Chapter 50: Does he care about her?
Jie Chen's voice kept coming from behind Xiangying.
"Pull back your horse! Xiangying, stop chasing!"
Xiangying looked at the horse so close to him, how could he stop?
The supplies pulled by this horse are enough to feed at least ten people for three days.
Xiangying would never allow any supplies to be wasted under her nose.
She whipped the horse faster, and when she was parallel to the brown-maned horse, Xiangying suddenly leaped over.
She thought she had grabbed the reins, but the rain was so heavy that her palms were wet and slippery, and suddenly half of Xiangying's body fell on the horse's belly.
There was only a pair of legs, firmly pedaling.
If she had less strength, she would have fallen and been dragged by the horse.
Xie Chen saw this from behind and shouted, "Hold on tight! Don't let go!"
He galloped after him, but Xiangying had already used inertia to swing himself back onto the horse's back.
The dagger that appeared in her hand out of nowhere cut the rope around the horse's neck in one fell swoop.
The wooden cart overturned, allowing Xiangying to tighten the reins. The horse raised its hooves high, and the neighing sound accompanied by thunder shook the mountains.
When Xie Chen rushed over, Xiang Ying had already stopped the horse.
She was lifting up the overturned wooden cart and moving the bags of flour back.
Two bags were spilled, and she shook her head in pain.
“What a pity!”
Although she has plenty of space, she cherishes every piece of material possession.
People who have experienced the end of the world know how valuable food is and don’t want to waste it at all.
Suddenly, a pair of strong hands clamped her thin shoulders.
"If you want to die, just say so! If you dare to act on your own again, get out of the team!"
Xiangying raised her phoenix eyes. In the pouring rain, Jie Chen was soaked all over. On his cold white jaw, rain mixed with a faint scarlet color fell.
"Your wound is broken again." Xiangying wanted to take off his mask, but was pushed away by Jie Chen.
Xie Chen was fierce. He turned his back and tied the reins of the two horses together, as if he was afraid that she would run away again.
Xiangying didn't expect him to get so angry.
Is he caring about her? That's impossible, they don't have any feelings for each other.
"Don't be angry, I just want to keep the supplies."
"You are just a prisoner. You can't even save your own life. It's unnecessary for you to care about these things."
Xie Chen's words were too cold, and Xiangying was a little angry: "Why don't you know what's good for you? Even if you don't say words of comfort, you don't have to be so sharp. Besides, I'm fine, right?"
Hearing this, Jie Chen turned his head to look.
The thin eyes under the mask were stained with blood, appearing gloomy and cold.
"Have you ever thought that this was just luck? Do you think you can be so lucky every time? If you die, what will happen to your three children? They will become prisoners of a fallen country and lose their mother who can protect them. What will happen to them? Have you ever thought about them?"
Xiangying was stunned.
Xie Chen was angry because of the children.
If he wasn't sure the child was his, he wouldn't care so much, right?
Xiangying is used to being alone, and he has also carried out more difficult and dangerous tasks, so he is naturally brave.
The rain pattered on them, and silence filled the space between the two of them until Xiangying let out a long sigh from her red lips.
"I understand. I won't be so rash next time."
No way.
First calm down the angry man in front of you.
Xie Chen ignored her, tied the horses together, and wanted to take her back.
No one noticed that the wooden cart, which had lost its horse's pull, was slowly sliding down after Xiangying had just straightened it up because it was carrying too much rice and flour.
As the wheel rolled slightly, the hem of Xiangying's skirt that was trailing behind was caught in it.
After Xie Chen secured the horses, he turned around and held out his hand to Xiangying: "Come here, let's go."
Xiangying wiped the rain off his face and said, "Really don't need me to check your eyes first?"
"No need." Jie Chen was particularly cold.
Xiangying was about to put her hand in his palm when suddenly there was a huge pulling force from behind, quickly dragging her down.
"Hiss!" Xiangying groaned and her head hit the ground, causing her to see stars in pain.
