Chapter 21 The Value of Seven Eggs
Gu Yuexuan placed the remaining bowls one by one on the same wooden board, her eyes full of disregard. She turned to face Tu Subo directly, her tone firm and unquestionable: "The largest bowl is yours, take it away."
Tu Subo extended his hand without hesitation.
Before she finished her words, she pointed to another bowl and said gently, "Mother, this bowl is yours."
As for Minxu and Yunxi, he said, "Yours are all in the small bowls."
At this point, the last remaining bowl was naturally left to her.
She worked hard to cook enough noodles for the whole family, but what was finally put into her bowl was such a tiny amount.
The food was shared, and there was no leftovers!
Tu Suting, sitting at the table with chopsticks in hand, witnessed this scene and couldn't help but ask in surprise, "Then where are our noodles?"
How to eat raw and cold noodles?
Gu Yuexuan, however, showed no shame and responded confidently, "Aren't there some leftover noodles on the stove? Once the water boils, just cook them yourself."
She had already cooked the noodles perfectly and only needed to simmer them briefly, so could that be any difficulty?
Without waiting for Yu and Li to frown in dissatisfaction, she added, "Grandpa and grandmother are old, and it is only natural for them to enjoy the support of their children. However, uncle and aunt, you are not yet at the age where it is inconvenient to take action, right?" The implication of her words was clear enough.
In the past, Tu Subo was sympathetic to the hard work of his elders and took the initiative to take on the tedious tasks in the kitchen. However, this cannot continue in the future.
She smiled and raised her head, her gaze gently resting on the somewhat displeased old lady. She said lightly, "Speaking of former noble status, even Second and Third Aunts couldn't compare to my mother-in-law's prominent status. She can still dig wild vegetables herself, so what can't you do yourself?"
"How can cooking a bowl of noodles be so difficult? If you really can't do it, then you might as well go hungry."
At most, she would only pay for one portion of the meals for the old lady and the old man in order to silence the two old people. As for other people, she didn't care at all.
Li asked in surprise, "What if you cook it all at once?"
Gu Yuexuan was only concerned with the noodles in her bowl, not even raising her eyelids. She shrugged and said, "Why don't you try going hungry for a meal?"
"If you want to eat, just make it yourself. I even cooked some extra noodles today, but I don't know if I'll continue to do that in the future."
Tu Suting's youngest daughter, Tu Suyanting, is only seven years old, so it is understandable.
However, the two sons of Tu Suye's family, Tu Su Minfei was already seventeen years old, and Tu Su Minyang was also fourteen years old. However, under the protection of their parents, they disappeared silently from everyone's sight like ghosts sneaking into the house.
They have nothing to do and are idle, but they still put on the noble attitude of young masters, waiting for food to come with peace of mind.
Tu Su Minxu, who was only three years old, already knew how to pick wild vegetables. What right did they have to sit back and reap the benefits?
She had never experienced the luxury of a noble family, nor was she able to serve such an idle young man!
Gu Yuexuan's condition gradually improved and she was full of energy. Seeing this, Tu Subo silently put the fried egg from his bowl into hers.
"Your body hasn't recovered yet, so eat more."
Seeing the only half an egg in Tu Su Minxu and Tu Su Yunxi's bowls, Xi Lanfang also mustered up the courage to join in the consolation: "You really need to rest well. Go and rest after dinner. You don't have to worry about the dishes."
The eldest family is harmonious and united, and the reasons put forward by Gu Yuexuan are difficult to refute.
The old lady wanted to interject a few words, but with a bowl of steaming noodles in front of her, what could she say?
You should be grateful if you eat someone else's food.
She was not allowed to starve, so what objection could she have at this moment?
The gray-haired old man stared dazedly at the golden poached eggs in the bowl, then slowly lowered his eyes and spoke earnestly, "Why make such a fuss while eating? Have you forgotten the rule of not talking while eating again?"
"If you are not hungry, you can go back to your room and rest."
Gu Yuexuan raised her eyebrows slightly, a hint of playfulness in her smile, and softly agreed: "Indeed, dreams contain everything. Why should we worry about a mere meal?"
As the old man's words fell, it was like a magic needle that stabilized the sea. The original dissatisfaction and complaints had to turn into a gloomy look and were swallowed silently.
Yu and Li, who insisted on staying away from the smell of kitchen smoke, looked gloomy. They rolled up their sleeves and started working in a hurry. After several attempts, they finally managed to cook the noodles in the pot enough to be served in a bowl.
However, the noodles cooked by Gu Yuexuan were distinct, springy and chewy.
In contrast, the noodles they cooked were as mushy as porridge and had a bad taste.
When everyone was finally served their meals, a complaining Yu gritted her teeth and asked, "Tu Subo, I heard you were working hard outside to earn money? Where is all that money?"
Tu Suye's face was also frosty, and he said in a cold tone: "The family expenses have always been managed by mother. How can you hide the money you earned privately!"
The old lady's eyes were as deep as an ancient well, and she cast a cold gaze at Tu Subo. The meaning was self-evident, and the atmosphere suddenly froze.
Gu Yuexuan frowned slightly and was about to speak when she saw another egg added to her bowl.
Originally, she only prepared two eggs for Tu Subo, one in front and one in back, but now she transferred all of them to her own bowl.
"Tu Subo..."
"I'm full."
Tu Subo clapped his hands, then held Tu Su Yunxi, who didn't even know how to use chopsticks, in his arms. While feeding her carefully, he said calmly, "I was just about to mention this."
He glanced calmly at the people staring at him, then spoke in a soothing tone, "Today, I went out with the villagers to find a job. I can earn seven copper coins a day."
An egg could be exchanged for one penny in the market, and his day's hard work only earned him the value of seven eggs.
Gu Yuexuan looked at the eggs in her bowl, and suddenly an indescribable feeling surged in her heart, but Tu Subo's tone remained calm.
"I've already made inquiries. They're still in urgent need of labor. Who's willing to go with me tomorrow?"
When these words came out, Yu was stunned and asked doubtfully, "Tu Subo, what are you planning?"
"What else could I possibly intend?"
Tu Subo gently wiped the soup from the corner of Tu Su Yunxi's lips and said to Second Aunt in a serious tone, "Second Aunt, there is no such thing as a free lunch in this world. All achievements require a price."
"Since we are in this land, we must abide by the laws here."
He ignored the gloomy faces of those around him and continued, "As Xuanxuan said, Grandpa and Grandma worked hard all their lives and should not suffer this hardship again. It is only natural for the eldest son of the family to support the two elders, but you are not qualified to do so."
"The current food supply is unlikely to last for long. Winter is approaching, and keeping warm and hungry will become a serious problem. It's impossible to survive by lying in the house all day."
