Chapter 63 Implementation Plan

Wen Xi stayed at home for another ten days.

During this period, apart from occasionally teaching them some embroidery techniques, I would go up the mountain to look for edible things.

I found some pepper trees and chili peppers, but they're not ripe yet. They might have to wait until fall. Oh, and I also found some wild dates, wild grapes, and wild fruit trees. The village kids are all watching them closely, so if I want to get a piece of them, I'm going to have a hard time.

But no one cares about the hairy chestnut tree. After all, its beautiful interior is covered by a not-so-attractive skin, and most people really can't see its goodness.

Apart from these, Wen Xi tinkered with seasonings at home every day, preparing to implement her plan.

The plan was to make mutton skewers. After all, mutton was the cheapest thing in northern Xinjiang.

The essence of the lamb skewers lies in cumin and chili powder. Wen Xi had visited every pharmacy in two counties to find the cumin. He then scraped it clean.

As for the chili peppers, they had been found, but they were still growing. Wen Xi reluctantly picked some green chilies, dried them, and pounded them into a paste, in anticipation of her own grand plan.

There are so many modern quick-cooking dishes, and even selling noodles is a good option. However, not only do those require a stall, but they're also very laborious. The profit isn't great either. Furthermore, the technique isn't very demanding, and anyone can learn the basics after trying them a few times.

On the contrary, although mutton skewers are cheaper in northern Xinjiang, that is compared with other meats, but it is meat after all. Not only is it expensive because it is novel, it is also easy to use and can be run by almost one person. Others just need to thread the skewers at home, and there is no need for a bunch of women to show up.

As for the technology, there's even less need to worry! Even if they were given three years, they wouldn't be able to come up with barbecue ingredients.

"Is Sister Xi at home?..."

Fang Ya's voice came from outside the door.

"Here I come."

Wen Xi stood up, washed her hands in the washbasin, and went to open the gate.

"Ah! Why are you holding so many? Where's your brother? He doesn't even help you."

Seeing Fang Ya carrying a basket of bamboo sticks and holding a handful in her hands, Wen Xi quickly took them and complained that Fang Qiang didn't know how to care for his sister.

"It's not sinking. I wanted to send it myself. My brother passed away a long time ago. Speaking of which, it's all thanks to Sister Xi! Thank you so much. There's been a long line of people looking for my brother to make custom wardrobes lately! Oh, and the hangers are all sold out too. Yesterday, my brother even bought me a set of floral fabric, saying he wanted to make clothes!"

Fang Ya was both shy and excited as she spoke.

"Hey, what's there to thank me for? Didn't you give me so many bamboo tubes?"

"Oh, oh by the way, my brother also gave you and Aunt Xiangye a piece of cake, saying it was a thank you gift for you."

Mao and Xiangye were smoking some cured meat. Hearing Fang Ya's words, Mao looked at Xiangye in surprise. Xiangye, on the other hand, buried her head even deeper, revealing only the tips of her two red ears.

Fang Ya put down the backpack and came over, a little embarrassedly saying:

"Auntie, I don't know how to make clothes. Can you make one for me? My brother said he will pay you for the work."

Mao frowned:

"You kid, are you trying to piss off your aunt? I'm just making a dress, and I'm accepting your favor? Don't worry! Your aunt Xiangye is the best at making clothes, and I guarantee she'll make them beautifully for you."

After saying that, he glanced at Xiangye.

"Thank you, auntie, and thank you, auntie." Fang Ya replied sweetly.

Xiangye looked up and saw Mao's strange eyes. She wanted to crawl into the ground. She wanted to be a child who had made a mistake and was caught.

Mao pulled up the incense leaves and said to Wen Xi:

"The meat is almost smoked. You string it first! Mom will come out and hang it up soon. I need to discuss something with your aunt first."

Wen Xi tilted her head, noticing Xiang Ye's awkwardness, and expressed her doubts, but she didn't ask any further questions.

Fang Ya next to him said enthusiastically:

"Don't worry, Auntie. I will help Sister Xi string them together."
