Chapter 23 Healing
Shen Yuexi was in a good mood after she found a doctor who could treat Xiao Zhuo's injuries.
She decided to buy some daily necessities.
Passing by a clothing store, she went in and picked out a few sets of clothes for herself and Xiao Zhuo, and also bought two sets for Old Lady Feng and Feng Zhang. After paying, she put her things in the car and went to the grain store to buy some rice and noodles.
Now that she had the money, she didn't plan to treat herself badly, so she bought two large bags of rice and flour in one go.
Passing by a meat stall, she bought several pounds of pork and bones. In ancient times, there were no refrigerators, so she didn't dare buy too much for fear that it would go bad.
Seeing that she bought so many things, Feng Zhang had no choice but to squat aside and watch Shen Yuexi buy after several attempts of persuasion failed.
Shen Yuexi went to the pharmacy to buy some medicinal herbs for nourishing the body and bought a few books at the bookstore.
We had already arrived at the market.
The vendors in the street market were carrying their loads and shouting loudly. Various masks were hung on the outside of the loads, some worn by children and some by adults. It was now August, and the traditional Qiqiao Festival was approaching, so the vendors put their goods out for sale in advance.
Shen Yuexi walked to a stall. The vendor saw her coming, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and asked with a smile:
"Miss, you need to buy a mask. The masks here are unique and all made by hand. On the Qiqiao Festival, you can wear a pair with your sweetheart and there will be no mistake."
This is the ancient people's "masked date".
Since the Great Yan Dynasty began registering, restrictions on women have been somewhat strict. Unmarried women had to wear veils when going out, and the distinctions between men and women were very clear. It was rare for couples to meet before marriage, and only on the Qiqiao Festival could young men and women meet.
Most of them are engaged couples, and it is a meeting before marriage.
But later on, even unmarried girls could go out and have fun, but they had to wear a mask.
Shen Yuexi chose a pair of black and white evil masks.
In Feng Zhang's eyes, she was a spendthrift who could not save money once she had it.
"Brother Feng," she handed him two buns she had just bought, "fill your stomach first."
There were a few beggars in tattered clothes and holding broken bowls on the street. There was a child following the beggars, who looked only four or five years old.
He looked frail, and his eyes had long lost the innocence of a child, instead showing a desire for survival.
She couldn't eat the bun in her hand any more and quietly put a small piece of silver into the child's hand.
Feng Zhang saw this, chuckled, and said to himself, "I knew Madam Pei and the others were good people."
If it was a bandit, why would he save him? And why would he give money to the beggars on the street?
If this was the bandit in the poster, then he really hoped there would be more bandits like him.
After finishing everything, she and Feng Zhang drove back.
When they were almost at Daliang Village, they caught up with Doctor Hua's ox cart. After saying hello to Doctor Hua, Shen Yuexi took the cart back to the village first.
Fortunately, Xiao Zhuo was not waiting for them outside today.
After getting out of the car, Feng Zhang went into the house to move things, while Shen Yuexi went back to the house first to find Xiao Zhuo.
As she entered the room, she saw Xiao Zhuo writing something on the table with his fingers dipped in water. He looked up and saw her coming back, then wiped the marks on the table with his hand and said lightly, "You're back."
"Husband," Shen Yuexi hurriedly took out the mask she had bought and gave it to Xiao Zhuo, urging him, "Put it on quickly, the doctor will be here soon."
Xiao Zhuo did not take the mask, but just took a look at it and turned his gaze to her again.
When Xiao Zhuo narrowed his narrow eyes slightly and looked at her, she always felt as if he was looking down on her from a superior position.
Xiao Zhuo was extremely calm and even a little indifferent in front of others. The sunlight fell on his handsome profile, and in a trance, his gloomy face became a little more fragile.
After all, he was once a high and mighty prince. Even a saint would have his mindset altered if he fell into such a quagmire overnight. Furthermore, what happened to Xiao Zhuo had far-reaching consequences.
There is a wanted warrant for Xiao Zhuo even in this place, let alone anywhere else.
"Well... well," she said, looking at the expressionless Xiao Zhuo, "I went into the city today and saw your portraits posted everywhere...
After she finished telling Xiao Zhuo what happened, Xiao Zhuo murmured, "They acted quite quickly."
Seeing that Xiao Zhuo's eyes were not right, Shen Yuexi was afraid that he would not cooperate, so she hurriedly said, "Husband, we must heal our wounds first before we can deal with those who are chasing us."
