Chapter 536: The People Hear

Chapter 536: The People Hear

After all, the emperor was still conceited and his understanding of the ninth prince was insufficient.

It’s not that the Ninth Prince hadn’t thought about doing something even more cruel to him; it was just that the time hadn’t come yet. However, the time was almost here.

Only three days later, earth-shaking changes took place in the entire court.

Some people were talking about it.

"Is the Ninth Prince finally going to take action?"

"The Ninth Prince has grown strong now and wants to fly on his own!"

"The world is changing, the world is changing..."

The common people who were far away from the court were unaware of the intricacies of the imperial city. They lived a stable life, but they did not know that this stability was not their own choice.

The people are nothing more than pawns in the political game, and no one cares about what their lives are like.

On this day, the people saw that there were suddenly many more soldiers and officers on the streets. They all looked ferocious, but they didn't do anything to them. However, this made the people panic.

"What big thing happened recently?"

"Who could know? No one has ever told us."

"How could anyone say that? Well, I tell you, I've heard it."

In an inconspicuous place on the street, a few people gathered. They were talking about things they didn't understand, but they spoke with confidence, as if what they heard was what they saw with their own eyes.

"Hey, don't try to sell us out. Tell us what you heard!"

"That's right, these damned soldiers keep staring at us ordinary people all day long, making it impossible for me to run this shop."

"Don't worry, don't worry." The person who had heard part of the story waved his hand mysteriously at them, "Let me explain it slowly."

As he spoke, the man acted like a street storyteller, stroking his non-existent beard.

"You don't know, do you?"

The others stared at him quietly and shook their heads.

"I've heard about our emperor!" When he said this, even the 'storyteller' had to lower his head and speak to them softly, but after saying this title, the man raised his head and glanced at them.

Hearing that it was something about the emperor, the common people were extremely interested. Who wouldn't be curious about the secrets of the imperial family? Even if they got a glimpse of it, it would be enough to make them look superior to others.

Some people also looked down on this fake gentleman's mystique and did not quite believe that he could know about the imperial city that not even a fly could enter.

"Are you trying to deceive us? Who are you? And where did you hear about this?"

With this questioning, those who were already skeptical began to waver and urged this fake gentleman not to blow his own trumpet.

"Hey, how dare you doubt me like this!" Mr. Fake was almost fuming and glaring at this man to argue with him.

Fortunately, there were a few people who really wanted to listen, regardless of whether they believed it or not, so they pulled the two apart.

"I don't doubt you. Tell us what happened to that person?"

Mr. Fake looked down at him condescendingly, then slowly sat down and smiled at him, "You are indeed a man of good sense. The fact that I dare to say this here proves that what I say is not false."

A scoff rang out from the crowd, and Mr. Fake sneered back, "Just listen. Listen to me, and then you can make your own conclusion."

The person who had suspected him before glanced at him sideways, then turned his head as if to listen to him from a distance. But if you look closely, you can find that this person's ears are secretly trying to gather information.

All I heard was this fake gentleman speaking mysteriously, "I'm afraid he's not going to make it. You've all heard about the Seventh Prince's story, right? Now the truth is out. The Seventh Prince didn't die of a serious illness."

"Aren't we talking about the emperor? Why are we talking about the seventh prince?" Someone didn't hear the exciting part and asked in confusion, looking at Mr. Fake with dissatisfaction.

"Shh!" Mr. Fake was frightened by his voice. This man was listening to the royal secrets but knew nothing about them. Wasn't he afraid that the officers and soldiers nearby would hear him and take him away?

"Just listen to me quietly and don't bring me unnecessary trouble." Mr. Fake looked flustered. He happened to look up and saw a group of soldiers coming from a distance. He quickly sat up straight and winked at others.

"You!" the soldiers shouted from a distance, pointing at them. "What are you all doing gathered here?"

Some timid people were frightened when they heard the sound and actually got up and ran away. Seeing this, the officers and soldiers did not care about anything else and ran after them.

This solved the problem of the remaining people. After the officers and soldiers disappeared from their sight, the people urged Mr. Fake to continue speaking as if nothing had happened.

"Hurry up and say it, then we won't interrupt!"

Mr. Fake nodded with feigned reserve, and then continued to tell them the story in the slow tone he had learned from the storyteller.

I'm afraid even Mr. Fake himself doesn't know how much of this is true and how much is exaggerated.

But this is not important. Mr. Fake got satisfaction from the astonished faces of the people around him. He drank a cup of tea calmly and then admired their reactions.

"Is what you just said true?" The person who was listening to the story looked up from shock and asked Mr. Fake.

"Of course it's true." Mr. Fake frowned, "Otherwise, why do you think there are so many soldiers in this city all of a sudden?"

"This...this..." The man couldn't explain the reason and could only believe and doubt the story.

But there were also some people who, for some unknown reason, believed Mr. Fake's words without a doubt.

"That's what I was thinking. It turns out someone is planning a rebellion!"

"I've never heard of the Ninth Prince before, so how come he's planning a rebellion right away?"

"Well, it could be a rebellion, right? I know that if it were a rebellion, someone would definitely want to break into the imperial city, kill the emperor, and then become the emperor themselves."

"I think you're right. There are just a few more soldiers on the road now. We're probably overthinking it."

It turns out that these people only care about what is happening in front of them and just want to live a simple life. As long as no one threatens their lives at this moment, everything has nothing to do with them.

"Are you stupid?" Someone, perhaps more knowledgeable, listened to these remarks and said with regret, "If the emperor changes his mind, won't the regulations also change? Will they impose more taxes?"

Maybe... I just understand a little bit more, and I don't feel what the real threat to myself is behind such things.

However, this sentence really caused panic.
