Chapter 257: Journey to the Border
Led by the police officers, Qin Guang and his family walked all the way to the government office.
The border was indeed a place of exile. They had met people from other places, but each of them looked to be living a much more miserable life than they were.
"Are all of you here together?" The person who handed over to the officer had an impatient look on his face. It seemed that they were tired of doing the same task all day long.
"One person will be here later." The officer said with a smile, but the man handed the list to the officer without saying a word.
"Let's go! Go wait at the back and come over when everyone has arrived!" The man said as he called out to the people behind them.
The officer quickly pulled his hand away, took out the silver that Qin Xiangnuan had prepared long ago, and stuffed it into the man's hand, "Please be flexible. Let these people go first. I will stay here with you and wait for the other person."
The man casually raised his eyelids and glanced at the officer. Although he still looked impatient, he waved his hand and asked the people behind him to wait.
Their handover didn't take too long, but they stood there for half an hour while waiting for their assignment.
"Grandma, you must be tired. Sit down and rest for a while." Qin Xiangnuan frowned as she looked at the old lady Qin's dry mouth.
"It's no problem." Old Madam Qin shook her head.
Their hands and feet were all shackled at this time, and no one could move freely. Fortunately, there were officers who could help them.
"Thank you, big brother." Qin Xiangnuan said to the person who fed Old Madam Qin water.
"Miss Third, there's no need to thank me." The officer was still quite emotional when he arrived at the border.
Tomorrow, the officers escorting the Qin family will return to Beijing to report. Without the care of Qin Xiangnuan and others along the way, the journey will be difficult.
"Lord Xu and the others will be here soon, right?" Qin Xiangnuan smiled at him and then asked.
Counting the time, it was almost time. The officer said to Qin Xiangnuan, "I'll go over and see if the Third Miss has anything to tell me."
The man in front of him was smart. Qin Xiangnuan had a smile on her face. She turned her head and let him look at Qin Xiangsong, who had stopped crying but whose shoulders were still shaking.
"I'm afraid they'll meet later, so I'd like to trouble you to wait for Master Xu outside." Qin Xiangnuan said, "If they come, please stop them."
"No problem." The officer agreed without any hesitation.
Before leaving, he also fed water to the other people.
"Nuannuan, don't you want to drink?" There were a few drops of water spilled on Qin Feng's lips, but because his hands were restrained, he couldn't lift them up to wipe them, so he frowned and rubbed them on his shoulder.
So much so that after looking Qin Xiangnuan in the eye, Qin Xiangnuan could still see his irritability, and half of his face was covered with a black streak.
"I'm not thirsty." Qin Xiangnuan shook her head and then looked at the other people who were exiled here.
Their condition can be described as disheveled, while the Qin family members are clean and tidy, but they are standing here, and it is impossible to tell that they were exiled here.
Therefore, many people's eyes were fixed on them at this time, and Qin Xiangnuan could even hear their whispered conversations.
"I think they have a very good relationship with the police. I just saw the police helping them!" A slightly rough voice sounded.
Then came a sharp, piercing voice, "Aren't they all so destitute? Didn't you see that the man just rubbed the clothes, and his face turned black? I don't know how long he's been wearing these clothes."
"That's right. They only look clean. No one can tell how dirty they are behind the scenes! Just look at those women. They are all fair and tender. I'm afraid they must have been pampered a lot along the way, right?"
Then there were bursts of mocking laughter.
"These dogs can't spit out ivory." Qin Guang and the others naturally heard it, and glared at the group of people who were talking angrily, but the other party didn't care at all.
Qin Xiangnuan looked at them carefully and saw that Qin Guang didn't recognize them either. She didn't know where they were from and they were former officials who were exiled here.
"Disgusting!" Qin Xiangnuan uttered these two words softly, without lowering her voice like them.
The person who spoke heard it clearly.
"You little bitch, who are you talking about?" The sharp voice pierced everyone's ears, making people frown.
"What are you doing! Are you trying to rebel?" Bailiffs holding swords came over and shouted at them.
After the crowd's voices died down, the man called out, "Qin Guang, who is Qin Guang?"
Qin Guang stood up and responded to the yamen runner.
After finding the person, the bailiff simply told them to follow, and the Qin family followed him.
"Mom, I'm scared." When Qin Xiangning saw the shackles on her hands and feet today, she was not afraid because they were put on her by someone she was familiar with in a friendly manner.
But since she saw many people like them, she couldn't help but think of their miserable conditions when they were first exiled, which aroused the fear in her heart.
After hearing Qin Xiangning's voice, Zou realized that she had not spoken for a long time. She thought she was tired, but it turned out that she was frightened.
"Beibei, don't be afraid. We are going to take the things off your hands and feet now." Zou turned around and lowered her head to look at Qin Xiangning who was holding the corner of her clothes tightly.
Qin Feng was behind them and also bent down to comfort Qin Xiangning.
"What are you all doing together?" the bailiff shouted. "Hurry up! Do you want to find a place to stay tonight?"
"Sir, our child is young, so please speak more quietly." Qin Guang said with a frown.
The bailiff snorted coldly, "I know you were a general before, but you don't have the status to be here now. You'd better know your place."
After saying this, the yamen runner shouted a few more words even louder, and swept a provocative look over each of them.
It had been a long time since she had suffered such humiliation. Qin Xiangnuan couldn't control her temper and wanted to step forward to argue.
Qin Guang stopped her, "Nuannuan, forget it, it will be over soon."
After hearing this, the yamen runner sneered, "This is just the beginning, the end? You wish!"
The yamen runners here have seen too many people who were exiled here and didn't survive for more than a few days. Many people died of illness during exile, and those who didn't die would be half-dead when they arrived here.
There are people like the Qin family who have nothing wrong with them, but they are too few and those who were exiled were all officials. How could the whole family stay in this poor and cold place?
"Just wait and see." Qin Xiangnuan also sneered.
When she arrived at the border, Qin Xiangnuan realized that the place was much more desolate than she had imagined.
Many of the business models previously envisioned are no longer suitable for this location. Even the inn needs to come up with a strategy that is more suitable for this place.
However, before Qin Xiangnuan could start thinking about how to adjust, the government's allocation almost made it impossible for them to continue operating the inn.
"How can we not reclaim the wasteland?" Qin Xiangnuan looked up and asked the official without thinking.
"How dare you!" The official lifted the gavel off the table and dropped it down in an instant.
