Chapter 139 God's Feeling
"The gods have appeared!"
The village head knelt excitedly beside the straight road, not even daring to touch the road with his hands. He kowtowed three times to show his respect to the gods before standing up.
I'm already half buried, yet I've witnessed divine intervention in my lifetime. Could it be that Xiaogang Village's fortunes have turned, and it's about to become some kind of feng shui treasure land or a place with dragon veins?
If that is true, it would be like a thousand-year-old country bumpkin turning into a dragon overnight.
Behind him were the people of Xiaogang Village, all kneeling on either side of the main road, the crowds so dense that no one could move. Most of the villagers held incense sticks and knelt devoutly.
The news of the dramatic change at Langya Pass spread throughout Xiaogang Village that morning, sending the entire village into a frenzy. Forgetting even breakfast, everyone rushed to the pass north of the village to witness the miracle.
The broad road transformed the winding Wolf Fang Pass into a straight line, as if a god had split the entire mountain range with a giant axe at night. The early morning sun illuminated the stone wall on the west side of the road, casting neat shadows on the flat road.
In the eyes of these rustic villagers who had never seen the world, the previous act of the gods making crossbows was child's play compared to this.
This is the power to move mountains and seas.
"This... this is divine power. Human power could never achieve this." The village head walked tremblingly onto the road, each step devout. "The gods opened up this road so that we can guard it."
Looking north from where he stood, he could see right through the entire mountain range, as well as the city wall that was beginning to take shape rising from the ground outside the pass.
Overnight, some unknown spirit opened a new highway through the mountains and built the rudiments of a city wall outside the pass. From a bird's eye view, it resembled a square hat placed over the northern exit of the highway. Currently, though, it stood only two layers of bricks, barely reaching the height of an adult's shoulders.
After the initial shock, everyone began to discuss who this god was.
At first, everyone thought it was the statue enshrined in the temple. But then a soldier who had been patrolling the Langya Pass the previous night jumped in and said they had noticed a man in the passage below. The soldiers didn't think much of it, thinking it was a sleepless villager who had come to relax.
Now that I think about it, that man must have been the deity who opened the way. There was no doubt about it. At that time, the villagers of Xiaogang Village gathered in the square, and in full view of everyone, the statue in the temple did not move at all.
Furthermore, when the war was at its peak, the deity in the temple stopped helping to forge crossbows, suggesting it was a lazy deity. The deity who opened up the mountains and built the city at night must have been a newcomer.
"So our Xiaogang Village is protected by two true gods?" The village head was amazed. "What on earth have we done to deserve the gods' help?"
Yang Cong's mother said, "Village Head, you still can't figure it out? It's the Crown Prince of Dayan who came here, so he must have three thousand spirits with him. That's why two of them showed up."
Now that she knew Xiao Zhuo's true identity, her tone of voice had changed. Thinking back to her attitude when Xiao Zhuo first arrived in Xiaogang Village, she felt a chill run down her spine.
But he is the prince of Dayan, he certainly won't bother with a village woman like her, right?
"Three thousand!" A villager in the crowd gasped. "With so many gods, if we build temples to worship them, we'll need three thousand temples alone. Oh my god!"
Yang Cong's mother interrupted with a wry smile, "I've said too much, but the gods' presence here is definitely related to the Crown Prince."
Everyone got on the main road and walked along it until they reached the city wall.
Apparently, the gods wanted to build a wall to protect them from the attacks of the Xirong people. But for some reason, they only built two layers and stopped.
"Everyone, listen to what I have to say," the village head said, standing at the foot of the city wall. "The gods knew the Western Rong would invade, but they didn't finish the city wall. There must be a reason for that."
The villagers were all whispering about it, and one anxious villager asked, "What's the purpose? Headmaster, please stop keeping us in suspense and tell us quickly."
The village head replied somewhat awkwardly, "I can't figure it out at the moment, so I don't dare to speculate on the will of God."
"I know." A woman's clear voice came from the back of the crowd.
It’s Shen Yuexi.
Everyone looked back and immediately made way for her, bowing to show their respect.
"The Crown Princess is here."
Everyone admired her, not just because of her status as the Crown Princess. As Xiao Zhuo's wife, she was unassuming and mingled well with the common people. Even Xiao Zhuo's generals admired her for her courage in battle against the Western Rong. In her daily life, she invented the well-drilling machine, which helped dig wells for the village, eliminating the need for villagers to travel to the northern mountains to fetch water.
Adding all things together, the identity of the Crown Princess comes last.
Shen Yuexi walked up to the village head and said to him with a smile: "I know what the gods mean. I will tell everyone."
The village head nodded and said, "I also think that if there is anyone in the village who understands the spirits' intentions, besides the Crown Prince himself, it would be you, the Crown Princess."
People who are blessed by gods will naturally find it easier to understand what gods mean.
Shen Yuexi turned around and said to everyone, "The gods only built two layers of the wall because they didn't want us to sit back and enjoy the fruits of their labor. We are all mortals, and we haven't done anything to move the gods. How can we deserve the gods to protect us? Isn't that right?"
Everyone whispered to each other and nodded in agreement.
The Crown Princess was right. The village had never worshipped this god, nor had it done anything earth-shattering.
"The spirit's message is simple. If we want to protect this village, we all need to work together. The spirit has already built the foundation for the wall, and now it's up to us all to do our part."
"I understand," a burly man in the crowd raised his hand. "Princess, we must complete this city for the gods. I'm a stonemason and can chisel the right bricks."
"I'm a stonemason too." Several more people in the crowd raised their hands. "Let's start building after breakfast."
These people came from all over to Xiaogang Village. As the population grew, more and more people came who knew various skills.
Everyone responded and started working immediately. The village already had plenty of iron pickaxes and other tools for cutting rocks, which came in handy.
Seeing that everyone had started to move, Shen Yuexi found a place to sit down by the road and began to bask in the sun leisurely as she herself was too weak to do anything.
Any claims that gods don’t want everyone to reap the benefits are all lies.
There is only one reason for the current situation: the energy stored in the universal manufacturing machine has been used up. To put it simply, "Big Bear is out of power."
Last night she gathered the raw materials and began to build the wall outside the pass.
Watching the huge bricks piled up in front of her, for a moment, she really felt like a god who created the world.
Unfortunately, ten seconds later, Big Bear's voice rang out:
"Dear Master, Big Bear's stored energy cannot support the next construction and needs to be replenished... Temporarily shut down."
Shen Yuexi was stunned on the spot.
Only then did she remember Big Bear's limitations.
Big Bear is powered by sunlight. Previously, Big Bear had only built small things, which consumed enough energy. Now, to build a city, Big Bear's energy was clearly insufficient.
I felt God for just ten seconds.
