Chapter 32: Bright Moon in the Sky
The moon was bright in the sky, and all was quiet except for the croaking of frogs from the pond outside the village.
Shen Yuexi walked to the drawn curtain with a set of clothes in her hands and placed the clothes one by one on the horizontal bar beside it so that Xiao Zhuo could reach them after taking a shower.
"Husband," she whispered through the curtain, "the clothes are already here."
After standing outside and waiting for a while, she heard neither a response nor the sound of water. She couldn't help but feel a little worried. What happened to this person?
Walking to the curtain, she tilted her head and peeked inside. She saw Xiao Zhuo tilting his head back, seemingly resting. His damp, black hair cascaded freely across his fair back, his two muscular arms relaxedly clinging to the edge of the tub. A string of small drops of water trickled down from his elbow, dripping onto the floor.
This guy looks thin, but I didn't expect him to be so well-endowed.
Her heart suddenly started pounding, her face flushed, and she quickly looked away and turned away.
This is definitely not peeping.
Who told the man to be inexplicably silent? She was just trying to see what was going on out of kindness.
Xiao Zhuo seemed to be asleep. She cleared her throat and was about to wake him up with a louder voice when Xiao Zhuo's deep voice came out from inside:
"I'm done."
Behind her, she heard the sound of someone getting out of the bathtub. Shen Yuexi quickly turned around and walked quickly to the door. She stood outside and looked up at the sky, pretending to admire the moon.
There was a sound of water pouring in the room. It must be Xiao Zhuo changing the water for her.
She kept looking up at the moon, and reached out to touch her still hot cheek. She wondered if it had turned red, and if Xiao Zhuo would notice.
Footsteps were heard behind her, and they stopped when they were half a meter away from her.
She still maintained the posture of looking up at the moon.
"Okay, it's your turn to wash."
Shen Yuexi pretended to be relaxed and turned around, trying to look normal, or at least not so awkward. She smiled and said, "The moon tonight is really..."
Before she could finish her words, her eyes fell on him. She was stunned for a moment but did not look away.
Bright moonlight filtered through the treetops, casting a slanting light on his slender figure, casting a faint halo around him. His half-dried, black hair cascaded carelessly down his back. A few unruly strands drifted across his smooth forehead, past his thick, long eyelashes, and danced in the wind across his cold, deep, and limpid eyes.
At this moment, she felt that Xiao Zhuo was an immortal who walked out of the painting. His unique nobility and elegance made her intoxicated without realizing it.
"Yes, the bright moon before my eyes is so dazzling that I can't take my eyes off it."
After Xiao Zhuo finished speaking, he also looked up at the night sky, but in a completely opposite direction from hers. Shen Yuexi followed his gaze and only then noticed that the moon was in the same direction he was looking.
It turns out that I was just looking at it in vain.
Just now, when Xiao Zhuo was standing behind her, she was still looking at the sky, then turned around and said to him, "The moon is really..."
This is really embarrassing.
"You enjoy the moon first, I...I'm going to take a shower."
With a red face, she quickly ran past Xiao Zhuo and into the house.
The clothes she took off reeked of garlic. She sneezed; the smell was overwhelming. She sniffed and stepped into the tub.
Xiao Zhuo stood outside the door until she finished washing and got dressed, then he returned to the house.
Shen Yuexi sat at the table, her half-dry hair draped behind her back, looking down at her hands.
The blood blisters have disappeared, but the skin around the blisters has wrinkled after the menstrual period, which makes her feel a little distressed.
Xiao Zhuo frowned slightly, picked up the handkerchief on the chair, walked around the chair, came behind Shen Yuexi, put her long black hair in his hands, and wiped it carefully with the handkerchief.
"I can do it myself." Shen Yuexi turned around and tried to take the handkerchief from his hand.
Xiao Zhuo moved his hand aside, just out of her reach, and said softly, "It's okay, I'll dry it quickly."
Since she couldn't win against Xiao Zhuo, she had no choice but to let Xiao Zhuo wipe it.
But this was too boring, so she reached out and picked up a book on the table and opened it.
The title of the book is "Tiangong Wushuo". She bought it at a bookstore in the county town. She wanted to use it to understand the world.
She didn't quite understand this world yet, and the original owner's memories were mostly in the small world of the Duke's Mansion. She knew nothing about the outside world. Her understanding was no different from what she, a person who had traveled through time, knew.
She bought two books. One was "Annals of the Yan Dynasty," which chronicled the major events of the Great Yan Dynasty since its founding. The other was the book she now held in her hand, "Stories of the Craftsmen of Heaven." It documented the Great Yan Dynasty's agricultural and handicraft industries, including machinery, bricks and tiles, ceramics, sulfur, candles and paper, weapons, gunpowder, textiles, dyeing, salt production, coal mining, and oil pressing.
What surprised her was that such advanced technology existed in ancient times and was recorded truthfully.
In this way, when Big Bear makes related things in the future, there will be a source.
The book introduces in detail some new inventions and creations in various industries. It is definitely a comprehensive textbook that opens the new century.
Although the contents of the book seemed to her to be ancient technology, it was still a powerful technology in this era. If used properly, it could improve productivity and promote social development.
But what she couldn't understand was that with such an amazing book, why was the productivity of the Great Yan Dynasty still lagging behind?
What confused her even more was that since there were so many records, why did she rarely see these things now? Moreover, combined with the "Annals of the Yan Dynasty", the founding emperor of this dynasty was not a pedantic and conservative person, why did everyone from the court to the society tend to be more conservative now?
At least during the reign of Emperor Shengzu, society was extremely open-minded, and there was even a time when women entered the court to serve as officials.
Why is Dayan regressing instead of advancing?
She raised her eyes from the page and looked up at Xiao Zhuo behind her:
"This book contains many inventions and creations. How come I haven't seen any of these before?"
Xiao Zhuo wiped her hair and said indifferently:
"Since the current emperor ascended the throne, powerful foreign enemies have frequently invaded the border. Furthermore, various vassal kings have maintained their own separatist policies and are not truly loyal to the current emperor. With the Great Yan facing internal and external troubles, the court no longer has the energy to deal with these matters."
When Xiao Zhuo talked about the emperor, there was not much fatherly affection in his words, and they were very cold.
Shen Yuexi nodded in understanding. "It was just internal and external troubles, wasn't that what was written in history books?" That's why such a good book sat in the bookstore with no one interested in it.
"Is this book sold in the capital?"
With Xiao Zhuo's talent, this kind of book should not be unappreciated by him.
Xiao Zhuo shook his head and said, "As far as I know, there is no such book in the capital. If you hadn't bought it, I wouldn't have known that there was such a remarkable person in the Great Yan Dynasty."
Only a remarkable person could compile such a book. Not only would it be remembered for eternity, it would also benefit future generations.
Xiao Zhuo also fixed his eyes on the pages of the book in her hand.
The candlelight flickered gently, and the dim light cast a hazy shadow over his face.
