Chapter 5 Feeding herbs to the unconscious Tu Subo
Gu Yuexuan's mind instantly became chaotic.
"Tu Subo?"
"Tu Subo, what's wrong with you?"
She shook him several times as hard as she could, but Tu Subo didn't respond. She was extremely anxious and shouted for help: "Tu Subo has lost consciousness!"
"Someone come!"
Gu Yuexuan raised her voice to the highest point, but except for her mother-in-law who staggered over with tears streaming down her face, and her brother and sister-in-law who cried in fear, everyone else just stood by and watched indifferently.
Tu Suting said sarcastically, "So what if he fainted? You've brought the Tu Su family to this point, and you still think you're a high and mighty prince?"
"The journey to Fangling is long, and it's normal to feel dizzy occasionally. Why make a fuss?"
The old lady's face twisted, and she once again threw the steamed bun that Tu Subo handed over into the air, her tone cold and harsh: "That's right, what's there to worry about?"
The others also looked indifferent.
“Oh my god…”
Xi Lanfang stared in shock at the family members who were speaking ill of her. Her heart felt like it had been struck by a huge rock, and she was in unbearable pain. She threw herself on Tu Subo, tears streaming down her face, beating her chest and stamping her feet: "My son! Your father is dead. If anything happens to you again, how can I survive in this world?"
"What are you howling about! He's not dead yet!"
Gu Yuexuan's face turned ashen. She pushed away the crying Xi Lanfang and quickly touched Tu Subo's neck with trembling fingers to confirm that he was still showing signs of life. She immediately breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly walked towards the yamen runner who was frowning and examining her.
Before this, she hid in a dark corner and witnessed Tu Subo talking with the yamen runner for a while. The two seemed to be quite familiar with each other.
Perhaps, there is a turning point in this!
Without even taking a breath, she said hurriedly, "Sir, Tu Subo suddenly vomited blood and fainted. Can you lend a hand and think of a solution?"
The yamen runner looked embarrassed: "It's the first day since we left Shengjing. I don't know how many eyes are watching us from behind. If..."
"Maybe we can only hold on for now."
After all, in order to avoid causing more trouble, seeking medical treatment and medication is obviously not an option.
Gu Yuexuan wasn't surprised by this answer. She turned around and said firmly, "Then, can you allow me to go to that forest to look for herbs? I promise I won't cause you any trouble. Once I find the herbs, I will return immediately."
Although she has no medical knowledge, she has a deep understanding of various herbs from the self-help skills she learned in an orphanage as a child and her later doctoral studies in agronomy.
Clearly, Tu Subo's condition was a reverse flow of Qi and blood, preventing it from flowing smoothly. If they could find a herbal remedy that could soothe Qi, perhaps they could save him a glimmer of hope.
Faced with the hesitation of the yamen runner, Gu Yuexuan simply turned around and gently took out a round pearl the size of a thumb from her sleeve.
She pressed the pearl into the yamen runner's palm, with a bitter smile on her face, and pleaded, "Sir, please lend a hand."
"If he remains unconscious, and no one carries him tomorrow, it will be difficult to set off. Wouldn't that delay our journey?"
"I'll go find some herbs for him first. It won't be too late to ask a doctor to come and treat him in a few days."
The yamen runner held the scorching pearl in his hand, glanced at the dying Tu Subo, and made up his mind: "Alright! But I must go with you!"
Gu Yuexuan nodded in agreement and immediately led the yamen runners deep into the forest.
Fortunately, it is midsummer and everything is growing vigorously.
It didn't take her long to find the herbs she needed. She quickly returned, carefully wrapped the thorny leaves with her clothes, and gently crushed them.
Then, she carefully pried open Tu Subo's mouth and squeezed the green juice into his mouth drop by drop.
Tu Subo clenched his teeth and refused to give in. This was the first time that Gu Yuexuan tried to feed him medicine in this way. The thick juice with black and green tints flowed freely, not only staining her clothes, but also dripping down her neck, making a mess.
Xi Lanfang stared blankly at her mechanically repeating the movements, as if she had lost her soul. After a long moment, she suddenly pushed her: "What on earth are you doing?"
"What on earth did you feed Bo'er?!"
Gu Yuexuan was caught off guard and fell to the ground by the push, and she was immediately furious.
"If he hadn't done this, he would have died long ago!"
She didn't want to cause trouble, but on the long journey to Fangling, Tu Subo was the only one who could deliver the water bag in time.
If Tu Subo passed away, how could she, a newly widow, live a good life?
These people are jackals, tigers and leopards that can swallow her bones whole!
Gu Yuexuan's face turned pale as she struggled to stand up. When Xi Lanfang tried to stop her again, she said firmly, "You don't want your son to die, and I don't want to die alone. Therefore, I will never do anything to harm him. Understand?"
Xi Lanfang had obviously not yet fully adapted to her new identity as a mother-in-law. Tears streamed down her face like a sieve swaying in the wind.
But Gu Yuexuan had no time to waste on talking to her and had to make a quick decision.
With her skillful hands, she carefully ground the picked wild grass into a thick juice, which she squeezed drop by drop into Tu Subo's slightly opened lips. She even did not let go of the juice beads that accidentally dripped onto his neck.
After she had patiently squeezed out all the grass juice, she held Tu Subo's hand tightly, pierced his index finger with a sharp needle, and squeezed it hard to force the blood to flow out slowly.
However, even so, when her eyelids began to droop involuntarily, Tu Subo, whose face was as pale as paper, still did not wake up from his sleep.
He seemed to have really sunk into a deep sleep...
In the last moment before she fell into coma, Gu Yuexuan was still worried.
When she was awakened by the dazzling morning light, she groped around and found that the person who had been with her last night was no longer there. She sat up suddenly, startled, "Tu Subo?"
"What?"
Tu Subo had quietly woken up without him knowing when.
He was still wearing the same clothes as last night, but after a night of tossing and turning, the originally spotless white collar had been stained with various colors by the mottled herbal juice. The light green color appeared even more vivid against the snow-white fabric, and also made his face look even paler.
Gu Yuexuan was stunned for a moment, then frowned slightly and patted her forehead with some annoyance.
"woke up?"
Those herbs that she had worked so hard to find actually had a magical effect after one night?
Tu Subo nodded slightly in response.
In the hazy light and shadow, a large shadow suddenly appeared in front of Gu Yuexuan. Before she could look up, two green, unripe wild fruits appeared in her arms.
Tu Subo threw the fruit away and was about to leave when someone suddenly shouted from a distance, "Gu Yuexuan has hidden silver on her!"
Yu pointed at her nose and shouted, "I saw it with my own eyes last night. She bribed the yamen runners with jewels to search for medicinal herbs for Tu Subo!"
"She must have hidden some money on her, why did she let Tu Subo have it all to herself?"
In the corner that was originally ignored, suddenly, all eyes were cast on Gu Yuexuan like a spotlight, and she immediately became the target of public criticism.
