Xiao Kai quickly lifted the curtain and jumped down from the carriage behind.
Instead of heading straight for the stone house, he respectfully walked to the carriage, personally lifted the curtain, and waited for the people inside to get off.
Ruan Meng and her sister-in-law went to greet him and saw a tall figure walking gracefully towards them.
With a face as white as jade and an exceptionally outstanding appearance, her clothes were embroidered with exquisite patterns, indicating her noble status.
As soon as he landed, he lifted his foot to look at the sole of his shoe, his brow furrowed slightly, and his eyes glanced downwards, looking unapproachable.
The spacious carriage was parked not far away, but Liu Jie drove it to the front of the stone house. Liu Jie smiled and cracked the whip at Ruan Meng and her sister-in-law, without getting out of the carriage.
Xiao Kai respectfully accompanied the young man to Ruan Meng and her sister-in-law, and introduced them:
"Miss Meng, sister-in-law, this is our master's cousin, young master Sun Chengen, the young master's cousin."
Ruan Meng and her sister-in-law nodded as Xiao Kai politely introduced them. Xiao Kai continued:
“The Sun family has businesses on the island and their business is very large on the other side of the strait. When I returned to the restaurant in the afternoon and reported to the young master and Manager Yu, the young master happened to be there as well. Hearing that the seafood with sauce was created by the young lady, he came along with her.”
Ruan Meng gleaned several meanings from Xiao Kai's explanation.
The Sun and He families interact regularly; otherwise, even though their businesses are mostly on the other side of the strait, they wouldn't be appearing on the island, at the He family restaurant, or being brought along.
Although the Sun family has businesses in the South Island, it is not as extensive as the He family's, and their business layout is mainly on the other side of the strait.
The fact that the small-script calligrapher used such careful wording to describe a large business is enough to prove his strength.
If the other party is interested in "Seafood in Broth," or any other dishes made by Ruan Meng, Xiao Kai can certainly bring them back...
His personal visit indicated his interest in the business in the South Island and Ruan Meng, but it did not imply that he would definitely participate. Therefore, Xiao Kai simply said, "I came along."
Whether the deal goes through depends on the Ruan family themselves.
Ruan Meng understood and gestured an invitation to Young Master Sun and Xiao Kai.
Young Master Sun looked around at his surroundings, his disdain clearly written on his face.
The eldest sister-in-law looked at Ruan Meng with some concern.
Ruan An gave him a reassuring look, didn't take it to heart, and went back.
Young Master Sun naturally refused to go inside. Ruan Meng turned around and asked Xiao Kai with a smile:
"Haven't had dinner yet?"
A slight smile finally appeared on Xiao Kai's usually stern face.
Judging from his appearance, he was quite intimidated by this young master; he was so reserved!
Ruan Meng suddenly curved her lips into a faint smile and looked at Sun Chengen, who was looking at her with disgust.
Sun Chengen frowned, revealing a wary expression.
Her cousin told her some things, saying she was clever and shrewd. Manager Yu praised her highly. Such a smart woman naturally made Sun Chengen wary!
"Xiao Kai, should we serve it to you, or should we set up a table outside?"
Ruan Meng looked behind Xiao Kai and gestured to him.
Xiao Kai relaxed and said with a smile, "I'll do it myself. Anyway, I don't consider myself an outsider."
"Young lady, do you have any leftovers? Did the villagers eat them all?"
“There are four of us: besides Young Master Cousin, Uncle Liu, and Young Master Cousin’s servant, A Yuan.”
There certainly wouldn't be enough millet rice, so Ruan Meng asked Xiao Kai to ask the other three whether they wanted porridge or noodles.
With Sun Chengen being such a picky person, Ruan Meng reminded him to have Xiao Kai ask Sun Chengen and his servant about their tastes, such as whether they ate spicy food, onions, and garlic.
Xiao Kai was silently grateful and set aside the only small table in the house, along with four stools.
After wiping the surface clean with his sleeve and patting it repeatedly, Sun Chengen's servant, A Yuan, wiped and checked it again before slowly sitting down and clearing his throat.
Xiao Kai entered the house and asked Ruan Meng for some spring water. His sister-in-law poured him some mint water, and just as Xiao Kai took it out, he noticed that Ruan Meng had brought out two more cups.
One cup for Liu Jie, one cup for Xiao Kai.
Sun Chengen looked up and glanced at Ruan Meng expressionlessly.
Ruan Meng looked at the four stools. Only the one Sun Chengen was sitting on was around the table. The other three were placed behind Sun Chengen.
Ruan Meng silently placed the three stools in the other three directions on the table.
Sun Chengen put down the quilt, his voice full of displeasure, clearly dissatisfied with Ruan Meng's behavior.
"This young master doesn't like eating at the same table with others!"
"Yeah?"
Ruan Meng chuckled and moved a stool out of the room, replacing the small table in front of Sun Chengen.
He placed the table and three other stools to the side, indicating to the remaining three people:
"Come and sit down!"
Turning to Sun Chengen, he explained, "Sorry, there's only one table. You'll have to make do with this one by yourself!"
