Chapter 14 The Last Feast

The sound is soft and nice.

Wen Xi handed the gourd over and said, "Open your mouth, I'll give you something good."

Gu Shengmo had drunk bird's nest porridge before, but he couldn't understand why he could drink it here. However, it didn't stop him from admiring his elder sister, because his elder sister could produce endless good things.

Gu Shengmo pushed the gourd until he couldn't drink any more.

Wen Xi then picked it up and held it towards his aunt.

Aunt Mao was startled. When she touched it, she found it was a huge gourd! How did her daughter hide such a large gourd? Even if she was not very smart, she could still sense that something was wrong.

What's more, he was forced to drink a mouthful of bird's nest, and the thing in his mouth made him so stunned that he couldn't speak.

After another gulp of wine was swallowed, Aunt Mao quickly pulled Wen Xi's hand away.

"Xi'er...where did you get all these things?"

Thinking about all the food Wen Xi had taken out recently, it was definitely not something that could be hidden on her body.

"Ah... Auntie, I can't explain this to you right now. I'll tell you when I have the chance. What's important now is that we get out alive."

Aunt Mao was silent for a while, but still resolutely pushed the gourd back.

"Well, we'll talk about it later. Just drink it quickly! Auntie is not hungry."

Wen Xi tilted her head to look at the invisible person in the darkness, and her instinct was to trust this person who had been her mother for a few days.

He smiled broadly at the person across from him, raised his gourd, and began to drink.

He shook the bird's nest, which was not much left, and raised it again, "Auntie, I can't drink it anymore."

Aunt Mao refused:

"Leave it for you two to drink when you're hungry."

"But if you don't drink it, it will go bad tomorrow, and it's not convenient during the day."

Aunt Mao didn't know what to say. She finally realized that her daughter was becoming more and more stubborn. She had no choice but to pick it up and drink it all.

Perhaps it was because they had food in their stomachs, or perhaps it was because the bird's nest was so effective, but the three of them actually fell into a drowsy sleep.

It was not until dawn that I was awakened by various groaning sounds.

What was special today was not only the wailing that filled the entire cell, but also the early arrival of the meal.

In the past, we would not eat until the sun set, but today we came early in the morning.

Everyone was happy about the government's gift, but they didn't notice the pitying look the yamen runners gave them.

"Come quickly and get your meal! The higher-ups ordered a good meal for you all today, both adults and children."

The wooden barrel contained not black steamed buns and porridge, but stewed vegetables and yellow steamed buns, with minced meat in the vegetables. Everyone was so happy that they forgot about the pain.

This meal tasted particularly delicious, and it felt even better than all the delicacies I had eaten before.

Since entering the cell, everyone felt full for the first time.

Just when everyone had eaten and drunk well and was ready to take a nap.

The neatly arranged yamen runners came in, opened the cells, and waited at the door with ropes:

"Get up, get up! Get in line."

As soon as we heard the word "queue", everyone knew that something bad was going to happen and they all stepped back.

Fourth concubine Fang looked at everyone with disdain, and was the first to go over like a chivalrous woman.

The bailiff tied her hands and waited for the next person to come.

Until everyone is connected.

They were led to a place where a crowd gathered. Over twenty men were kneeling on a platform, with signs stuck above their heads. Behind them stood the executioner, holding a large knife.

Several women who were tied up in bunches cried and rushed in. Before the yamen runners could stop them, they fell because of the ropes.

The bailiffs took them to the nearest place on the stage.

Gu Yan looked up and saw his old mother, wife, and children below, and tears of regret came to his eyes. It was as if only then did he realize that he might have harmed everyone.

The eldest son and the illegitimate son beside him were already crying. How tragic! They had just grown up and were forced to face death.

"The time has come, execution!"

The judge's lot was thrown down lightly, but it felt like a thousand-pound stone hitting everyone.

Blood splattered towards the families of all the prisoners. This was also a necessary process for watching the execution, to warn everyone that the imperial power was irreversible.

Almost immediately, Aunt Mao used her body to block the eyes of the siblings.

It’s best not to watch such bloody scenes if you can.