Xiao Zhuo raised a hint of sarcasm at the corner of his mouth and stretched out his hand, saying, "Indeed, give it to me."
As soon as he finished speaking, Feng Zhang outside shouted, "Master Pei, Doctor Hua from the county town is here."
Hearing Feng Zhang's voice outside, Shen Yuexi hurriedly urged him: "People are coming, put it on quickly."
Xiao Zhuo quickly put on his mask. The door opened and Dr. Hua walked in carrying a medicine box.
Doctor Hua first glanced at Xiao Zhuo's mask, but didn't say much. He just put the medicine box on the table and said, "Young man, show me your wound."
Shen Yuexi stood aside, feeling apprehensive, afraid that Dr. Hua would see through her actions and ask Xiao Zhuo to take off his mask.
Fortunately, Dr. Hua didn't seem to want to have too much entanglement with the patient, and just treated Xiao Zhuo purely as a patient.
Shen Yuexi quickly helped Xiao Zhuo sit down, revealing the wound on the back of his shoulder.
Doctor Hua checked Xiao Zhuo's wound and looked surprised. He stretched out his finger to smear some of the remaining medicine powder around the wound and put it to his nose to smell it.
"You have sustained such a serious arrow wound, yet you have managed to hold on for so long. The powder applied here must have been very useful." Doctor Hua stroked his beard with a look of admiration.
Xiao Zhuo, who was wearing a mask, glanced at Shen Yuexi. He did not respond to Dr. Hua's words, but nodded slightly and said with a slightly tired look:
"This medicine is really effective."
At this time, Shen Yuexi had already brought a round stool over and placed it next to Xiao Zhuo. Doctor Hua sat down and said, "Come, give me your hand."
He placed two fingers on Xiao Zhuo's wrist, felt his pulse, and nodded, saying, "I've been practicing medicine for half my life, and I've never seen anyone with such a good physique. Are you a martial artist?"
He looked up at Xiao Zhuo, with a hint of inquiry in his eyes.
Shen Yuexi stood aside and clearly felt that Xiao Zhuo had restrained his momentum and seemed reluctant to answer Dr. Hua's question. His voice was calm and calm: "I have learned the basics for a few years, just to strengthen my body."
Shen Yuexi glanced at Xiao Zhuo secretly and thought: If this is just the fur, then others will not be able to survive.
"Fortunately, Mr. Pei's wound has not worsened thanks to the medicine. I need to use a knife to scrape off the dead flesh in the wound before I can use the medicine," said Doctor Hua as he stood up to get the medicine box.
He rolled up his sleeves and took out a thin knife and other tools from the medicine box. "It will be very painful, just bear with it."
Xiao Zhuo closed his eyes and said, "It's okay."
Dr. Hua first roasted the knife with fire, then poured some white wine to clean the blade.
The room was filled with a strong smell of alcohol. Shen Yuexi knew that this was to disinfect the knife. In ancient times, there were no proper disinfection measures, and roasting with fire was the most common way to sterilize.
Wait? Disinfectant? Alcohol?
Then could she use the wine to let the universal fabricator make some disinfectant?
"Calling Big Bear, can you make some disinfectant?"
"Dear Master, I'm collecting the raw materials needed for disinfectant..."
"Stop, stop, stop!" Shen Yuexi hurriedly stopped it. She knew where the materials were collected without asking. She glanced at Dr. Hua's medicine box.
The liquor is still there.
Now she knew that white wine could be used to make disinfectant alcohol. If Xiao Zhuo got injured again in the future, she could use disinfectant to wipe the wound.
Thinking of this, the corners of her mouth raised high.
Next, Doctor Hua inserted a small knife into the wound on Xiao Zhuo's back, scraping it gently, picking out the rotten flesh and wiping away the blood that flowed out of the wound.
This was probably similar to scraping the bone to treat the wound, and it made her scalp tingle.
Xiao Zhuo lowered his eyes, seemingly indifferent to the pain.
If there weren't outsiders around, she would really want to give Xiao Zhuo a thumbs up.
Even this kind of pain can remain unfazed. I remember when Hua Tuo scraped the bone to treat Guan Yu's injury, the latter remained calm and unconcerned. At that time, it was still a little difficult to understand.
Now she finally understood that anyone who could endure pain was a hero.
It took a full half hour for Dr. Hua to deal with the rotten flesh, apply medicine, and then suture the wound with special needle and thread.
Shen Yuexi was really surprised. She didn't expect that people in ancient times already knew how to suture wounds with needles and thread.
What a surprise.
