Chapter 208 Forced Marriage
Bai Li didn't need her elder brother's consent. She picked out ten pheasants, ten rabbits, and two wild sheep. She used the excuse of going out to give someone a gift, turned around and threw them into the space, asking Jinmao to take care of them.
Bai Dalang watched his sister take away so much prey without stopping her. He thought that she was feeling upset, so he let her do whatever she wanted and let her calm down.
He is just being mean to tease his sister, not that he doesn't love her.
Bai Dalang didn't say anything, Li didn't say anything, and no one in the family dared to say anything about her.
Li Mingyue smiled and shook her head. The whole family spoiled Li'er, and she didn't know whether it was good or bad.
The family was busy killing chickens and pigs.
Fortunately, there were many people, including several strong young men. The men were diligent and the women were quick, and before nightfall, they had cleaned up all the prey and food.
That night, the Bai family was finally able to eat the meat they had been longing for.
Bai Li killed a big snake in the morning, and now he killed two pheasants and put them in to make soup. It is the famous dragon and phoenix soup, which is nutritious and delicious.
One big snake was a bit too much, and with two pheasants and other dishes, the Bai family couldn't finish it in one meal.
Bai Li remembered that Aunt Mu had spoken up for her in the morning, so she told Grandma Li that she wanted to give some meat to someone.
Li naturally agreed. Bai Li brought a small earthenware jar and filled it with dragon and phoenix soup with more meat and less soup, and wanted to send it to Aunt Mu.
"Li'er, why did you suddenly think of sending meat to Aunt Mu?"
Li was curious and asked more questions.
"Nothing. This morning when I went to look for my mother, I was pestered by Widow Wu, and Aunt Mu helped me."
Bai Li spoke casually. She had long since stopped worrying about what happened in the morning, but it was a fact that someone had helped her, and she would always remember this favor.
Thinking of this, she remembered that another aunt had helped her. She didn't know where her home was, so she simply asked Aunt Mu to help pass it on. She then turned around and took a pheasant to thank her.
"That Widow Wu is such a chatterbox. What did she say about you?"
"Grandma, I'm going to go first. I'll talk to you when I come back."
Bai Li went out with a clay pot in one hand and a pheasant in the other.
“This kid!”
Li laughed and scolded, then saw that the food was ready, and told Aunt Bai and several daughters-in-law to set the table and start eating.
When the dishes and food were placed on the table, Bai Li came back with his arms swinging.
"You're back just in time!"
"What do you care?"
Bai Dalang said it casually, and Bai Li immediately retorted.
Who told him not to take her with him when going hunting today!
The family sat at two separate tables, and the food on the table was as sumptuous as during the Chinese New Year.
Before picking up his chopsticks, Li said a few words using water instead of wine.
"Today we have a rare family reunion. Our Bai family members are able to return safely from the battlefield again. First of all, we thank God for his blessings and for the peace and prosperity of our Great Zhou.
Then thank the ancestors for their protection, for blessing our Bai family to prosper, for the safety of the men and women of the Bai family, and for continuing to protect the Great Zhou and our homeland."
After Li finished speaking, she raised the cup above her head and drank it in one gulp.
Bai Zongren and others also raised the soup bowls in front of them and took a sip of the soup instead of wine.
Li picked up his chopsticks, and the family officially started eating.
Bai Li ate with his belly full and was so satisfied. The soup was delicious and the pork was fragrant. The whole family ate so much without even raising their heads.
After dinner, Bai Li was called aside by Li for questioning.
"Tell grandma quickly, what happened this morning?"
"Nothing much. Widow Wu stopped me and wanted to marry me to her son Ergou."
"What?! Where does she get the courage?!"
Li was so angry that she slammed the table and stood up.
She was not prejudiced against the Widow Wu's son, but the Widow Wu's son was a fool who dared to covet her daughter!
If this isn’t bullying, what is?
"Grandma, what's wrong?"
Several grandchildren heard the noise and ran over, thinking that Bai Li had annoyed their grandmother.
"Grandma, big sister/sister didn't mean it. Calm down. I'll talk to her later."
"Although my sister was a little naughty, she didn't mean what she said. Grandma, don't take it to heart."
Bai Li...
She looked coldly at the men from the Bai family who came and accused her of crimes without saying a word. She wanted to see what crimes her good brothers and sisters could fabricate for her.
Mrs. Li: Don’t think she can’t see it. These guys are worried about her on the surface, but in fact they are trying to excuse their younger sister/elder sister. They are afraid that she will do something to her!
"Okay, your chattering is giving me a headache, so I'll just talk to Li'er for a while, and you guys can go play your own things."
"No, grandma, are you really okay?"
Bai Dalang looked at his grandmother's face carefully, thinking that if his sister really made his grandmother angry, he would have to help coax her back.
"It's okay. I'm angry about something else. It has nothing to do with Li'er."
When the brothers heard that Bai Li was not involved, they said a few words to their elder sister, "Don't upset grandma," and left.
"You, don't blame your brothers for being nosy. They just care about you!"
"Granny, I know."
Bai Li was obviously a little unhappy, and Li noticed it.
"Forget it, let her say what she wants, and we just don't agree to it. There's no need to get angry about it."
Before Bai Li could persuade her, Li had already let it go.
She didn't mean to hold on to it, but she was disgusted by Widow Wu forcing her to agree.
Forget it. She didn't suffer any loss in this matter anyway. She had threatened Widow Wu before, so she probably wouldn't dare to have such evil thoughts again.
If she dares to do it again, she will let her know who not to offend.
Widow Wu's matter was not on the priority list. The problem now was...
"Grandma, Aunt Mu just said she wanted to arrange a marriage for me. She said it was the son of a county magistrate in the county town, but I declined."
Bai Li glanced at grandma carefully to see her reaction.
"The county magistrate's son, at least this one is more reliable.
Mu Jinhua is a straightforward and reliable person. I believe there is nothing wrong with the county magistrate's son. Li'er, you shouldn't refuse so hastily. You should come back and talk to your family before making a decision."
Li knew that her granddaughter had made great contributions this time and was granted the title of Princess by the Emperor.
But a divorced woman will always be criticized. If the county magistrate's son is a young talent and is a first-time married woman, this marriage would be a good match.
"Granny! I'm only sixteen years old!"
Bai Li got furious when she heard what her grandmother meant. She didn't want to be forced into marriage by her family at such a young age.
Her wonderful life has not yet begun, and she has not yet started to live the days of lying down and doing bad things. She doesn't want to be confined to a small world to take care of her husband and children!
"What's wrong with sixteen? Your father was born when I was sixteen!"
"No, I have two older brothers. It's not my turn yet, right?"
Seeing that he couldn't argue with his grandmother, Bai Li had to drag his two brothers into it.
I'm sorry, brother. As a brother, I have to take the responsibility for my sister when necessary. Besides, what she said is true.
