Chapter 403 Building the School

Ruan Meng did not deny it.

Behind Sun Chengen, A Yuan kept his eyes down, seemingly oblivious to what was happening, and loudly went inside first.

"Girl, what delicious treats have you brought this time?"

Ruan Meng smiled, "I was originally going up the mountain, but I got delayed. What do you want to eat? How about we go beachcombing together later? I'll cook for you."

A Yuan looked at the young master behind him. Sun Chengen didn't say anything, which was considered tacit approval.

"Sister, may I watch from the side?"

Sun Mu'en said with anticipation, because of Du Xiaocan's experience, Sun Chengen has been taking extra precautions these past two days. Except for occasionally going outside for some fresh air, Sun Mu'en spends most of her time in the room.

Ruan Meng readily agreed, only asking that she sit in the carriage as before, sheltered from the wind.

After a while, Sun Chengen spoke up, "My cousin asked me to tell you that he has agreed to the conditions you proposed. He's currently looking for a shop and wants you to come over to discuss when we can start."

Ruan Meng nodded, and then heard Sun Chengen say:

"The blueprints will be delivered tonight. One shop will sell braised food, one will sell fish noodles, and one will sell fish dumplings. We can discuss the rest later."

“We’ll arrange the staff in the store; you’ll be in charge of the finished products.”

Ruan Meng agreed, and then she saw Sun Mu'en standing to the side, her eyes sparkling, looking at all the food she loved!

Ruan Mengxiao said, "That way, you can eat it whenever you want, every day!"

Sun Mu'en hugged Sun Cheng'en's arm and shook it affectionately, "Brother is the best!"

Sun Chengen's gaze inexplicably drifted towards the doorway; Ruan Meng had already left.

-

When Ruan Meng returned, the village chief had already left.

Just as Ruan Meng had expected, Ruan Qian readily agreed. Ruan Qian had already communicated with the Song and Fan families and sought their consent regarding the requisition of the two houses.

The house has the same structure as the Ruan Family Medical Clinic, with a rest room in the back and a courtyard, making it convenient to add a kitchen.

The Song and Fan families already had children of their own. Previously, they had been busy teaching their children to read, but it was only by oral instruction and was not regular. Now that they can learn systematically, it frees up the adults, and the children have playmates. Naturally, everyone is happy.

The two families were overjoyed and cleaned the house until it was spotless.

Ruan Qian and Ruan Meng discussed asking the Sun family's craftsmen for help in making some desks and chairs.

The craftsmen went up the mountain, and the village chief had the same idea. He had originally asked his two sons to finish the work, but now they could work together.

Feng Yun and Feng Xi felled trees, and the craftsmen began to build.

Ruan Meng took out money and asked her second and third brothers to go to town to buy paper and pens. Her eldest brother discussed with the village chief about naming the school. The village chief conceded and let her eldest brother decide.

After thinking it over, the eldest brother discussed it with the Song and Fan families and finally decided to name it "Hongzhi Academy".

The second son brought paper and pen, and the eldest brother wrote the inscription himself, handing it to the Sun family craftsmen to make a plaque to be hung in the school later.

The craftsmen were engrossed in their work when Master Huang, the leader, looked up at Ruan Meng, seemingly wanting to say something but then hesitated.

They aren't afraid of hard work, but this is treating them like workhorses. Making dozens of sets of desks and chairs a day, plus plaques, means they can't be careless; it all takes time...

Ruan Meng took the initiative to speak, "Thank you all for your hard work! So, I've arranged for my second and third brothers to go to the city, while I'll stay home to cook delicious food for you all and give you a boost!"

"I'll cook lunch and dinner myself, okay?"

Master Huang's expression softened, and all the other masters looked up expectantly.

Ruan Meng smiled, "I'll even make midnight snacks tonight!"

The masters almost sparked when they sawed.

Ruan Meng could see that her elder brother was visibly excited.

After landing on the South Island, everything was for survival and responsibility, but the eldest brother genuinely loved teaching and nurturing future generations, and his face seemed to be on fire.

Ruan Meng was also happy. Although the timing was ahead of schedule and a bit rushed, it was still a good thing.

The village chief and his daughters-in-law went door-to-door to inform the villagers about the school opening and to remind them that they could send their underage children to the school.

The villagers were overjoyed. To their surprise, when the children heard that they were going to school, they threw tantrums and refused to go.

The village chief and his wives were both amused and exasperated when they saw this.

The main reason why children don't want to go to school is that they don't want to be restricted and they are lazy and don't want to work hard.

Their grandfathers and fathers were illiterate their whole lives, yet they lived well. Why should they suffer the hardships that they never experienced?

Ruan Meng heard this and asked the village chief and the two sisters-in-law of the Feng family to remind the villagers to bring their children over that evening so they could try some good food.

After Ruan Meng had exploited all the craftsmen in the Sun family, it was finally A Yuan's turn.

"All the children in the village will be coming tonight, so we'll have to rely on A-Yuan for the ingredients!"

The older sister-in-law felt that putting pressure on A-Yuan was a bit excessive.

To everyone's surprise, A Yuan patted his chest confidently and said, "No problem! They'll regret it!"