Xie Chen's eyes changed, and he quickly stepped forward to grab her, but the wooden cart dragging Xiangying was sliding faster and faster down the steep slope, and he missed.
"Xiangying!" Without hesitation, he rushed over and grabbed her hand. The two of them were dragged quickly on the ground by the wooden cart.
Xie Chen used the terrain to push forward and hugged Xiangying directly.
At this time, Xiangying had been hit by the protruding stones on the ground, and his head was dizzy.
Jie Chen hugged her tightly, took out his sword and cut off the hem of her skirt that was entangled in the wheel.
However, at this time, the two were taken down a very long slope.
Jie Chen protected Xiangying's head, and the two of them rolled and fell. Finally, Xiangying felt their bodies go empty, and then they fell heavily into the water.
With a loud splash, everything went dark before her eyes and she was gradually knocked unconscious by the rushing water.
I don’t know how much time passed.
Xiangying opened his heavy eyelids and suddenly felt a sharp pain in his head.
Damn, those falls were really hard. Could she have a mild concussion?
The sound of burning matches came from the side.
Her hazy and tired eyes turned and she saw that they were in a cave. Jie Chen had broad shoulders and a thin waist, was shirtless, and was fiddling with a fire with his back to her.
On the wooden rack next to it, her clothes were hung to warm themselves by the fire.
Xiangying propped herself up and sat up, and the clothes covering her slipped off.
Jie Chen turned around when he heard the noise. He had a handsome and cold face without a mask, sword-like eyebrows that were as dark as his temples, and his thin eyes were filled with a biting coldness.
A hint of discomfort flashed across his eyes, and he walked forward and put the fallen clothes back on Xiangying.
"I'm dressed."
Xiangying looked down and saw that her outer clothes had been almost taken off and were placed on the rack to warm herself by the fire, leaving only her bra on.
She looked at the sky outside. It was still dark, but there was no sound of rain.
"Where did we end up?" she asked hoarsely.
"He fell down the hillside and floated along the river for about an hour. He is probably quite far away from the team now."
There was no sign of anxiety when he said this.
Xiangying was not panicked. He said, "Has the rain stopped? Let's go back now."
"Wait until daybreak before leaving. We can't see clearly at night."
Xiangying noticed that the injured part of his eyelid was slightly white, which was caused by blisters.
She was just about to ask about his injuries, but she didn't expect him to hand her the water bag.
"Drank it." He said briefly.
Xiangying hesitated: "This is the only thing you have left, right? There is not much water left, let's share it between the two of us."
Xie Chen didn't waste any words: "I'm not thirsty."
Xiangying took it and sipped it in small sips.
Then, the two fell into a long silence.
She leaned against the cave wall while he fiddled with the fire, rubbing his brow from time to time.
The injured eyelid must be very painful, but he definitely wouldn't let her see it.
Xiangying decided to make small talk.
"Why did you think of saving me? In your heart, you must hate me, right?"
Xie Chen's profile was stern, and his voice was equally ruthless: "I saved you because I didn't want the child to be without a mother."
Xiangying complained in his heart.
Naive man, he doesn’t even know if the child is yours!
In the original owner's memory, Jie Chen basically left no impression on her, probably because there were too many handsome men imprisoned.
It is now difficult for Xiangying to recall what happened between them.
Seeing Jiechen raising his hand to rub his eyebrows again, Xiangying quietly closed his eyes and entered the space.
She wrapped a few bunches of herbs, wet the sachet with water, and when she finally opened her eyes, the sachet was already in her palm.
Xiangying pretended to just realize it and was a little surprised: "Ah, we are so lucky, the medicine I prepared for your eye injury didn't fall off."
Unexpectedly, Jie Chen looked over and frowned slightly.
He was silent for a moment, then asked, "I was the one who took off your clothes, so why didn't I see the medicine bag?"
Xiangying’s smile froze on his lips.
Damn it, forget about it.
