Chapter 18 A noble person's help
"A bunch of unruly people! How can you make such a noise in front of the government post station? Quickly pack up these rubbish and get out!"
The joyful atmosphere in the clearing in the forest was broken by a loud shout.
A well-dressed middle-aged man rushed over with two servants, looking ferocious.
The Su family had just gathered together, and after some crying and laughing, they were just about to eat so they could continue on their journey, but they didn't expect to encounter this.
The eldest and second Su were young and hot-tempered. When they heard the other party rushing over and cursing and chasing him away rudely, they stood up and wanted to argue with him, but were stopped in time by the old lady Su.
"I'm so sorry, sir. We'll leave now." Old Lady Su held back her anger and humbly signaled her son and daughter-in-law to pack up and leave. It was obvious that the other party had some background, and ordinary people like them couldn't afford to offend them.
Her original intention was to make a big deal out of a small matter and settle the matter peacefully. She thought that if she kept her head down and made a gesture, the other party would just stop pressuring her, and the matter would just pass. However, she didn't expect that the other party didn't think so at all.
Seeing the dissatisfaction in Su Da and Su Er's eyes, the middle-aged man sneered, "Wait, where are you from? Where are you going? Show me your pass! Look at your beggar-like attire, you must be vagrants committing crimes! Our dynasty has an order that if you encounter unidentified vagrants, you can escort them to the government office for trial. If they resist, you can kill them on the spot!"
Since ancient times, the people have not fought against officials, and the people have a natural fear of officials.
No matter how fierce Old Lady Su was, her face turned pale with fear after hearing what the middle-aged man said. The three little kids in the Su family were so frightened that they hugged their parents tightly and cried.
"Your Excellency, please understand. We are not refugees!" Old Man Su hurried forward, kneeling with his family. With trembling hands, he pulled out the official seal of exile from his bosom, raised his hands and handed it over, saying urgently, "My family, surnamed Su, was implicated by a distant relative and sentenced to exile. We are now on our way to the place of exile. Although we are awaiting punishment, everyone in our family, young and old, is clean and has never committed any crime. We are definitely not refugees wandering around committing crimes!"
The current situation does not allow them to reveal their identities.
North Vietnamese laws do have clear provisions that refugees of unknown identity can be handed over to the authorities or beaten and killed.
This was also the reason why, despite being exiled, the government dared to let them go on their own to face the charges. If they dared to escape, they would become refugees, a fate even worse than exile.
Now the middle-aged man was obviously putting things in a difficult position for them. If they did not admit their criminal status by showing off their status as exiles, the other party might use this as an excuse to beat their entire family to death on the spot.
"So they're a bunch of criminals. They're carrying a crime but still don't know how to restrain themselves. They even dare to glare at me. What despicable things!" The middle-aged man didn't even check the documents handed to him by the old man. With a sneer, he ordered, "Come here, teach them a lesson!"
The two servants immediately drew whips from their waists and were about to go forward and beat him.
The Su family, young and old, all huddled together with pale faces, angry but not daring to speak.
The middle-aged man obviously wanted to beat them up to vent his anger. Common people like them had lives as insignificant as ants and were as lowly as dust in the face of power, making them completely unable to resist.
Su Da and Su Er knew that they were in trouble, so the two young men stood in front of their family, gritting their teeth and preparing to endure the beating.
Tianbao was held tightly in the arms of old lady Su, and was protected behind him by the couple Su Da and Su Er. The adults had no time to pay attention to anything else at the moment, and no one noticed that the little baby in the blanket had cold eyes and a strange red light floating in his eyes.
Because of the environment in his previous life, Tianbao is ignorant of human nature and has not received any education.
She didn't know what was black and what was white. She only knew that someone wanted to beat her grandparents, her parents, her uncles and aunts, and her three brothers.
An unfamiliar feeling of anger grew in Tianbao's chest, surging with force.
In a mysterious space that no one could see, several sharp pear branches were pointed at the middle-aged man and two servants.
Just as Lizhi was ready to shoot, another cold shout stopped the chaos.
"Stop!" The young woman's voice was not loud, but it was intimidating.
The two aggressive servants stopped subconsciously.
Everyone looked towards the source of the sound.
Wherever you look, it's a feast for the eyes.
The young and beautiful woman wore a brocade dress and a lake green rabbit fur cape over her skirt. She walked gracefully, elegantly and dignifiedly, exuding a noble air.
She was holding the hand of a beautifully dressed little boy of three or four years old, with a middle-aged nanny leading the way and two beautiful maids following behind.
This kind of scene is definitely not something an ordinary family can have.
The middle-aged man recognized the guests as the distinguished guests who had just arrived at the post station. He did not dare to neglect them and restrained his arrogant expression. "But are these people disturbing your rest, Madam? Wait a moment, Madam, I will chase them away!"
The beautiful woman approached, smiled, shook her head, and said to the middle-aged man, "Manager Zhang, you're wrong. They're just borrowing this place to rest. They didn't cause any disturbance in the post station, nor did they offend any passing travelers. Let them be merciful when you can. Why are you beating and killing them?"
The steward heard this and knew that the woman must have seen everything that had just happened. He said firmly, "Madam, you don't know, these are the criminals who have committed crimes in the family. They are not cautious and dare to speak and act recklessly. They should be taught a lesson!"
"Even if they are criminals, the government will determine their guilt and sentence them. Furthermore, they are on their way to exile, so they are abiding by the law. The steward has no reason to discipline them. Saying they are disturbing the peace of the post station is even more far-fetched. All under heaven belongs to the king, and I have never heard that this official road belongs to the post station or to you, the steward. Ordinary people can't stay here."
Hearing the beautiful woman defending these criminals, Manager Zhang's face darkened and he looked displeased.
He was able to become a manager at the post station because he had some background. He had met all kinds of people over the years and knew countless powerful people. He thought he had some foundation.
Now that he was being scolded in public, Manager Zhang was humiliated and started to speak rudely.
"Madam, you seem to come from a decent background, so why do you always speak in favor of these low-class people? They are all criminals. Are you trying to protect the criminals by making excuses for them?"
"How dare you!" Matron Kailu shouted coldly, flashing a token to Manager Zhang. "How dare you speak disrespectfully to a noble? I think you're tired of living!"
The steward had been at the post station for many years and was well-informed. When he saw the token, his face changed drastically. He was so frightened that his lips turned pale and trembled. He immediately knelt down and apologized, "I was blind. Please forgive me, madam!"
The Su family stood there in a daze, caught off guard by how things had turned out.
The manager who was just so high and mighty, suddenly knelt down and bowed?
Who is the noble person who came forward to help them out?
The Su family didn’t dare to think about it, nor could they think of it, but at least they still had some tact.
A crisis was easily resolved by a noble person, who saved their family from physical pain. The Su family knelt down to express their gratitude.
