Chapter 70: Throwing a tantrum and scolding
Qin Yi and Qin Feng exerted all their strength, their palms firmly pressed against the rock wall. With a roar, the massive rock rolled down, crashing towards the foot of the mountain. Kong Wu and the others had been advancing rapidly, assuming they were exhausted from firing the signal and hoping to catch them all in one fell swoop. However, they were caught off guard by the sudden and unexpected impact. The massive rock smashed through several sturdy trees, sending countless branches, carrying the rock, crashing down with a crackling sound.
The hillside of Phoenix Mountain was bare, with nowhere to hide. Kong Wu watched the rocks fall, stepped on the cliff beside him, leaped up, and landed lightly on a branch in mid-air. Over a dozen of his men, some unable to dodge, and those standing in the front were inevitably crushed beneath the rocks, reduced to pulp. Kong Wu frowned at his companions, but his face betrayed no sadness or grief.
They were just fellow disciples.
As a child, Kong Wu joined Gu Mingqi's death squad camp. To select the most ruthless and powerful death squads, they fought weekly, eating and sleeping with friends who had fought alongside them. Gu Mingqi seemed like a twisted man, trapping all the children in cages made of silver wire. The only way to escape alive was to kill them.
Death or survival?
Faced with the choice of fate, they can only keep killing their friends and become the most cold-blooded killing machines.
Qin Xiangnuan observed Kong Wu from the shadows. "He's truly skilled!" A flicker of excitement flashed in her eyes, the fighting spirit stirring. As a secret agent, she longed to encounter an equal opponent. Only when faced with desperate odds could she unleash her body's greater potential. Under normal circumstances, Qin Xiangnuan would have charged forward and exchanged hundreds of rounds with Kong Wu.
But not now, her goal is to get out of this unscathed.
"Anliu, shoot!" Qin Xiangnuan shouted, and Anliu, as if he had been waiting for this for a long time, raised his crossbow and aimed at the charging warriors. The arrows accurately pierced the shoulders of several warriors in the front row. At first, they didn't feel any pain. They gritted their teeth and pulled the arrows out of their bodies, raising their legs to attack. But after taking two steps, they lost control of every muscle in their bodies and staggered to the ground, their mouths twitching.
"Oh no! It's poisonous!"
When the assassins saw the situation, they immediately retreated.
They hid in a blind spot where Qin Xiangnuan could not observe them. Kong Wu narrowed his eyes and said, "I didn't expect that the general's mansion is full of hidden talents. All the capable people are here." He wiped his teeth, with some interest in his eyes.
After waiting a moment, Kong Wu picked up a stone and threw it toward the open space ahead. The moment the stone flew, an arrow pierced through it, splitting it in two. "It looks like they've been watching us. Take a few people and go around from behind. Remember, don't let them see you. The rest of you, follow me as I go around the front, picking up stones from the ground to block your vital parts."
"That poison won't kill anyone. Once we kill everyone in the General's Mansion, the Seventh Prince will naturally reward us handsomely when he returns."
Kong Wu encouraged the others, and they followed his orders, slowly advancing according to the plan. Kong Wu looked up at the lush green trees in the distance, whispering in a voice only he could hear, "Who are you?" He could sense the presence of a powerful being within the woods, someone capable of rivaling him. This made Kong Wu grow cautious.
"This is where things get interesting."
He did not act rashly, but hid in the dark and observed the situation.
In the cave atop Phoenix Mountain, Liu worriedly tried to peek outside. Just as she was about to stand, she was pulled down by someone beside her and pinned to the ground. Rubbing her shoulder in pain, Liu turned back to see Qi's eyes glowing in the darkness. "You want to die? Don't take me with you! If they find you, no one here will survive!" Qi, hiding in the innermost area, held Qin Xiangsong tightly in her arms, lowering her voice to a whisper.
"But Nuannuan..."
Liu felt a slight pain in her shoulder. Zou hurried over and glared at Qi, saying, "How can you only care about yourself?"
"If a man doesn't work for himself, he will be punished by heaven and earth. Since Qin Xiangnuan let us hide in here, she must have considered the consequences. You have no choice. Running out is seeking death. It's better for you to stay here honestly." Qi's eyes rolled, and she looked at the cloth bags held by Zou and Liu with greed in her eyes. "Now that we are facing a great disaster, why don't you take out all the things and divide them according to the number of people. If we really encounter an accident, there will be a few people who can survive."
"I remember you had wild boar meat on you. Where is it?"
Qi pounced with all her might, tearing at the package with all her might. Seeing the strips of cloth about to rip, Liu couldn't help but grow furious. For the first time, she sternly scolded, "Not to mention that we're not out of ammunition and food yet, even if it were a matter of life and death, it's not your turn to share this. Lao Er and Nuan Nuan are out there fighting to protect us, and you're not hoping they'll come back soon, yet you're here saying such things."
"How about I divide the things? I am doing this just to stay alive!"
Qi refused to give up, her eyes darting towards Madam Qin, figuring that she had been breathing heavily for a while, but now she was glowing again. Qin Xiangnuan must have secretly found some goodies for her to use, presumably hiding them on her body. With this in mind, Qi gave up arguing with Liu and walked towards the old lady.
Before she reached the old lady, a figure blocked her way.
"How long do you want to make such a fuss?" Qin Wen stared at her with anger on his face, "Why don't you go back quickly and stay quiet!" Qin Wen has always been weak and gentle. Even in the quarrel that happened some time ago, when Qi was clamoring for a divorce, he never said a harsh word and his face never got red.
But now, he finally couldn't help it and poked Qi's nose with his hand, "Go back!"
After Qin Wen said these three words in such an insulting way, his entire belief collapsed. He frowned in pain. Qi had never expected him to act like this. She stood there in a daze, unable to recover for a long time. After a long while, she took a deep breath and sat cross-legged on the ground, slapping her legs like a woman throwing a tantrum on the street. "I really didn't expect you to be such a person..."
"I've been married to you for many years, but what good have I gained? Everyone says the general's mansion is glorious, but who knows my hardships!"
"You're a worthless person. I'm unlucky to follow you, but now I have to die here with you. It's simply God's cruelty!"
