"Mother, Second Aunt, what's going on? What happened?"
Chen Xinli was forced to get up.
I was mainly woken up by the noise.
For several months, I have been traveling through mountains and rivers with my family.
The tension in my heart finally relaxed after I arrived at the Bear Village last night.
Even though Chen Xinli has the soul of an adult, her body is that of a child.
Maybe it was because I had consumed too much energy, but for some reason, I couldn't fall asleep as I tossed and turned on the makeshift straw bed. I also really wanted to eat some candy.
Early in the morning, I was having a sweet dream.
Chen Xinli dreamed that she was lying on the sofa, eating delicious sachima, watching TV series, and drinking sips of sweet milk tea in between. Her life was so leisurely.
Then, there was a chirping sound.
The half-eaten sachima in the dream suddenly disappeared.
Chen Xinli was immediately furious.
I tried hard to go back to that dream, but I could never dream of it again.
The little girl immediately put on her clothes and rushed out.
Then, she saw a circle of people surrounding the courtyard a few feet away.
The women in the crowd were whispering to each other and pointing at their house.
"Ali is awake. Didn't you sleep well?" Mrs. Wu looked at the blue marks under her daughter's eyelids and felt distressed.
In fact, the people outside the hospital had changed several times in the morning.
They did not stand directly outside the yard, but stood several feet away, talking to each other all the time, as if they were very wary.
At first, Mrs. Wu thought that people were curious about their new family, so she didn't pay much attention.
But the crowds come and go.
More and more people are joining, this is already the third group.
Seeing that everyone is carrying baskets, backpacks, hoes and other things, it seems that they are going to work in the fields.
Seeing her daughter's frown and thinking about the children still sleeping in the house, Mrs. Wu immediately plucked up the courage to go and meet the villagers here.
"Sister-in-law, wait a minute, I'll come."
Zhang Fangju put down the branch in her hand, wiped her hands, smoothed the hair off her niece's face, and said to the two of them.
"Let me do it... We're new here, so we should be careful. We shouldn't make enemies, but we shouldn't let ourselves be bullied either."
As she spoke, Zhang walked towards the crowd.
"Hello, aunties and sisters, we are new here. I wonder if you have anything to do outside our yard?"
Zhang greeted him tentatively.
I didn't expect that she would be fine without talking.
As soon as he spoke, the crowd exploded.
Everyone immediately retreated to the back as if they wanted to avoid something dirty, and ignored her.
When Zhang was about to continue asking questions, the crowd dispersed inexplicably.
Shen Fuyou, who had just returned with two broken buckets of water, looked at the situation outside his yard from afar. He thought something serious had happened and rushed home.
It’s no secret that Shen Fuyou also encountered the same thing.
One morning, he wanted to ask the villagers where the well was.
As a result, after asking several households, no one opened the door.
When he walked away, those people actually opened the door and observed him secretly.
This left Shen Fuyou confused.
After walking around the village for a long time, I finally found the well on the other side of the mountain.
When he brought back the water, he found a few skinny women standing outside his yard, craning their necks to look inside.
Shen Fuyou immediately smiled at the other person and prepared to say hello.
As a result, they were scared away.
When Shen Fuyou came back from fetching water for the second time, he found that there were more people outside his courtyard. These people were either holding hoes or sickles...
I thought of my eldest brother and Old Man Wu going up the mountain to chop firewood.
Don't let anything go wrong at home.
Shen Fuyou rushed home in two or three steps.
However, this group of people seemed to suddenly scatter like birds and beasts because of Zhang's approach.
Shen Fuyou was also completely confused. He rushed back to the yard and asked the two busy women.
"Sister-in-law, what happened at home?"
"No," Mrs. Wu cleaned the bowl with water and prepared to put it on the table.
I also found that one of the legs of the table was rotten, so I had to find a stone to put under one of the legs.
After finishing his work, he added, "It's just that the people in this village are a little weird! Also, your eldest brother and Jinshan went up the mountain behind and haven't come back yet."
"It's quite strange. I was thinking of saying hello to them, but as soon as I approached them, they ran away. I don't know if they treated us like monkeys this morning," Zhang muttered as she prepared to serve the rice.
"Uncle, let's go find the village head after dinner. We have some important business to attend to today!"
Shen Xinli suggested.
She was completely awake and could see clearly what the courtyard they were in was like.
In front of the gate, there is a small path about one foot wide leading to the outside of the yard. The weeds on both sides are knee-high. On the left, there are traces of an earthen stove that was just built last night.
The rest of the area is either covered with moss or various weeds.
The wooden pillars at the door were gray and had many vertical lines after being exposed to wind and sun. Several ants and spiders were busy working on the pillars. I wondered if the wood had been eaten away.
Just as Chen Xinli was about to approach the window and try to open it to ventilate, she heard a creaking sound and the wooden window fell directly from the outside, which scared her.
The little girl leaned against the wall and suddenly had spider webs all over her face.
Ah, this...this house!
Chen Xinli was too tired to complain and could only silently chant in her heart: "Dangerous building! Dangerous building!"
