Chapter 10 Mantis Shrimp and Octopus

The villagers meant no harm, but the second and third sons were worried that their younger sister would be laughed at and lose face, so they quickly comforted her:

"Little sister, it's alright, your second brother will definitely believe in you!"

"Little sister is amazing! If it's for nourishing the body, it must be some very precious seafood!"

The third brother, unusually serious, said, "It's alright! Little sister, don't worry about what others say. Didn't Mazu teach you about seafood? How could you be wrong?"

"The fishermen are probably just afraid of their appearance, just like we were just now."

Ruan Meng nodded, not taking it to heart at all.

Based on the feedback from the fishermen, it seems that the sea cucumber market has not yet been developed. If she takes them to the city to sell now, not only will she not get a good price, but she may not even be able to sell them at all.

Rather than that, it would be better to leave it for my elder brother to nourish his body.

No sooner had the decision been made than the second brother, Ruan Yi, called out again.

"Little sister, what is this?"

A golden mantis shrimp was swimming nimbly near the second son's feet, and Ruan Yiding didn't dare to move an inch.

Ruan Meng chuckled, "Second Brother is too attractive to seafood! You be the bait, I'll do the sword!"

The elder brother and sister-in-law, who were on the shore, couldn't help but smile when they heard this.

Mantis shrimp are known as the "King of the Sea," but Ruan Meng didn't dare to pick them up with her hands. Instead, she used tongs to hold them, and the mantis shrimp writhed violently.

Ruan Meng explained, "This is called mantis shrimp, also known as prawn. It's usually green or red, with delicious meat. Its forelegs can cut through the shells of crabs and seashells, so be careful when picking it up!" (Image from the internet) Ruan Yi took a breath and only dared to approach and watch after seeing Ruan Meng throw the mantis shrimp into a wooden bucket half-filled with seawater.

Who knew!

The mantis shrimp suddenly jumped, startling Ruan Yi!

She instantly hid behind Ruan Meng and even screamed.

The villagers turned around and looked at them with smiles.

Ruan Yi was stunned for a moment, then pointed at the mantis shrimp in the bucket and complained to his older brother, "Big brother, it bullied me!"

The third brother, Ruan Zheng, said helplessly, "Second brother, can't you be a little more composed?"

Ruan Meng smiled, and if she weren't afraid that her second brother would spoil the fun, she would really like to send him ashore.

This sudden outburst scared away several seafood items.

Afterwards, Ruan Meng, along with her two older brothers, collected some crabs and shellfish, and soon filled a small bucket.

"ah!"

Song Shiwen, the eldest son of the Song family, who was standing beside him, let out a soft cry.

A soft, wet thing was seen climbing up Song Shiwen's legs. The Song family was terrified, and Song Shiwen's daughter burst into tears!

Ruan Meng walked over, grabbed the octopus's head, ripped it off, and threw it into the Song family's bucket.

Ruan Meng suggested that they put less water in the wooden bucket so that the seafood could survive longer.

The Song family also helped take care of Ruan Meng on the way to exile, and they were all very surprised to find that she had changed.

The eldest brother, Ruan Qian, spoke from the shore, "My little sister fell into the sea, and after being rescued, she seemed to have gained all her intelligence; she's incredibly clever!"

Along the way, the Song family members naturally recognized Ruan Meng's appearance. Although they were surprised, they were happy for the Ruan family. The Fan family members beside them felt the same way.

"Miss Ruan, what is this?"

Song Shiwen asked for advice.

Ruan Meng smiled faintly, "Brother Song, just call me Ruan Meng! Thank you for taking care of me on the way!"

"This is called an octopus. It has a soft body and delicious meat, making it a very tasty seafood." (Image from the internet) "The plump part is its head, and the long part is its legs. There are eight of them in total. It can be stewed or braised."

After saying that, Ruan Meng's saliva began to flow. Remembering that her home was bare, she realized it was necessary to prepare some seasonings.

Otherwise, even the most delicious seafood will only taste fishy and be a waste if boiled in plain water.

Upon hearing this, the Song family looked at Ruan Meng with admiration, overjoyed at the prospect of reaping new seafood.

Then, Nguyen Duc's startled cry successfully scared away a moray eel, several bread crabs, and several mantis shrimps...

Unable to bear it any longer, Ruan Meng asked Ruan Yi to go back first, claiming that he was hungry, and find some thin stone slabs and branches to cook the seafood.

Ruan Meng reminded everyone to scald some of the food and send it to Granny Liu after it was cooked.

Ruan Yi felt a heavy responsibility on his shoulders and returned home in high spirits.

Ruan Zhengzhi stood up, and he, along with his elder brother and sister-in-law, couldn't help but chuckle.

They collected some more seashells, and the siblings headed back ahead of time. Ruan Meng called out to her third brother and prepared to go up the mountain.

Before going up the mountain, Ruan Meng took her elder brother's pulse. After asking about his symptoms, her brows furrowed more and more.

My older brother suffers from heart deficiency, blood stasis, qi stagnation, and spleen and kidney yang deficiency. He needs to recuperate slowly, but he can no longer go beachcombing or go into the water.

After hearing Ruan Meng's explanation, the elder brother felt regret, but he had even more confidence in Ruan Meng's medical skills!

The eldest sister-in-law was overjoyed, "What my younger sister said is exactly the same as what the doctor we hired in the past said!"

"With your little sister around, your older brother's health will definitely get better and better!"

Ruan Meng nodded firmly, waited for her third brother, borrowed two baskets from Granny Liu, and headed up the mountain.

This departure brought me great joy.
