Chapter 21 Oysters, Sea Urchins, and Cat's Eye Snails

The saying "A skilled craftsman must first have the right tools" perfectly describes Ruan Meng's current situation.

Before dawn, I went to the beach with the villagers.

Although the eldest brother was strictly forbidden by Ruan Meng to go into the water, he and his sister-in-law still watched them from the shore.

When Ruan Yi screamed again, Ruan Meng straightened up, trying to hold back, but she couldn't!

"Second Brother, I'm a little hungry. Could you come ashore and help me cook some porridge?"

"Oh? I'll ask my sister-in-law to help cook. My second brother wants to help you; he's worried about leaving just the two of you alone."

Ruan Meng: I feel even more uneasy when you're around.

Seafood: With you here, we can all feel at ease...

Watching the small fish swim leisurely, Ruan Meng felt as if her heart was being torn apart.

They could all have gone into her bucket!

Originally, they could all have been turned into a delicious fish soup!

Ruan Zheng understood, straightened up and suggested, "Second Brother, can I discuss something with you?"

"Third brother, what do you say?"

"My ear has been hurting lately, can you please stop yelling? It's making me uncomfortable!"

You scared my crabs away, and that made me even angrier!

Ruan Yi readily agreed, "Okay! I'll try my best!"

Suddenly, Ruan Meng's eyes lit up when she saw oysters washed out of the mud.

Finally, we found oysters! (Image from the internet) Her oyster sauce is coming!

Looking at the ugly "big thing" that Ruan Meng picked up, Ruan Yi asked, "Little sister, what is this?"

After Ruan Meng explained, she asked her second and third brothers to search on the rocks.

Thanks to the convenience of the gloves, the picking speed was much faster than yesterday, and the two buckets were quickly filled.

As Ruan Meng was preparing to pour the oysters back into the bucket, villagers nearby saw this and started mocking her again.

"You're still picking up these sea monsters? We don't eat them!"

"Exactly! You all picked up this just now? That's a complete waste of time!"

"We don't eat this stuff, so you should be careful, or you might get a stomachache!"

......

Ruan Meng recalled seeing an introduction in her previous life, where oysters were called "sea monsters" by many islanders because of their ugly shells, and they dared not eat them.

Understanding dawned on her, and Ruan Meng looked up and smiled, "Really? Thank you!"

Thank you for your kindness, all the oysters are mine!

The villagers shook their heads and laughed when they saw that they hadn't thrown them away.

They noticed the gloves of the Ruan siblings and, filled with curiosity, asked them how they made them.

Ruan Meng proudly pointed to her second brother, "My second brother made this!"

Although the fishermen didn't say anything, their mocking expressions seemed to suggest they found the menacing.

Ruan Meng didn't take it to heart; her two older brothers had already noticed the benefits of the gloves.

Ruan Zheng ran back to the stone house, carried out two large basins, and poured all the oysters from Ruan Meng's and his own buckets into them.

"ah!"

Ruan Meng was startled again by her second brother's shout.

"Little sister, what is this?!"

Ruan Meng took a deep breath, clutched her chest, and decided that she must find something else for her second brother to do as soon as possible. He had become the biggest obstacle on her way to the beach!

Ruan Meng approached, her eyes widening. A sea urchin! (Image from the internet) Ruan Yi, still looking frightened, pointed to the spiky sea urchin and asked Ruan Meng what it was.

"This is called sea urchin, it's delicious!"

It's a pity there were no eggs; otherwise, I can't even imagine how delicious steamed sea urchin with eggs would be!

Ruan Yi was still skeptical and dared not approach. Even though he was wearing gloves, Ruan Meng did not dare to grab it directly with his hands. Instead, he used a shovel to dig it into the bucket.

At this moment, Ruan Meng missed the "pliers" for beachcombing so much that she felt it was necessary to make them!

The third brother, Ruan Zheng, was engrossed in his work. When the second brother screamed, Ruan Zheng had already collected half a bucket of food, including two sea cucumbers, one octopus, and two sea urchins.

Ruan Meng bent down to look, then looked at her second brother.

Let's take a look at Third Brother's wooden bucket, and then at Second Brother.

Feeling uncomfortable under her gaze, Ruan Yi asked guiltily, "Sister, what's wrong?"

Ruan Meng sighed.

"Little sister, what is this?"

Ruan Meng discovered that although her third brother was impulsive, he was indeed smart. He would only pick up seafood that Ruan Meng had introduced, and would never pick up seafood that he was not familiar with.

For now, he'll ask Ruan Meng for advice regarding the unfamiliar conch shell in his hand.

Ruan Meng picked it up and explained, "This is called a cat's eye snail, and it's edible." (Image from the internet) Although it has a tough shell and thick flesh, and doesn't taste good, it's not time to be picky since it's just been exiled to the island.

Ruan Meng reminded him, "Third Brother, there are many snails in the sea. Many are edible, but some are very dangerous."

"From now on, when I'm not around, please don't cook snails. It's best to wait until I confirm before you eat them."

Ruan Zheng nodded and put the cat's eye snails into the bucket. Ruan Meng turned around and almost fainted at just one glance.
