Chapter 2: Difficult Family Situation

Chapter 2: Difficult Family Situation

As soon as the main room was cleaned up, the six men in the kitchen couldn't wait and rushed over.

Old Man Su, the eldest son Su Jiang and his son Su An, the second son Su He and his two sons Su Wen and Su Wu were all standing outside the door curtain.

"Old lady, how are you? Are the adults and children all right?" Old man Su asked loudly through the door curtain.

The old woman from the Su family immediately spitted and scolded from inside the room, "The baby has been born, mother and daughter are safe, how can we cheer?"

He was met with a few retorts as soon as he asked. Old Man Su cleared his throat and quietly retreated.

I feel relieved.

Both mother and daughter are safe, and the eldest daughter-in-law gave birth to a little girl for the family.

Knowing he had a daughter, Su Da's face was filled with joy and a silly smile. "Mom, can I lift the curtain to take a look?"

After saying that, he couldn't wait to reach out and lift a corner of the door curtain to see his wife and daughter in the room.

As soon as he stretched out his hand and touched the edge of the door curtain, he was hit precisely by someone in the room.

With a snap, the back of my hand immediately felt hot.

Su Da, "..." Mother didn't hold back at all.

"What are you looking at? It's freezing cold, even dogs wouldn't move. You lifted the curtain and a cold wind blew in. How can a newborn cub stand the wind now? This isn't your first time being a father, how come you still don't understand?" The old woman scolded him angrily, "Go to the kitchen, take out a handful of rice from the rice jar, and make some rice porridge for Xiaobao first."

After a pause, he ordered, "Second brother, kill the old hen at home and bring the pot of chicken soup!"

The old woman barked out orders repeatedly. No one else in the family said anything. Liu Yuelan was the first to get anxious. She struggled to sit up and said, "Mom, just make some rice soup for Xiaobao. Let's keep the old hen. She can lay eggs when the weather warms up—"

Before she could finish her words, the old woman glared at her, "Am I the boss or are you? That old hen hasn't laid an egg in half a month. It's a waste of rice to keep it!"

Seeing her mother-in-law's face darken, the second daughter-in-law hurriedly poked Liu Yuelan's arm, signaling her to be quiet.

Usually, the two sisters-in-law are responsible for cooking, and they know what the situation is at home.

The rice jar had long been empty, and the remaining rice could not fill a measuring cylinder.

That old hen was the only living thing in the house that was worth some money.

The mother-in-law said this just to find an excuse to nourish her eldest daughter-in-law.

If you don’t eat good food to nourish your body right after giving birth, the adult won’t produce milk and the baby will go hungry.

Liu Yuelan's eyes were slightly red, and she said nothing more, feeling grateful for her mother-in-law's kindness.

Outside the house, Su Da's eyes were slightly red. After the joy of becoming a father again, the bitterness of a difficult life followed.

Seeing this, Su Er patted his shoulder vigorously and said, "Don't be so pretentious at this time! I'm going to catch chickens!"

Su Da wiped his eyes and walked towards the kitchen with the three children. "Okay, I'll boil some water!"

It is a good thing that my daughter-in-law gave birth safely. We really can't be pretentious at this time. Delivery is the first hurdle, and the second hurdle is not over yet.

Next, we must ensure that the whole family can survive the winter safely.

Old Man Su stood by the door curtain with his hands behind his back without moving. He waited until the children had left before he sighed, turned his head to look at the falling snowflakes outside the house, and frowned.

"What are you still standing here for?" A corner of the door curtain was lifted, and the face of Old Lady Su appeared behind the curtain. The pink profile of the newborn baby was faintly visible in the cradle in her arms.

Old Man Su's eyes wrinkled with smiles, knowing that his wife was holding the baby up to show him a look to satisfy his curiosity.

His eyes glued to his granddaughter's face, filled with joy and reluctance, Old Man Su said, "It's cold. Quickly draw the curtains to keep the child out of the wind. I don't know when the snow will stop. I'll go out and sweep the snow off the roof and reinforce the doors and windows... By the way, old woman, where did you put my quiver?"

Mrs. Su's face immediately turned cold, and the door curtain fell down. A loud voice came from behind the curtain, "What quiver? I don't have it!"

The old man is so old, and he doesn't even look at his own old arms and legs to see if they can withstand it. He still wants to go hunting with a quiver?

What kind of weather is this? Even strong young men wouldn't dare run into the mountains at this time!

“…”

Old Man Su didn't dare to say anything. He retreated with his nose touched, found a bamboo broom from the house, and went to sweep the snow.

"Yaobao" listened to all of this, smacked his lips, closed his eyes and fell asleep.

When I woke up again, there was a faint aroma of rice in my nose.

"My sister is awake! Grandma, Mom! My sister is awake!"

Following a childish cry, a large group of people gathered around.

Xiaobao was still in a daze when she felt a pair of hands gently holding her up. When they got close, the warm breath made her feel inexplicably close.

She was stunned. This feeling was so strange. She had never been treated like this before.

Yaobao raised her eyes and saw the young face of a woman. She was looking at her with eyes full of love and tenderness.

"Little baby, you're awake. Are you hungry? Mommy will feed you some rice soup."

Even the tone of voice when speaking was softer than Yaobao had ever heard before.

Because she had never experienced it, Yaobao didn't actually understand what love and tenderness were. She only knew that when the woman hugged her and talked to her like this, she suddenly wanted to cry.

But Yaobao didn't understand why she wanted to cry, so she tried hard to hold back her tears.

When she was in the laboratory, the people in white coats would prick her with needles and insert tubes into her body every day. The pain was so severe that her body felt like it was about to be torn apart. She cried at first, but later on, she stopped crying.

She understood a truth there.

Crying is useless.

"Mom, rice soup! Rice soup! Feed my sister quickly, she's hungry! She's sucking her lips!" The little boy who was squeezed at the front of the crowd spoke again in a hurry.

This attracted two smaller boys to rush over to serve the rice soup, "Sister is hungry! I'll serve the rice soup!"

"I'll serve!"

"I'll serve!"

The rice soup was just served and placed on the old, mottled four-legged wooden table at the head of the bed, still steaming.

Worried that the two kids might spill the rice soup, a large hand took the bowl first and said, "Go away! Stop making a fuss! If you spill it, your sister won't have anything to eat!"

He Daxiang carefully picked up the rice soup and kicked her two sons aside to prevent them from getting in the way.

This bowl of rice oil was made from the last handful of rice in the house.

My sister-in-law's milk hasn't come in yet, and if the rice soup spills again, Xiaobao will really starve.

The newborn baby can't survive without food in such cold weather.

Su Da was perched at the head of the bed. It was so hard for him to come in and see his daughter. He couldn't bear to move his eyes away and just kept grinning. He was a bit slow to react, but now he finally knew how to take over. "Sister-in-law, let me do it!"

"What are you doing here? You rough-handed old man, don't feed rice soup to Xiaobao's nose. Get out of the way!" The gray cloth curtain was lifted, and the cold wind blew in through the gap. Old woman Su came in with a rough porcelain bowl, quickly lowered the curtain, and shouted at the man to go away, "Xiaobao, I'll feed him!"

Then he said to Liu Yuelan, "The chicken soup is ready. Drink it while it's hot so that Xiaobao can have milk next time."
