Chapter 38: Change of Personnel in the Official Post

Chapter 38: Change of Personnel in the Official Post

"If I don't know your benefactor's name, how can I repay him in the future? In this vast world, you are willing to lend a helping hand, but don't ask for anything in return. This puts us in an unfair situation. How can this be justified?" Qin Xiangnuan gave Qin Feng a look, making it clear that she would not let him go until she got an answer today. "Since your benefactor does not want to leave his name, then I can only invite you to accompany me all the way until the repayment is completed."

If Qin Xiangnuan really doesn't want to reason, then it really proves the saying that only villains and women are difficult to raise.

The reinforcements, seeing the injustice, looked at each other in bewilderment, speechless for a long while. After hesitating for a long time, they saw that Qin Xiangnuan really wanted to fight them till the end, so they could only clasp their hands and say, "Miss Qin, please don't mind. We have all received kindness from General Qin Guang, and we are here to repay his kindness. It's really nothing to worry about. If you need us in the future, just let us know."

A favor from the general?

Qin Xiangnuan thought of the young man in white in the capital. She took out the jade pendant from her bosom, placed it in front of them, and asked, "Do you recognize this?"

"This..." Their expressions changed slightly, but they quickly restrained themselves and shook their heads, "I don't know."

It seems that they are in the same group.

Qin Xiangnuan didn't want to force anyone, so she just expressed her gratitude to them and signaled Qin Feng to let them go.

Xu Jian looked at them and said thoughtfully, "The general has many friends in the court. Although they can't help us openly, they are all secretly trying to help us. I think our smooth journey is inseparable from their secret protection."

"I'm afraid these are just their attempts to make themselves feel at ease."

Qin Xiangnuan said disapprovingly, "When the wall falls, everyone pushes it down. From the emperor to the common people, everyone knows that Daddy is innocent, but what's the point? We still have to go to the border? Since you didn't argue for your rights in the court that day, don't expect the whole general's family to thank you for such a comforting act as an audience on Daddy's behalf."

She held the jade pendant in her arms, her eyes cold and solemn.

Add icing on the cake, provide timely assistance, since you can't do it, why bother pretending to be hypocritical.

"I don't think we can stay in Furong Town much longer. We should hurry to the official post station." After saying this, Xu Jian reminded everyone in the general's mansion to put on their shackles and head towards the official post station without delay. They had been walking since morning, and by dusk, they could see the smoke from the official post station ahead. Qin Xiangnuan looked at the red marks on her wrists, turned back to look at the women in the general's mansion, and frowned. It seemed they had to set off as soon as possible.

In front of the official post station, the setting sun was fading, and occasionally two crows were circling in the sky.

Qin Xiangnuan narrowed her eyes and looked at the several black horses tied in the stable in front of the official post station. She always felt that something was wrong.

"This is our document..."

Xu Jian took two steps forward and handed the document to the official postman. After reading it, they looked at everyone in the general's mansion, glanced at Qin Xiangnuan, and said with a hint of inquiry, "After coming here from the capital, I didn't expect that everyone in the general's mansion is still so fair and tender. They don't look like they have suffered much." Hearing this, Xu Jian also smiled and said, "Maybe they have all been keeping fit with the general, so they are a little stronger than ordinary people."

"Come in."

The staff of the official post station moved aside to let a few people in.

"We don't have much room for you at the post station. You can stay in the woodshed. Don't accuse us of mistreating the women; they'll stay in the small rooms on the first floor." The official said, then paused as if thinking of something. He turned to look at Xu Jian and said, "This is Ma Han, Master Ma. After a few days of rest, you can return to the capital. Master Ma will escort the people from the General's Mansion on the rest of your exile."

After the official innkeeper finished speaking, Xu Jian looked in surprise at the man sitting in the corner, drinking and eating meat in big gulps.

"Isn't this a bit inappropriate? I've never heard of replacing people during escort. Besides, we haven't received any orders." Xu Jian frowned and said with a fist cupped fist, "Excuse me, where is Lord Ma from? And who did he receive orders from?" Qin Xiangnuan had been listening quietly beside them. She glanced at Ma Han and others, and a scornful smile appeared at the corner of her lips.

I can't sit still anymore.

"We are following the orders of the Seventh Prince and know that you are colluding with people in the General's Mansion. If you leave quietly, this matter can be resolved. But if you insist on arguing, I'm afraid it will be difficult for you to explain to His Majesty when you return to the capital." Ma Han's eyes flashed with sinister and vicious light. He was clearly threatening Xu Jian and others, using their future as a bet.

Xu Jian, Shou Hou'er and others opened their mouths but didn't dare to say anything else.

Gu Mingqi has some say in the court, and the emperor turns a blind eye to him, which is considered to be a sign of his importance.

If he really wanted to punish the officials who were sent to exile, no one would speak up for Xu Jian and the others. After thinking about it, Xu Jian could only look at Qin Xiangnuan in embarrassment. Qin Xiangnuan raised her hands in the shackles and said, "It's okay. I understand your difficulties."

"Thank you Miss Qin for your understanding."

Xu Jian led them to a small room on the first floor. It was more of a shelter made of a few wooden boards than a room, and the smell of mold and sour food permeated the air. Liu helped Old Lady Qin sit down, while Qin Xiangnuan, Beibei, and Qi went to the room next door.

"Master Ma, can you tell us the truth? Why did the Seventh Prince..." Xu Jian handed over the silver coins in his hand, wanting to find out some inside information for Qin Xiangnuan. But Ma Han was Gu Mingqi's man and was very tight-lipped. He raised his eyes, cut the braised beef in his hand with a dagger, threw it in front of Xu Jian, and said, "These are things that you shouldn't ask about, so don't ask."

The atmosphere inside the inn grew tense and awkward. The bed in the hut was hard and damp, as if someone had just thrown a layer of water on it. Liu padded the bed with a bundle of clothes and asked Old Madam Qin to sit down. Qin Xiangnuan, carrying the heavy shackles, peeked out through the crack in the hut's door.

Apart from Ma Han, there were a few other people in the official post station who seemed to be in the same group as them.

What on earth was Gu Mingqi trying to do here? She narrowed her eyes and suddenly heard a knock on the door. "Deliver the meal," the official said unkindly, pushing a tray through the crack in the door. Qin Xiangnuan frowned as she looked at the bowls of porridge with rice grains floating in them. She brought them to her lips and sniffed gently, sensing a faint scent: the smell of medicine.

"Drink quickly."

The official staff outside the door saw Qin Xiangnuan paused and couldn't help urging, "Who is Qin Xiangnuan? Come out with us, the master has something to ask you!" After Qin Xiangnuan finished drinking the rice porridge, he immediately came in and wanted to take Qin Xiangnuan away.
