Chapter 196 Irreconcilable
Just as Shen Yuexi said, Doctor Hua is a good doctor for treating arrow wounds.
What had troubled the two doctors before was now a piece of cake for Doctor Hua. In less than half an hour, he had removed all the arrows from Xiliang King Mei Cheng.
Inside the room, Xiao Zhuo, Shen Yuexi, and Mei Pu watched the entire process of retrieving the arrow. Shen Yuexi and Xiao Zhuo had long known about Doctor Hua's skills, but Mei Pu was seeing it for the first time and nodded frequently.
After applying the medicine to Mei Cheng, Doctor Hua instructed, "Your Highness, I have already taken care of those two arrow wounds. However, the arrowheads used by the Western Rong people are special, so you will need to rest for a month to fully heal."
"Thank you, Doctor Hua, on behalf of the king." Mei Cheng signaled Mei Pu with his eyes. Mei Pu immediately called his servants to reward Doctor Hua.
Doctor Hua was washing the blood off his hands in a basin when he declined, "Your Highness, there's no need for reward. You saved my entire family back at Baixiu Mountain. This time, I'm simply repaying your kindness."
Meipu insisted that Dr. Hua accept it, but Dr. Hua refused.
Shen Yuexi smiled and said, "Doctor Hua, you're welcome."
Doctor Hua repeatedly refused, packed up his medicine box, and said to Mei Cheng, "Your Highness, do not get angry until the wound heals. If it ruptures, even I will be powerless to save you."
Mei Cheng nodded and said, "Doctor Hua is so noble. I am unable to see him off. Pu'er will do this on my behalf."
Shen Yuexi stopped him and said, "Prince Mei, the prince still needs someone to take care of him. I'll take Doctor Hua out."
Mei Pu thanked him and stayed with Xiao Zhuo.
Shen Yuexi accompanied Doctor Hua out of the room where the King of Xiliang was and walked towards the backyard of the prefectural mansion.
Xiao Zhuo drove away the Xirong people and rescued the Xiliang King and his son. She thought the result was perfect. She joked to Doctor Hua:
"Doctor Hua, the prince gave you so much silver, why didn't you accept it? When your son Hua Duoduo first started practicing medicine, he asked me for ten taels of silver as a consultation fee."
Doctor Hua already knew that his son had dealt with Shen Yuexi. He chuckled and said, "My son is a bit disappointing. He loves money and is a liar, but he is good to his family. Since ancient times, no one is perfect. I am content. As for the reward from the King of Xiliang, I am not a greedy person. If it weren't for Prince Mei who saved my family, I would not have wanted to treat the King of Xiliang's injuries."
Shen Yuexi recalled that she saw the battlefield where the two sides were fighting on the road. At that time, Doctor Hua saw that there was no mercy for the many dead soldiers, and he expressed his dissatisfaction to the King of Xiliang.
Doctors have a kind heart. Dr. Hua and his son are both kind people.
After sending Doctor Hua to a room in the backyard to rest, Shen Yuexi stopped by to check on Madam Li and Li Wan. Both were disgruntled with Mei Pu, having never visited the Prince of Xiliang and his son. Thankfully, Mei Pu had promised not to embarrass them, and Shen Yuexi felt relieved.
She returned to the front yard and went to the room where King Xiliang was to find Xiao Zhuo.
Entering the room, the King of Xiliang was talking to Xiao Zhuo and Mei Pu. Shen Yuexi didn't want to disturb them, so she stood quietly beside Xiao Zhuo.
"...It turns out that it was Xiao Kai who caused my son to become like this. My Mei family and Jingzhou will never reconcile." Mei Cheng said hatefully.
Mei Pu comforted him, "Father, Doctor Hua has instructed us not to get angry. My child's matter is trivial."
"Now that the Western Rong have retreated, Your Highness the Crown Prince and Pu'er will temporarily command the army and defend Zhangwu." Mei Cheng said to Xiao Zhuo, "When this prince recovers from his injuries, we will return to Yongwei together."
Xiao Zhuo said, "Your Highness, please recover from your injuries first. Leave the rest to me and Prince Mei."
"Oh, Pu'er," Mei Cheng turned to look at Mei Pu, "The Jingzhou army attacked Yongwei. Didn't the princess and the others escape? Where are they now?"
Shen Yuexi remembered that the people in the palace ran faster than her, but she didn't know why they hadn't reached Zhangwu yet.
"Don't worry, father. My mother is safe and sound. The news is that her car broke down on the way, and repairs are taking some time," said Mep. "She will arrive tomorrow or the day after tomorrow."
"Oh, women are troublesome. It's more important to escape, but they can't bear to abandon their car..."
Mei Cheng complained a few words, then turned to see Shen Yuexi standing next to Xiao Zhuo. He laughed dryly and said, "Don't worry, Crown Princess. It was me who spoke without thinking."
Shen Yuexi actually felt that the King of Xiliang was right. Right now was a chaotic time, and the roads weren't so safe. Wasting time was indeed unwise.
