Chapter 35: Fear of Heights
"roar……"
Just when Qin Xiangnuan was convinced she was doomed, a pair of broad bear paws slapped her away, and the next second, she fell into a warm embrace. The brown bear curled up around her body, tightly protecting the petite girl in its arms. She roared, enduring the sharp pain of the rocks falling on her body.
"Cousin! Cousin, are you okay?"
When Qin Feng and the others heard the sound of the brown bear, they hurried over and dug up the stones piled on them.
Qin Xiangnuan didn't care about her messy hair and clothes, and ran to the brown bear to check her injuries.
Her two feet were already injured, and this time, in order to protect her back, she also had countless small wounds, all of which were scratched by sharp stones. Fortunately, her life was not in danger.
"Thank you."
Qin Xiangnuan didn't expect that her unintentional action would bring such good results.
She rubbed the brown bear's head with her hands. The huge guy rubbed against her palm, shaking its hair and showing a silly smile, as if saying to Qin Xiangnuan, "I'm fine." Qin Feng helped Qin Xiangnuan stand up. Because she couldn't dodge in time, her ankle was slightly sprained.
"Nuannuan, come and sit down."
Zou brought her to the straw ball she had brought with her, and holding her shoulders, her face full of worry, she glared at Qin Feng and said, "You don't even know how to follow Nuannuan and protect her? Do you always let your sister do the things when it comes to going out to find things? What do you usually cook for food?"
"Mom! I..." Qin Feng stood there helplessly, mumbling with a face full of grievance, "I can't find it even if I go."
He had searched the same place carefully many times, but supplies only appeared when Qin Xiangnuan went there. Sometimes he suspected that his little cousin was a fairy from heaven who could make things appear with just a breath of air.
But Qin Feng didn't dare to say these things, nor did he know how to say them. If he said them, he would be beaten up.
In addition, Qin Yi's complaints were disappointing.
"Come here, let me take a look at your wound." Qin Xiangnuan applied safflower oil to her ankle, looked up at the mother brown bear hiding far away with her children, and waved to her.
The brown bear swayed its body as it moved closer, and lay down beside her obediently, its dark eyes rolling. Suddenly, as if it had thought of something, it pushed Qin Xiangnuan's knees with its broad paws, and arched its head against her waist, eagerly expressing something.
Qin Xiangnuan was a little confused. She tilted her head and paused, looking in the direction the brown bear was pointing.
Is that the cliff where the rubble fell?
The brown bear couldn't speak, and she was so anxious that she turned around and around on the spot, using her claws to dig at the small stones on the ground and pushing them with great effort.
Could it be that—Qin Xiangnuan frowned, and a flash of inspiration came to her mind.
She looked at Qin Yi, walked over and whispered, "Second Uncle, please go and check the situation up there. Be sure to come back before dark. If you encounter any danger, release this thing! If we see it, we will naturally rush over to help you..."
Qin Xiangnuan handed the flare in her hand over. Qin Yi didn't know her intention, so he immediately left with the dagger in his pocket.
A few dark clouds floated across the sky, and a hint of ruthlessness flashed across Qin Xiangnuan's eyes. She was just waiting for Qin Yi to bring back the answer she wanted.
There were a few rumbling thunders, and it looked like a heavy rain was about to fall.
All the things they carried with them had fallen into the swamp. If it rained, no one in the general's mansion would survive.
Qin Xiangnuan stood up with the help of the ground, supported her body weight with one foot, and skipped forward. The squeaking pain in her ankle made her grit her teeth and gasp.
"roar……"
When she was tired and sweating, she suddenly felt something furry pressing against her from under her.
Qin Xiangnuan looked down and found that the mother bear's cub was resting its limbs on the ground, shaking its head, motioning for her to sit on it.
"Good boy!" Qin Xiangnuan looked at his body size and thought he should be able to support her weight. She didn't refuse and helped him sit on the bear's back. They found a place full of banana trees in the Savage Valley, and said, "Cousin! Come to work!"
Qin Xiangnuan turned around and shouted, and Qin Feng immediately pushed aside the grass and ran to her side.
"Find a few large, sturdy banana leaves and pick them off. We need to build a shelter as soon as possible." Qin Xiangnuan looked up and felt the wind in the Savage Valley getting stronger and stronger. She estimated that the heavy rain would fall in two hours. "Hurry up! Climb up, I'll catch up below!"
Qin Feng has always been afraid of heights. Looking at the treetops that were some distance from the ground, he felt dizzy and began to shake.
"Cousin, let's discuss this. Is there any other solution? How about...getting some clothes?"
Qin Feng kept stalling for time while walking under the banana tree. He patted the tree gently, watching it shaking unsteadily, and said with a trembling voice, "Is the one below not okay?" His pupils trembled violently, and his face was full of grievance.
Qin Xiangnuan didn't answer, but hugged her shoulders and shook her head.
"If my ankle wasn't sprained, I'd go up by myself. Hurry up! This is the only thing that can keep you out of the wind and rain. You don't want your grandmother to get sick from the rain at night, do you?"
Qin Xiangnuan urged him, and Qin Feng wiped the sweat from his face with his hand, gritted his teeth, and climbed up while holding onto the tree trunk.
When he climbed to the center and looked down, he immediately felt the world spinning.
"Don't look! Go up a few steps, pick it up and throw it down!"
Qin Xiangnuan cupped her hands and placed them to her lips, loudly cheering Qin Feng on. "Don't you want to show your uncle that you can do things? I promise you, when I see Daddy, I will tell him all about your heroic deeds today!"
"Seriously?"
Qin Feng asked excitedly, looking down, and was so scared that he almost let go of his hands and fell down.
He managed to steady himself, and Qin Xiangnuan nodded helplessly.
Is this the power of idols? To Qin Feng, his own father couldn't compare to his uncle. In his eyes, Qin Guang, the general who defended the country, was a being higher than the sky. Motivated, Qin Feng hugged the trunk with one hand and quickly tore off more than a dozen banana leaves.
When he landed, his clothes were soaked with cold sweat.
Qin Xiangnuan held the banana leaf and rode on the brown bear back to the campsite. She told Zou and Liu what needed to be done. They quickly got busy. Only Qi sat in the corner holding Qin Xiangsong, with no intention of helping at all.
Qin Feng did a good job. The banana leaves were enough to build a shelter that could accommodate more than ten people.
Qin Xiangnuan had deliberately chosen a spot against the wall to block some of the wind. She watched the sun gradually set, looking anxiously towards the cliff. Only when she saw Qin Yi did she hurriedly stand up and ask, "Uncle! How's it going?"
