Chapter 127 Fish Wontons
The water diversion facilities Jiang Lin had mapped were more accurate to current conditions than her own copy of modern machinery. Furthermore, with Jiang Lin's presence, she didn't have to explain how she knew all this. Qin Xiangnuan picked up a wooden spoon, scooped up a wonton, and placed it in her mouth. The broth burst forth as she bit into it, filling her entire mouth. The delicious combination of fish and vegetables made her want a second one.
It is difficult to find plump and fresh fish in this kind of area.
Qin Xiangnuan suddenly remembered the night before, when she and Jiang Lin were sitting on the eaves, chatting over wine and singing songs. She had only casually asked Jiang Lin what he liked to eat, but he didn't answer, instead trying to get a lot of her words out of him.
"I loved eating fish when I was little, but then I caught a fishbone and it hurt, so I stopped eating it." Qin Xiangnuan meant what she said. She had lived in the organization since she was little, without siblings or parents to look after her. If she wanted to survive, she had to find her own way.
The organization never skimped on their food, clothing, housing, and transportation, so the cafeteria always had a wide variety of delicious food. Most of the people her age were boys, and they would rush into the cafeteria at the appointed time, plundering the food like gluttons. She had to compete with the boys, and naturally, she didn't dare slow down when eating fish, otherwise it would be snatched away by others.
That time, when she swallowed a fish bone, it got stuck in her throat. She tried countless ways to soften it but couldn't swallow it.
The excruciating pain would haunt her forever. She was still young, tears streaming down her face, convinced she was about to die. She felt a pang of resignation, not on the way to her mission, but in her own cafeteria. Fortunately, a passing instructor noticed something was wrong and took her to the organization's hospital, where the fishbone was removed. Since then... perhaps over a decade, she hasn't eaten fish again.
Even when they were exiled to the General's Mansion, she only pretended to eat two bites of the fish Qin Feng caught from the creek.
Jiang Lin, however, took all this to heart and helped her figure out how to make this bowl of fish wontons. Qin Xiangnuan would be lying if she said she wasn't touched by his thoughtfulness. She skimmed the oil from the soup bowl and peeled back the wonton wrappers, revealing that the fish had been carefully deboned. "What on earth does this guy want?" She frowned. To her, Jiang Lin was like a burning charcoal fire, warm enough to draw her closer, yet afraid to.
Who knows if you get too close and the fire will burn you?
Now is not a good time to take risks.
Qin Xiangnuan placed the empty bowl on the window and went to bed, fully dressed. Perhaps she was a little tired today, she fell asleep quickly. When she opened her eyes again, it was already the next morning. There was a knocking sound outside. Qin Xiangnuan quickly washed up and walked into the courtyard. She found that the black boss and the second-in-command had already carried a lot of wood down from the mountain and were chopping it with axes, cutting it into strips.
"What are you doing?"
Qin Xiangnuan asked doubtfully. The Second Master put down the wood in his hand when he heard her question and said, "Young Master Jiang said that you asked us to do it."
"I'm telling you, don't you want to make that thing? While you still have time, make some preparations ahead of time to save some time." Jiang Lin said calmly, approaching from the next yard. Qin Xiangnuan, still a little dazed from waking up, immediately understood what he meant. She nodded, called Hei Lao Da and Er Dangjia over, and pulled out the revised blueprints from his pocket.
The gang leader and the second in command came over and looked at something they had never seen before, and saw familiar doubts in each other's eyes.
"Didn't you say the village often suffers from floods in the summer? I've seen the surrounding terrain. It's because of the water from Phoenix Mountain. Whenever there's abundant rain during the rainy season, the water from Phoenix Mountain can't drain away and will flow down the cliffs in front. Combined with the impact, it will naturally destroy the fields in the village. This is a natural disaster, but if you think about it from another perspective, it can also be considered a blessing."
Qin Xiangnuan led the two out of the yard and pointed ahead, saying, "If we can make good use of it and divert the water from Phoenix Mountain down here, instead of waiting for it to accumulate for a long time during the rainy season, then the village won't have to worry about water sources for farming anymore."
"We have thought about it before, but... the mountain is quite far away from the village. If we want to bring water here." The second in command shook his head. They have lived here since childhood and naturally have thought of countless ways. Only when they really couldn't find a way did they come up with the idea of going up the mountain.
Qin Xiangnuan didn't interrupt the Second in Command. Instead, she waited for him to finish before pointing to the blueprint and saying, "This distance is too long. It's impossible to do it with human power. But if we can build ditches and windmills to divert water, so that the water can flow with the help of natural forces, such as wind, or the power of the water itself, it will save a lot of trouble and effort."
"Is this possible?"
The second-in-command looked at Hei Lao Da uncertainly. Hei Lao Da said nothing, but simply looked at Qin Xiangnuan and nodded without hesitation, saying, "Okay, as long as you say it, we will do as you say." Qin Xiangnuan smiled faintly, taking the credit and pointing to Jiang Lin not far away. "I just proposed an idea. It's thanks to Mr. Jiang's extensive knowledge and memory and his extensive travels that he provided such a good idea."
"So when it comes to specific operations, you still need to listen to him."
Qin Xiangnuan pushed the matter away, and Jiang Lin understood her look. He nodded to the gang leader and the second in command and took the matter over.
"Third Miss, I still have to thank you for what happened to the village. My mother..." The gangster wanted to find a chance to explain to Qin Xiangnuan, but Jiang Lin came over and interrupted him directly, "You ate my wontons yesterday, shouldn't you give me something back today?" Qin Xiangnuan looked up in surprise. Jiang Lin frowned and said unhappily, "I want to eat the noodles you made for me. Make me another bowl and eat it now."
Jiang Lin's tone was stiff, but he kept glancing at the gang leader out of the corner of his eye.
He obviously didn't like the gang leader talking to Qin Xiangnuan any more. The smell of jealousy could be smelled clearly from a distance. Qin Xiangnuan couldn't help but curl her red lips, "If you want to eat, you have to put in some effort yourself. You'll make the noodles yourself today."
"If you want to eat it again in the future, you can cook it yourself!"
Qin Xiangnuan walked in front, listening to the footsteps behind her, and said with a relaxed and teasing tone: "This is a unique secret method, and it will not be passed on casually. I tell you today, you must be grateful. Don't use this bowl of noodles to open a shop in the future! Otherwise, I will share the profits..."