She and Xiao Zhuo bid farewell to King Xiliang and returned to their own room in the backyard to rest.
The chicken soup had already gone completely cold. Shen Yuexi reheated it, but it still didn't seem quite as good. If it wasn't eaten after it was cooked, reheating it would be considered leftovers. Xiao Zhuo had fought so hard, how could he be given leftovers?
She wanted to refuse Xiao Zhuo the drink, but he refused, saying, "I don't care. I like anything Yue Xi cooks."
Shen Yuexi had no choice but to serve it to him.
After dinner, she smiled and sat on Xiao Zhuo's lap, jokingly saying, "When did Your Highness learn to speak sweet words?"
This wasn't the case when I first met Xiao Zhuo. Back then, he had a sinister look on his face, scaring people away.
Xiao Zhuo put his arm around her waist and said seriously, "As a prince, you need to be both civil and martial, and naturally you should be familiar with sweet talk. It's just that I have never been able to use it until I met Qingqing."
As he spoke, Xiao Zhuo's hand had already touched her chest.
Shen Yuexi glared at him.
"Yuexi, aren't your husband's feelings clear enough?" Xiao Zhuo immediately put his hand down obediently.
"I know you're wholeheartedly devoted. But the war is intense right now, and your husband is still here, brooding over his love." Shen Yuexi held up a finger. "The Jingzhou army of 200,000 has occupied Yongwei. Will they stop there?"
"This is one of them." Xiao Zhuo nodded in agreement.
"Even though the Xirong have retreated, will they come back?"
"Well, two fingers."
"Xiao Beiheng's 50,000 Dingbei troops are lurking in the east, this is the third item."
Shen Yuexi extended her third finger, put them together, and tapped Xiao Zhuo's forehead: "There are so many things going on. Solve them for me quickly. Don't let your wife worry all day long."
"Can't I have sex with my wife until this matter is resolved?" Xiao Zhuo gently held her fingers. "I have been waiting for a long time."
As he spoke, Xiao Zhuo stood up and carried Shen Yuexi to the bed: "It's getting late, let's go to bed."
"You can sleep, but no touching."
"Yes, sir."
…
Two days passed, and on the third day, the Xiliang Palace's convoy still hadn't arrived. Shen Yuexi vaguely sensed something was amiss, so she and Xiao Zhuo went to look for Mei Pu. Arriving at the prefect's residence, they were informed by servants that Mei Pu had personally led a cavalry detachment to look for them.
Mei Cheng said to Xiao Zhuo, "Your Highness, the Crown Prince is concerned. I was unable to leave, so Pu'er led the troops to fetch me."
As they were talking, Zhang Song came to see the King of Xiliang. He said that the Jingzhou army had captured Yongwei, and the King of Jing's son, the general Xiao Kai, sent a gift to the King of Xiliang and his son.
Shen Yuexi thought to herself: This Xiao Kai is also very different. He occupied other people's cities, did such a thing, and even gave gifts.
"You are so rude. You seized my city and still acted like a hypocrite by throwing away the gift!" Mei Cheng ordered Zhang Song to throw away the gift.
Zhang Song said in embarrassment, "Your Highness, the envoy from Jingzhou specifically said that if the King of Xiliang loses this gift, he will definitely regret it. He must see it."
Mei Chengdao said, "It's a joke. Who does he think I am? He orders me around like that."
Zhang Song did not dare to disobey and had to leave.
Zhang Song had just left when Mei Pu rushed in and said to Mei Cheng, "Father, I led the cavalry in the direction of Yongwei, but couldn't find Mother. Later, I found a passerby and learned that Mother and her companions were overtaken by the Jingzhou cavalry and taken back."
"What?" Mei Cheng was horrified. He supported himself on the bed and sat up, shouting, "Zhang Song, Zhang Song!"
Zhang Song had not gone far. When he heard the King of Xiliang calling him, he hurried back.
"Bring the gift from Jingzhou quickly." Mei Cheng raised his hand and pointed at him.
Zhang Song didn't know why the King of Xiliang was so excited, so he turned around and ordered the soldiers waiting in the courtyard to bring the gifts into the house.
The gift was simple, just a red package.
Meipu ordered the package to be placed on the table, and then he drew his sword and opened the wrapping. Inside was a wooden box half a foot square, with a letter on top of it.
Mei Pu put down his sword, picked up the letter, and saw a line of words written on it: "Written personally by General Xiao Kai of Jingzhou and King of Xiliang."
Mei Cheng got out of bed and scolded, "Don't read the letter, open the box quickly!"
Mei Pu handed the letter to Xiao Zhuo and Shen Yuexi who were standing beside him, and went to open the wooden box. Shen Yuexi opened the letter and found only one line of blood writing on it, which read:
The hatred for killing one's father is irreconcilable.
By this time, Mei Pu had already opened the wooden box. Mei Cheng was the first to look inside, screaming and fainting on the ground. Mei Pu also collapsed to the ground, roaring, "Mother!"
The wooden box fell to the ground and a woman's head rolled out of it.
