that name from now on.
I also talked about Xu Xian's family situation with my family and asked them not to rub salt into the girl's heart. Unexpectedly, the girl was sensible.
Xu Xian had no idea that Jiang Shibai's kindness almost betrayed her.
Without saying a few words, Madam Jiang had already taken Xu Xian's hand affectionately, pushed Jiang Shibai away, and took her to sit on the sofa.
"Xianxian, how old are you this year?" Out of respect, Mrs. Jiang did not investigate Xu Xian's information. As for Jiang Shibai, she didn't tell her family much of her basic information.
Facing the old woman, Xu Xian's voice softened unconsciously, "Grandma, I'm twenty-five years old."
"Then he is four years younger than Shi Bai, so the age is just right." Jiang Shixin said with a smile.
It was obvious that she was raised in a pampered environment, like a soft white moonlight. You couldn't tell at all that she was already a mother. Her eyes were full of curiosity about Xu Xian.
"You two got married quite suddenly. How did you meet? Who pursued who?"
Xu Xian couldn't say that she and Jiang Shibai met in the car, so she could only look at him for help while he was peeling an orange.
Jiang Shibai seemed to have eyes on his head, and said indifferently: "Of course I fell in love with her at first sight, and I pursued her relentlessly."
He dodged the first question.
